Episode 21
Beverley enters
the sick bay at 19h30 and immediately notices that Reb seems jumpy and
edgy when she comes in
Beverley: "Is everything all right Kean."
Reb: "Yeah, why would'nt it be?, did you remember to bring my sleeping
pill."
Beverley: "You just seemed a bit nervous and jumpy when I came in,
that's all, and yes, here's the sleeping tablet."
Reb: "Thanks." she takes the sleeping tablet and swollows it with a
glass of water and lies back down on the pillows
Beverley: "Someone will be along to check on you later."
Reb: "Not a certain screw, I hope."
Beverley: "Now Kean, I can't allow you to speak about fellow
officers
like that, I could have you on an insolence charge you know."
Reb: "Come on, I'm not blind, I can tell you don't like her anymore
than the rest of us in here."
Beverley: "How much I like or dislike onother officer is not the issue
Reb, the point is there is a certain professionalism that needs to be
maintained."
Reb: "Yeah right, like when push comes to shove, you screws will all
stick together and back on another up, right."
Beverley trying to appear stern: 'That will do Kean, another word and
you'll be on an insolence charge."
Reb: "Yeah , all right, I'm sorry."
Beverley: "Right then, as I said just now, someone will check on you
later, and you don't have to worry about Miss Leach coming along
tonight, she's only due back on Monday
Reb: "I've got to make sure I'm out of here by then."
Beverley: "Unless you get some rest, you most certainly will
still be here on Monday."
Reb: "Thanks Miss Carter, I think I'm starting to get sleepy now."
Beverley: "Thats good, try to relax and get a good nights sleep,
Officer Mason should be around later to check on you, Goodnight."
Reb: "Night, .....once Beverley has left, "I knew you hated that fat
ugly dyke bitch screw almost as much as I do."...she falls asleep

Margo has just walked into one of the cells
Margo: "I've got the stuff, have you got the dough."
Inmate: "Yeah, how much."
Margo: "Grass $5, coke $10."
Inmate: "Bloody rip off."
Margo: "Listen if you don't want it just say so, there's plenty of
others interested if you don't want it."
Inmate: "I'm sorry Margo, it's just that it cost a lot less the last
time."
Margo: "Listen Cheryl, I'm the one taking all the risks here, it's my
neck that gets the chop if I get caught sneaking the stuff in here."
Cheryl: "Yeah, yeah alright", she takes out $15, "I'll have a bag of
coke and a bag of grass (marijuana)."*
Margo: "Right, I'll bring the stuff in 10 minutes time." she leaves
Cheryl's cell, she then takes the money out of her pocket,
takes a
few notes from the wad of cash goes to her cell and hides it in a
powder container, she then heads to Kathy's cell, Kathy is lying on the
bed looking at the ceiling
Kathy: "Well, did you manage to sell all the stuff."
Margo: "Yeah, I've just sold the last of it right now."
Kathy: "Hand over the dough then." Margo gives her the money, Kathy
counts it then says, "Thats not all of it, where's the rest of it
Gaffney."
Margo: "Whaddaya mean the rest of it, that's all of it, honest."
Kathy jumps off the bed and grabs Margo: "Don't play me for a fool
Gaffney, I saw you take some of the money and hide it in your cell."
Margo: "Ok, Ok, I only took 10 bucks."
Kathy gives Margo a slap across the face: "Only $10, you thieving mole,
more like $20+, now go get the rest of it before I really beat the crap
outta you."
Margo goes out the cell muttering once outside: "One day I'd like an
opportunity to really thump you, you bitch."
Janie and Jenny overhear Margo and give one another a smile
............................................................
Janie: "Maybe we can try get Margo on side, once Marie comes out of the
pound, we can all come up with some way to get even with Bates and
Kean."
Margo comes out of her cell with the rest of the money
Janie: "We need to talk, Margo."
Margo: "Yeah, what about."
Janie: "About fixing Bates and Kean for good, you know it's because of
them that Marie's in the pound."
Margo: "What makes you think I want anything to do with helping
Winter."
Janie: "You know Marie, it's not her fault that time you got
caught, apart from that one time, Marie has always done the right
thing by you."
Margo: "Look I've gotta go, lets talk about this later."
Janie: "No worries, we've got lots of time, you know where to find us."
Margo goes back to Kathy's cell takes out the money and gives it to
Kathy
Kathy: "Now Gaffney, that's much better, honesty is always the best
policy, don't you agree."
Margo: "Huh?."
Kathy: "So how much of the cut do you think you deserve to get for
trying to have you hand in the cookie jar."
Margo says nothing
Kathy: "By rights you should get nothing, but seeing I'm in a generous
mood tonight, Ill give you 10% instead of the nothing you
deserve." she takes a couple of notes and gives it to Margo, "Now rack
off and tell
them they can collect their stuff, and try not to
get
caught."
Margo: "Come on Kathy, we agreed on 25%, I'm the one taking all the
risks you know."
Kathy: "That was before you tried to screw me over, now beat it before
I change my mind and you get nothing."
Margo leaves Kathy's cell, just then Susan comes in
Susan: "What's wrong with Margo, she sure seemed mad about something."
Kathy: "She thought she make a fast buck at our expense, but I cottoned
on to her little plan and made her cough up."
Susan: "What did she do.?"
Kathy: "She was selling the stuff at more than the going rate, she was
supposed to sell the coke for $8 instead of $10 and selling the grass
for $5 instead of $3, making $4 bucks profit on the side and then
expecting to get a 25% cut on top of it."
Susan: "She's got a bloody nerve, how did you find out about it."
Kathy: "One of the women came charging in here and bitched about how
the price skyrocketed from when Winter was bringing the stuff in,
apparently Marie was selling it for just over half of what Margo asked,
I had to make up some half baked story about the supplier charging more
for the delivery and the next lot would'nt be as much she seemed to
accept it, so no real damage has been done, were still in business."
Just then Dot walks into the cell: "Now then are you 2 almost ready for
bed, it'll be lock up in 5 minutes."
Susan: "Oh hell, we'd better get into our pyjamas."

