Cynthia walks along the corridor when suddenly she gets another flashback to the past

15 years earlier

An inmate with a slight resemblance to Reb Kean approaches Cynthia as she doing her rounds, shë seems in a hurry and nearly knocks Cynthia over, the inmate's name is Penny Lane

Penny: "Miss Leach, you've gotta come quick, there something wrong with Edith, I think she's having another one of her bad turns."

Cynthia:"Slow down Penny, where is Edith now."

Penny: "In her cell, lying on the bed."

Cynthia: "Right we better get going, well come along Girl, I might need a hand y'know." they both run to Edith's cell, Edith is lying on the floor in agony, "OMG, you better go get the doctor now Penny, Ill see what I can do for Edith," Cynthia picks Edith from the floor, "Don't worry Edith,  everything's going to be all right, the doctors on his way, just hang in there."

Cynthia unlocks one of the cells and walks in

Cynthia: "Winter, wake up, you and I have things to discuss."

Margo: "Marie, whats going on, what are you doing in here, Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Shut up Gaffney, I came here to talk to Winter, not you, hold on maybe you can be in this after all."

Marie: "Is there something we can do for you Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Oh Winter, you're so right there's something you can do for me, and you will do for me, by this time tomorrow night, I want it so that both Kean and Bates end up in solitary."

Marie: "Trust me there's nothin I'd like more than to see those 2 bitches spend some time in the pound, only thing is Bates is like a barracuda when she gets going, you can't lay a finger on her without coppin one hell of a beating in the process."

Cynthia: "Come now Winter, surely you can give me a better answer than that, I mean I'm the one that decided you were going to be top dog, I can just as easily replace you with someone that can do the job, besides you don't have get in a fight with them, you just have to wait for the right moment and make it appear as if they attacked you for no reason, or make it look as if they wrecked something, its just a matter of careful planning and timing."

Marie: "Yeah, and with a screw to witness the whole thing, what could go wrong."

Cynthia: "Remember Winter, this time tomorrow I want to find both of them in solitary, it's time they learned who runs things in here, can I count on your support as well, Gaffney?," Cynthia goes over to Margo and hands her some drugs, it looks like cocaine, "There's more where that came from if you get it right."

Margo: "Thanks Miss Leach, you can count on me to get Kean and Bates thrown into the pound as well."

Cynthia: "Good I knew a bit of friendly persuasion would help you see things my way, " she leaves the cell and locks it and mutters under her breath, "Yes, Gaffney I always knew you had no backbone or self control and would sell your own mother to get one last fix, but fortunately I can use your own misgivings to my own advantage."

Marie: "I think you and me need to have a little talk, Gaffney, about me and me mates being set up and landing in the pound."

Margo: "Sure thing Marie, it was Reb and Kathy, they set you up so you'd land up in the pound."

Marie: "Yeah and you had nothing to do with it, right."

Margo: "Of course not Marie, why should I."

Marie: "If that's the case then you can hand me over the dough, you've been flashing around then."

Margo: "Hold on Marie, who says I've got any dough on me."

Marie: "Hand it over Gaffney or ill thump ya."

Margo picks up her shoe and gives Marie all the money, "There you go, satisfied."

Marie: "Yeah for the moment, what'll be better though is to see those 2 bitches rotting in the pound, and then Ill take back what is rightfully mine."

The next day at the shower block

Reb and Noeline are walking along the corridor, Kathy, Dot and Susan are behind them

Kathy: "G'day, Reb, Noeline did you have a good nights sleep last night."

Reb with her classic smirk: "Yeah, just fine Kath, how about you, last night was the best night's sleep I've ever had since I've been at this stinking dump."

Noeline: "Yeah great, no having look at any of the screw's ugly mugs in the middle of the night."

Reb: " Yeah especially not one certain ugly fat, bitch screw, I only hope we never have to ever see it again."

Kathy: "Yeah well, she knows what awaits her if she does." just then Cynthia appears, "GLAHFOT Miss Leach."

Cynthia snarling to Noeline and Dot: "Get moving you 2, if you dont want to find yourselves on charges for malingering" not you Kean, Bates, Short, "Kean, both you and Bates will report for extra cleaning duties after morning tea for the next week, Short, you can scrub the corridors."

Reb: "Yeah, is that right?? what for."

Cynthia: "As punishment for malingering when you're supposed to be in the shower block and also for the stunt you all pulled last night, and Kean as an additional charge for insolence in failing to carry out a direct order now, you will report for extra cleaning duties during your recreational period for the next 2 days, if you want to make it longer just carry on ,now move it."

