Swami Mantrananda
Once upon a time I was born in 1946 and grew up
in Pueblo, Colorado, I was a Sagittarius. I didn’t remember my past
lives or for that matter did anyone in the neighborhood ever mention
such a thing. I wondered as a kid where my "big me" friends were
that were good. Nobody seemed to be "a me." I tried to channel Swami
Muktananda because I thought he was a "big me friend" in India and
maybe I would met him some day. Sometimes he told me secrets when I
was a kid like that. I don’t remember much of it now.
Sometimes we went to the mountains to go fishing
and the nights were always cold. Once I got to ride a horse in Lake
City and it was named Dynamite. I got on the horse and headed
down the trail, but he would not go anywhere but in a circle, right
back to the barn. I guess that is what they give to eight year old
kids when they rent a horse. To this day some people psychic me only
to find out that I road a horse named Dynamite. This proves
to me the futility of trying to psychic someone to find out
something about them. You will find out "something," but who knows
what that will be.
I decided to study Yoga and learn meditation when
I was about 23 and that is not something that I had planned on
doing. If I had planned it out more, spirituality would not have
felt like such a drastic change in my life. But it was very drastic
to me, so it took me time to reorganize my life. Almost nothing was
the same after that. I guess that I rode a horse named Dynamite
after all, and the doctrines of Yoga and Hinduism were enough to get
me going in some different direction, which is to get back to the
Self. My degree in college didn’t say much about meditation, so I
had to begin to learn more again and again.
The learning process is like time in, I’m a
Yogi, instead of a little went a long way. A lot was learned and
then I forgot to throw the weeds out of the garden. I guess that is
what can happen in the Spiritual disciplines. We plant good things
but still have to throw something out. The wind will blow it in
anyway.
I met various Gurus, Goswami Kriyananda, Shelly,
Adano Ley (Swami Nitty Gritty), and Chogyam Trungpa the Tibetan
Buddhist. Later I spent time with Swami Muktananda and his group of
people. These were all learning experiences that made the garden
grow. That time has all passed, and maybe I was at one time a
beginner Yogi that grew up a little and I came to understand many of
the teachings of Yoga and Hinduism that I thought were hard to
understand in the beginning. Thus I have some faith that the pathway
works.
There still might be time for our favorite things
in life and doing meditation as well, otherwise no one would attain
any of these mysterious doctrines and states of consciousness. Some
people are even born with some of these states of consciousness.
We all have time to follow God if we could find
him. Well, it was God that put us here and maybe we have found what
God wanted us to find, the whole world. Thus we can enter meditation
at times and see the Self. This is also what we are supposed to do.

Have you ever tried to
"channel" someone that was alive? How did you go about
it? Maybe some people are able to do this.
Perhaps these people have a séance with others at times.
Question: Have
you ever tried to "channel" someone that was alive?
How did you go about it?