Meanwhile Margo has just finished handing out the stuff to the women
who bought it as the last one leaves the cell, Janie and Jenny come in
Janie: "Given anymore thought to what we discussed earlier, Margo?"
Margo: "I've thought about nothing but that since I last saw you."
Janie: "Did Bates give a better cut of the takings
than Marie ever gave you."
Margo: "The lousy bitch screwed me over, she only gave me 10%
when I
should have got at least 25%, I mean after all I was the one
running
around taking the risks, her and that bitch Kean have made sure that
there's nothing to implicate themselves if anyone of them get caught."
Janie: "Margo, how would you like to help us bring both Bates
and
Kean down for good, I mean Marie has always done the right thing by you
and given you what you've always agreed on, you must admit Marie does
look out for those that get on side with her."
Margo: "Yeah I was better off with Marie, I see that now, If I decide
to back you and Marie, how are we gonna Kean and Bates, Janie, they've
already outsmarted
us all a few times?"
Janie: "I've got a plan, but I'll have to tell you about it tomorrow
sometime, it's lockup just now."
Just then Jennifer Mason and Beverley Carter arrive
Jennifer: "Why aren't you in you cells and in your pyjamas, lockup is
in 2 minutes."
Margo: "Sorry Miss Mason, was just telling Turner something."
Beverley: "Well you can continue your conversation tommorrow, now get
cracking at once."
Margo, Janie and Jenny all go to their cells

In Kathy, Dot and Susan cell are in their pajamas and in bed
Jennifer comes in to lockup :"Goodnight ladies"
Kathy: "Goodnight.", Dot and Susan also say goodnight
Jennifer closes the cell door and locks it