They all move quickly towards the shower block

At breakfast, Reb, Kathy, Susan and Noeline are sitting at a table, Marie, Margo, Janie, Jenny are sitting at another table

Susan: "I see Margo's sitting with Marie now.'

Kathy: "Yeah is'nt it strange who quickly people change sides, so fickle and unreliable, could you please pass me the sugar Noeline."

Reb: Kath, what was it you said to the fat ugly bitch screw before we went to the showers this morning."

Kathy: "What was that?? Oh GLAHFOT, I sometimes say it to people, I met this bloke when I escaped from the hole once so I could go to see Davie's grave, it's a great saying that has a double meaning, this is what it means , Im sure you can figure out for yourselves what I meant by it when I said it to the leach on the way to the showers."

They all kill themselves laughing

Later in the day, Harold and Katherine are outside by the swimming pool, Katherine is in the water, when a middle aged man comes outside

Charlie: "Phone call for you Harold, a lady by the name of Ann Reynolds."

Harold: "Oh good, I've been waiting for her call." Harold rushes in to answer the phone

Charlie: "Now whats all that about, I wonder, its been a long time since I've seen your dad rush to the phone as quick."

Katherine: "Dad, really likes Ann Reynolds, she's the governor of Wentworth Prison."

Charlie beaming: "I see, that explains everything."

Just then Harold comes out: "Great news, Katherine, Ann has managed to locate Ray Proctor. we are to meet at the "the Pleasure Parade." at 18h30, both Ann and Ray will be there."

Katherine: "That's great Dad, I would be interested in what he has to say about this, now how about coming into the water for a swim, you too Uncle Charlie, say when's Aunt Charlie coming for a swim."

Charlotte: "Here I am." she jumps in the pool

Later in the laundry", Noeline has gone on skip duty, Marie is on the press, Margo, Jenny, Janie on the folding and driers

Marie: "So you all know what to do."

Janie: "Yeah, we've just gotta make sure a screw's close by, preferably the leach or Walters."

Margo: "So the plan is for one for us to wreck the cell and have the leach close by to catch them in the cell and chuck them in the pound."

Marie:"Yeah"she cackles and pulls down the steam press

In the kitchen

Noeline comes into the kitchen for a pick up

Noeline passes Reb and whispers: "You better watch your back, I notice Winter and Margo are thick as thieves again."

Reb: "Yeah, I sorta noticed when they were sitting together this morning, thanks I will." "goes over to Kathy, "Listen Kath I think Winter's up to one of her lousy schemes again, we better watch our backs.

Kathy: "Yeah, I've now doubt Winter's got some evil plan forming in that pea brain mind of hers, the sneaky underhanded lousy bitch."

Just then Sassy comes into the kitchen and goes over to Reb and Kathy

Kathy jokingly: "Hey Sassy, no long time no see, are you on the scrounge again."

Edwina jokingly: "Sassy is very well fed, there's no reason for her to scrounge."

Reb: "She's just looking for a bit of love and attention, are'nt you Sassy, " Reb then picks Sassy up and pets her, Sassy is purring loudly

Later in the recroom Reb, Kathy, Susan and Noeline are playing cards, Susan and Dot are watching the telly, just then Dot says she wants to go to her cell to read a book

Kathy: "GLAHFOT Dot, see you later." all chuckle and carry on with their card game, about 5 minutes later

Reb: "Which one of you cheating slags gave me a dud hand."

Noeline:"Who are you calling a cheating slag, OMG look what the cat just dragged in."

Marie, Janie, Jenny walk in

Kathy: "GLAHFOT Winter and all, come in here to cause trouble again no doubt." all laugh

Marie: "Come quick, it's Dot she's passed out in mine and Margo's cell."

Kathy: "Oh yeah, pull the other one, what would Dot be doing in your cell, Winter."

Marie: "She came to ask me for the book back that she lent me last week."

Reb: "Lets go." her and Kathy go, just then Noeline follows them, Marie stops her,"I would'nt go after them not unless you want to go to the pound as well, Burke."

Noeline: "You lousy doublecrossing snake, Winter, what have you gone and done this time."

Marie: "You'll see."

Kathy and Reb run into Marie's cell looking for Dot, the place looks as if a tornado struck it but they don't notice this at first as they are looking for Dot, just then Cynthia comes in

Cynthia: "Well, well, well, I see you've seen fit to totally destroy the contents of someone's elses cell, you both can go to solitary for 48 hours."just then Terry appears behind her

Reb: "Yeah, well you know we did'nt do it you fat lousy, ugly bitch."

Terry: "SHUT UP Kean, you'll do as Miss Leach says right now or you'll get 48 hours more on top of the 48 hours you've already got."

