For'd Progress

The biggest leap forward in (ha ha name puns) "Forward Progress" was composition, composition, composition. While there was still a fair amount of image borrowing in my most favorite works here, the overall polish and structure of the works improved enormously. Things began to have an organized center intead of a ramshackle put together. They were planned and carried out with much more proficiency and careful thinking.

A lot of images were fully original here and as time kept going on, more and more original works kept coming in. This is one of my most favorite periods of all and some of the neatest works came from here. The JLG BIcon is still in use 3 years later today and there are also many classic relics that are too much fun to just let fall.

As always, there's one work that came from doodlings in English, because really, what else do you do in English? In For'd Progress this was the 1st Aircav VC. It came straight from conceptual drawings in my books and turned out to be a pretty good unit patch. Photoshop is great for making crazy looking arrows.

So take my flag and add my initials. Together, you get this tastefully balanced buddy icon that I still use. I'd say more but, really, I think you all get it.

This was another result of sketching during boring classes. This one came straight from English class where I fused together arrows and lightning to create this beacon of "speed." It was meant to be a logo for an Air Calvaly unit in an online battle game. It was used for a good few months as our primary logo. I am still satisified with the way it looks today, especially the arrow's motion lines.

This was one of two entries for a logo contest that never happened. It was high-popularity time for the swoosh in America and I fell victim. The composition is nice but the text and swoosh just follow my same old pattern of gradients and stroked-text.

Here's part II of the logo contest submissions. Gradients and stroked-text, again. There's a reason this was made in 2004.

I told you there would be more refinement to the arrow, right? Most likely you haven't read the other explanation but here is Part II to the Jonair arrow. The jaggies were cleaned up, the gradient was dropped down, and I finally started to get the whole design thing together. the arrows blend well creating the motion effect, and there are no jaggies to make babies cry. All in all a pretty good logo.

This is just a scaled version of the above logo, sans the text. Repositioned for a square, it does it's job well.

Ching! I still love this nod of the hat to medieval times. It's the only BlackKnight logo that sort of actually ties to where a Black Knight originated from. Unfortunately, it didn't have much to do with the Vietnam game I was playing so it's head was chopped off with the two golden swords.

This is the sequal to the above signature. Badass vehicles meet American flags and blue color blends. I love the way this signature turned out as it was probably the first time I took outside images, cut them out, and actually put them into a design well. The contrast is good and the text matches the overall mood of the sig. Definitely a favorite.

This was the last BlackKnight signature for Vietnam Combat. This design went backwards into the days of raised text and color overlays. At least there aren't any clouds, though. That's probably the only good thing to say about this one.

Who doesn't love monocrhomatic arrows and letters? I wanted a webpage to showcase my designs (sort of like, wait, exactly, like this one) and this was the splash logo. The A and the arrow actually made a pretty good shape logo. It was simple, not overstated, and crisp. While it's fallen into defunct land, it was a continuation of the solid color, flat designs I've come to love.