In the staffroom, Beverley and Jennifer are having a 30 minute coffee
break before resuming the next round
Jennifer: "I hope we have a quiet night tonight, I'm still suffering
from that double shift and I'm still tired even although I went
straight to bed when I got home this morning and only woke up an hour
before I was due back."
Beverley: "Lets hope so too, although I'm due to go off after the next
round anyway, Olivia White should be here ready to go on duty with by
the time we finish the next patrol."
Jennifer: "I think we should check in on Kean first as she went to
sleep quite some time before the others, besides she's alone in sick
bay."
Beverley: "Hopefully she'll be fast asleep, you know when I went to
give her that sleeping pill she was all edgy and agitated, and seemed
petrified in case Cynthia Leach would come to see here while she was
there."
Jennifer: "I think she may have a reason to be anxious about Cynthia,
last night when I told Cynthia I was'nt going to stand by and take her
vile tactics anymore, she threatened me, I have a gut feeling that
Leach doesn't make idle threats, and she could be gunning for me, I
also heard her threatening Kean as well with something like "teaching
her manners and respect and the correct way to address and officer." as
I came back after taking Bates back to her cell well after 03h00 , it
was the way in which Cynthia said it to Kean that I find particularly
disturbing, I just don't know what to do Bev, I don't want to appear
to want to take the word of an inmate over an officer, but the fact
remains Leach was wrong with the punishments she gave out, and
especially the length of time it went on for, and very wrong with the
way she intimidated them all, especially Kean"
Beverley: "That goes a long way to explaining why Kean was so nervous
in case Cynthia would be on duty tonight, Kean was trying to ascertain
whether I liked Cynthia or not, the point isn't whether I do
or don't, but as
professionals we have to act as professionals, I think may know my
personal feelings towards Cynthia, without me having to admit to them."
Jennifer:"Lets just say this place would be much more pleasant to be
at, were she never to come back."
Beverley: "I could'nt agree more, anyway coffee break is almost over,
we better get on patrol."
They get up from the table, put their cups in the sink and go down the
hallway

In the sickbay, Reb Kean is fast asleep....
In Kathy, Susan and Dots cell all are asleep...the scene changes from
the present to..

At Phil Bates'
house, Phil his wife Maggie, their 2 kids Desiree and
Jack and Kathy and David are all sitting down, they are all wearing
their best clothes
Phil to David
and Kathy: "Now you 2 had better be on your best
behaviour tonight, It's very important that you create a good
impression and not embarrass me when the boss and his wife comes to
dinner."
David: "But were
always on our best hehaviour, and we've never embarrassed you?"
Phil: "Don't
answer me back or you'll get the hiding of your life, as
for not being an embarrasment to me, what about when you and your
friends had that fight at school with Jack and his friends, and the
principal of the school calling me in, and don't tell me that it's Jack
and his friends fault."
David does'nt
say anything
Phil: "So who's
fault was it, then.", David still says nothing, Kathy
looks scared, Phil starts unbuckling his belt and moves towards David:
"I said, who's fault was it."
David: "It was
my fault."
Phil: "Good, now
you've admitted it." he starts putting his belt back
on again, they all sit in silence for 5 minutes, then the doorbell
rings, "Go answer the door." to Kathy, Kathy gets up and answers the
door, there is a man in his early 50's and woman in her late 30's
standing outside
Kathy: "Please
come in, my name is Kathy, my uncle Phil and aunt Maggie are waiting
for you."
Man with a nice
friendly smile: "Pleased to meet you Kathy, I'm Mr Forbes."
Mrs Forbes: "You
are a very pretty girl, Kathy, I'm Mrs Forbes."
Kathy with
a nervous smile: "Thank you, Mrs Forbes, Please come through to the
lounge." they
follow Kathy to the lounge, there Phil introduces everyone around, once
finished
Phil to Mr and
Mrs Forbes: "Can we get you something to drink?"
Mrs Forbes: "I'd
love a cup of tea, if possible."
Mr Forbes: "I'd
like one as well, please."
Maggie: "Right,
I'll go put the kettle on, Kathy would you come and give me hand,
please."
Kathy gets up
and goes with Maggie into the kitchen, once in the kitchen
Maggie to Kathy:
"And try not to be clumsy and spill anything when you take it through."
Kathy does'nt
say anything and makes her way through to the lounge with all the
refreshments on one tray

Back in the
lounge, the adults are drinking tea, the kids cold drink,
after a bit of casual conversation, John Forbes turns to the kids
John: "And what
would you all like to be when you grow up?"
Jack: "I'd like
to be a graphics designer."
Phil beaming:
"Yes, our Jack is very good at designing things from his imagination."
Desiree: "I'd
like to be a lawyer."
Evelyn Forbes:
"That's nice dear, it's great that so many women are wanting to become
lawyers these days."
John to David:
"And what would you like to be when you grow up, David."
David: "I'd
really like to become a civil engineer when I grow up, Mr Forbes." as
he finishes Phil Bates' snorts and bursts out laughing
Phil when
finished laughing: "Civil engineer, you have to really be brainy to
become a civil engineer." (Desiree and Jack laugh)
David looking
downcast and embarrassed: "I guess I'll just become a cop when I grow
up, so I can lock up the bad guys."
Evelyn looking
distressed and embarrassed for David and trying not to show it says to
Kathy: "And what would you like to become when you grow up, Kathy?"
Kathy: "All I
want to be is happy, maybe meet a nice man and settle down with a
couple of kids."
John (before
Phil can open his mouth): "Now that sounds like a nice thing to want to
be when you grow up, Kathy."