Kathy: "Who's gonna make us go to the pound, you 2 dont make me laugh, you know full well Leach, that Reb and I had nothing to do with this, and that its some dirty scheme you and Winter plotted out, to get us chucked in the pound."

Cynthia: "I beg your pardon, how dare you accuse me like that Bates."

Kathy: "Oh I dare, you're a lousy nasty vindictive bitch Leach, you ,Winter and her mates are all tarred with the same ugly brush, always causing havoc and misery wherever you go."

Terry: "THATS ENOUGH BATES, I can promise you that If we have to get more than 2 officers to estcort you and Kean to solitary, you'll both spend at least 2 weeks there instead of 2 days, now what's it going to be, do you move to solitary right now now or do we have to get reinforcements."

Cynthia: "Move it now, get outside Kean, you too Bates."

Kathy glares at Cynthia for about 30 seconds then just shakes her head and whispers to Reb,"I think they've got us this time Reb, by golly are we gonna make Winter and Leach pay when we get out."they move out the cell, they pass Marie, Margo, Janie, Jenny

Reb: "Enjoy it while you can Winter, we'll even the score when we get out I can promise you."

Cynthia: "MOVE it Kean, or you'll get another day in the pound."

Marie's cackling can be heard as they walk the corridors towards the solitary cells

Kathy and Reb are placed into the solitary cells opposite the main buildings, there are 5 solitary cells, Reb is placed into the 1st cell, Kathy is placed in the 5th cell which is at least 50 metres away from the 1st cell.

Later in the evening 18h25

Harold and Katherine enter "The Pleasure Palace." Ann is already sat at the table with a man, the waitron takes them to the table where Ann is sat

Harold: "Good evening Ann, may I say it's an absolute pleasure to see you again, you look lovely this evening."

Ann: "Why thank you Harold, you look good yourself, you look lovely too Katherine."

Katherine: "Thank you Mrs Reynolds, its good to see you again."

Ann: " Likewise, please sit down, by the way this is Ray Proctor ."

Ray: "Pleased to meet you both." he shakes Harolds hand and then Katherine's hand all sit down

Katherine and Harold:"Likewise a pleasure to finally meet you at last."

They all make small talk it emerges that Ray has found another job in a restuarant in a nearby town and is about to move to a new apartment in a few days time

Katherine: "Ray, do you remember how Reb Kean got sent to Blackmoor a few weeks ago."

Ray: "Yes, she did a very ugly thing, she gave Marlene that horrible cookie and she was horrible to me and the other women."

Katherine: "Ray, I know Reb has done some bad things, but do you remember a letter that she gave you."

Ray: "What about the letter."

Ann: " Ray we now know that you and Reb were blackmailing Joan Ferguson with it."

Ray is totally speechless

2 hours after Reb and Kathy are placed in solitary, the cell is unlocked and Cynthia and Terry come in

Cynthia: "ON YOUR FEET KEAN"

Reb: "You lousy fat ugly bitch, what do you want now, Im already in here because of some trumped up charge you and Winter made up to get me and Kathy put in the pound, what more do you want."

Cynthia: "Wrong answer Kean, remember what I told you when you first got here that I would not tolerate your insolence and insubordination and that I'd make you experience pain, well now you're going to experience just how nasty I can get when I get really, really mad."

Terry goes over to Reb and yanks her from the bed, Reb kicks him in the shins, he gives her a backhand, Reb flies across the cell towards Cynthia, Cynthia has put on her black gloves, just then the sound of ferocious barking takes place outside the cell

Cynthia to Terry: "Hold her I want to give her a few hard belts." Terry has Reb in a vice grip, Cynthia grabs her baton gives Reb a few hard whacks across the head and a few to her ribs, Reb is left gasping for breath in sheer agony

Cynthia: "Ill be back here tomorrow sometime Kean, I better see a massive improvement in your attitude or you'll get more of the same treatment, do you hear me."

Reb: "Yes."

Cynthia goes over to Reb, hits her hard once more  in the ribs: "Yes what!!!" the dogs barking outside has become even more ferocious

Reb: "Yes Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Good, it amazing what a little encouragement can do to improve your manners, I better see a vast improvement tomorrow in your general demeanour or else!!!," her and Terry leave the cell the dogs are still barking,Cynthia muttering to herself "One day, Ill have those flea ridden mongrels out of here, then there will be one to stop me then."

Inside the main building

Cynthia: "I've got to go off duty in 30 minute's time there's just one thing I have to do before then."

Terry: "Ill go to the other wing, by then Johnathan should be on duty."

Cynthia: "See you tomorrow." Terry goes in the opposite direction, Cynthia unlocks a cell door and steps in, she puts on her black gloves

Cynthia: "GET UP Short."

Dot: "Good Lord, what are you doing in our cell, Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "You shut up and mind your own business Perkins, or you'll get the same as Short here." to Susan : "I said get up Short." Susan gets up, Cynthia goes over to her, "Its time for a body search Short, I have reason to believe you're in possession of some contraband items." Cynthia pushes Susan up against the wall and roughly starts fondling and touching her, meanwhile Dot has jumped out of the bed

Dot: "Leave her alone, she's just a kid."

Cynthia: "Oh yes that may be so, but what's THIS." she produces a packet of contraband cigarettes, "You're on an insubordination charge Perkins, for failing to obey a direct order given to you, as for you girlie, this speaks for itself, not only are you on a charge for keeping contraband items in your cell, you will scrub the corridors for the next week during the recreational period, DO you hear me." no answer, "Come now Short, you don't want me to add a charge of dumb insolence to the list of charges as well do you." no answer, Cynthia goes over to Susan, she slaps Susan hard across the face twice, "Do you hear me now Short."

Susan sobbing: "Yes Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Good to see you learn so fast, get back to bed now, you'll report to me straight after dinner for cleaning duties tomorrow," she walks out, just as she's about the close the cell, "Ill make you regret your ever having played a part in Bates' and Kean's little stunt the other night for a long long time to come, I can promise you that Short." she leaves

Dot gets out of bed and goes over to Susan: "You all right luv, what on earth is that wretched woman talking about."

Susan throwing her arms around Dot: "Oh Dot, its because of that night we set her up, you know night before last, and now both Reb and Kath are in the pound."

Dot: "But what would you have to do with it, what happened."

Susan tells Dot everything from the day she first overheard Cynthia and Marie's conversation on the way back to the kitchen

Dot's face seems to age 10 years in a few brief seconds but just says: OMG

Ray, Ann, Harold and Katherine are sitting at a table in the "Pleasure Palace" Ann, Harold, Katherine are all looking at Ray expectantly.

Ray: "So how did you find out about this, did Reb say something about this."

Ann: "Yes, she did, she told Katherine all about this letter, Ray."

Katherine: "Ray, I know instictively when someone is lying to me or not, don't ask me how but I have just got a sixth sense about when someone is lying or not, and I know Reb was telling me the truth about the incidents involving her and Joan Ferguson, Reb has lied to me about a couple of other things, but believe me when I say I know she's not lying about her and Joan Ferguson."

Ray: "This Miss Ferguson wanted me to arrange an accident for Reb in the kitchen, but at the last minute I could'nt go through with it, so Reb came up with this idea to make a letter that would protect me and Reb from Miss Ferguson."

Everyone is dumbstruck finally Harold: "Ray are you actually saying that Miss Ferguson actually wanted you to arrange an accident for Reb Kean so that she would be killed."

Ray: "Yes but I could'nt do it, I could never do it, at the last minute just before Reb was going to the stove, I stopped her and told her everything about what Miss Ferguson wanting me to make her have an accident."

Katherine: "Reb actually did'nt tell me about this accident Miss Ferguson had you plan for her, she did however mention the letter, that's why we have asked to see you, what you've just told us gives us much more ammunition to work with now, Ray do you still have the letter."

Ray: "Yes, I have it in a very safe place, no one else knows where it is but me."

Ann: "The thing is we have to be very discreet about this whole thing, its of the utmost importance that no one finds out about this except for all of us and Reb, Katherine could you please talk to Reb about this and ask for her co-operation with us, the only hope we have in dealing with this situation is to have 2 collaborating witnesses."

Katherine: "Of course Mrs Reynolds, I realise that this letter alone isn't enough evidence by itself, they could always claim it was written by anyone."

Harold: "Ann, I realise what a grave situation this is, and only one other officer knows about this, Jonathan Grant, I have'nt even told my deputy governor about my suspicions yet, if we have any hope at all of catching Ferguson and Leach and getting them booted out of the Prison service, we have to keep this whole business as descreet as possible, I can't emphasise enough that we need to let as few people as possible know about this, as Katherine says and I believe her, that Cynthia Leach is one of the most disturbed, sadistic people she has ever encoutered, if she gets a hint of what we are up to, there's no doubt in my mind at all that she will take whichever means possible with which to get herself out of the hangman's noose."

Ray: "This seems to be a very wicked wicked woman and now she's giving Reb a hard time, maybe even worse than Miss Ferguson."