A couple of
hours later, it's clear that John and Evelyn Forbes are
much more impressed with Kathy and David than with Phil's own
kids Desiree and Jack
As the evening
is coming to a close
Evelyn to David
and Kathy: "You know Mr Forbes and I live in a nice big
house with a lovely big garden and swimming pool, how would you like to
be able to come and visit us now and again."
Kathy with
excitement: "That would be so nice, can we please uncle Phil."
David: "Oh
please, uncle Phil."
John: "Of
course, Desiree and Jack would be welcome to come and visit as well, if
they wanted to."
Phil to David
and Kathy with a masked grin on his face: "I'll have to think about it."
John: "How about
you all come to our place next saturday, at 15h00 for a barbeque and
swim just to see what it like
Jack: "That
sounds cool, how about it, Dad."
Phil after
thinking: "Yeah why not, that sounds great."
Evelyn: "It's
settled then."
John getting up:
"Well I'd like to thank you all for a great evening, Phil I'll see you
at the office Monday."
Evelyn: "It's
been a pleasure to meet you all, Maggie the dinner was lovely, thanks
so much."
They all go
outside and wait till the Forbes get in their car they wave, once the
car is out of site
Phil (his
horrible grin gone) to David and Kathy: "Get inside and get the mess
cleaned up, now"
Both Kathy and
David rush inside to clean the dishes

Evelyn and John
Forbes have just got home, Evelyn has been quiet the whole time
John: "What's
wrong my love, when you get this quiet something's really troubling
you."
Evelyn: "John, I
can't put my finger on it, but I have the most
horrible gut instinct that David and Kathy are abused and neglected
children."
John: "Evie,
whatever makes you think that, Ok, it's clear to anyone that Phil
and Maggie think their own kids are the beesknees compared to Kathy
and David or any other kid for that matter, but what makes you think
they're being abused."
Evelyn: "Darling
I love you, you know I do, but you're not the most
intuitive person I've ever known, I saw the hurt and rejection in
David's eyes when Phil made fun of him wanting to become a
civil engineer, and his cousins laughed with Phil, I also know that
Kathy said what she said just so they would'nt laugh at her as well
...........................................................
Kathy wakes up in a cold sweat just as the bell goes off for them to
all get up for the morning showers
Dot: "Are you allright love?"
Kathy: "Yeah, it was just a dream, that's all."
Susan gets up just as Jennifer comes and unlocks the cells
Jennifer: "Right, time to go to the showers."
In the corridor Margo is walking with Janie and Jenny
Margo: "I tell you, I've thought about it long and hard and I've
decided to definately back you up on this Janie, I'd
like to see both those bitches pay,
especially Bates."
Janie: "That's great Margo, listen we'll talk more during exercise
period today, hopefully Marie will be out of the pound by tomorrow."
Margo: "I'd better not make it too obvious that I'm too friendly with
you in front of them, that way I can make them think I'm still on side
with them."
Janie: "Yeah, great thinking Margo" she sees Kathy, Susan and Dot and
softly elbows Margo in the gut, "Sorry Gaffney, did'nt see you there."
Margo: "You clumsy stupid bitch, why don't you watch where you going
and what you're doing."
Jennifer: "Move a lot faster than you are right now, I don't have all
morning, Gaffney, Turner you should have been at the showers already."
Margo: "Yeah, all right I'm going." to Janie "You'll get yours." she
moves on ahead, Janie goes after her
Kathy: "How thrilling it is to see 2 stupid moles at one anothers
throats first thing in the morning."
Jennifer: "The same thing applies to you as well as Gaffney and Turner,
Bates, get cracking all of you."
They all move to the shower block

In the sickbay, Reb has just woken up and realised she's still in the
sickbay: "Geez terrific, I've gotta get out of here today." just then
she hears the door to the doctors room being opened