Katherine: "Ray I can promise you something right now, Joan Ferguson does'nt even come close to Cynthia Leach when It comes to a real, dangerous corrupt officer, I happened to come to work one day and Sassy the siamese cat came to meet me at the car one day ,I saw with my own eyes how Sassy changed in 5 seconds flat from an affectionate cat that  she usually is into a spitfire wildcat with every hackle rising on her body and growling loudly at the mere sight of Cynthia Leach leaving her shift from work one day."

Ray: "OMG what have I done, what have I done to poor Reb." his face is flushed he suddenly jumps up from the chair and runs to the mens room."

Ann, Harold, and Katherine are totally dumbstruck for a few seconds then ...

Katherine softly: "I think he realises just how dangerous Cynthia Leach really is...

Meanwhile in Susan and Dot's cell

Dot: "It's ok love, Ill look after you I'll talk to Mrs O' Connell about this, Mrs O'Connell may be a strict no nonsense officer but she won't allow the leach to come in her again."

Susan: "Dot, the worst part of all was the way she was touching me, I feel so violated and dirty."

Dot with a grim look on her face: "Anyone that kills that ***** deserves a medal for what she did, I don't like to say bad things about anyone, but she's pure evil personified, picking on such a sweet innocent young girl such as yourself, she should be shot."

In Kathy's cell in solitary that's some 50 metres away, it's the cell Reb was in solitary before, Kathy is asleep, Sassy is lying on the bed, Sassy gets up and starts growling, Kathy wakes up

Kathy: "WTF, oh bloody hell not again." just then Sassy goes out the cell, the door opens and Cynthia and Terry come in

Cynthia: "Get up Bates."

Kathy: "What for, what do you want now Leach."

Cynthia: "I don't like your attitude Bates."

Kathy: "Oh yeah, so the feelings 100% mutual Leach, I can promise you that, now thats out the way Ill ask you once more  what do you want."

Terry goes over to Kathy and makes as if he wants to drag her off the bed, just before he gets there Kathy jumps up: "What now Walters, are you the leach's little lapdog now."

Terry tries to punch Kathy but she moves out of the way, at the same time she delivers 2 quick blows and has him flat on his back gasping for air

Kathy to Cynthia: "Now for the 3rd time Leach, what do you want??." she looks at Terry who is slowly getting up from the floor , "Have you had enough Walters, do you feel lucky, do you wanna try it again??" Kathy has unwisely turned her back to Cynthia Leach

Just then Cynthia throws herself at Kathy, she manages to hit Kathy at the back of the head with her baton, Kathy feels a searing pain, butshe manages to overpower Cynthia with 2 chops, she has Cynthia lying on the floor, Kathy picks up the baton just then Terry tries to overpower her, just then Kathy passes out, Cynthia gets up from the floor takes the baton and piles into Kathy who is lying unconcious on the floor, she hits Kathy in all the places she hit Reb, the dogs are barking ferociously outside but as only Terry and Cynthia are on duty there is no one to help Kathy

In Reb's cell which is pitch black now, she is lying on the bed tossing and turning just then the door opens, Cynthia and Terry come inside

Cynthia: "Get up Kean."

Reb: "What for now, can't you leave me in peace to get some sleep, "

Terry: "Miss Leach told you to get up Kean, when an officer tells you to do something you do it."

Reb reluctantly gets up, she sees Cynthia clearly now in the dim light, Cynthia now looks totally deranged and out of breath

Cynthia: "You did'nt answer me the way you were supposed to Kean, It seems as if I have to teach you another lesson in manners."

Reb: "Im sorry Miss Leach, it's just that you woke me up, I thought for a moment you were my mum, she also used to come into my room at night when I was trying to sleep and start to hassle me."

Cynthia: "So that's how you spoke to your own mother is it Kean, is it any wonder she does'nt want anything more to do with you."

Reb: "That's how I used to speak to her, I don't speak to her like that anymore."

Cynthia goes over to Reb she gives her a cold intimidating stare, Reb returns her gaze after about 30 second Cynthia slaps Reb hard across the face twice: "How do you address an officer when you speak to them Kean."

Reb: "Sorry Miss Leach, as I said I forgot..."

Cynthia: "SHUT UP KEAN." she continues to give Reb a cold intimidating stare

Reb: "What can I do for you, Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Now that's the answer I like hearing Kean, you see it is'nt so hard after all is it."

Reb: "No Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Get to bed Kean."

Reb: "Yes Miss Leach, thanks Miss Leach."

Terry and Cynthia leave the cell, once they have left

Reb: "Yes Miss Leach, Up Yours Miss Leach." she takes her pillow and throws it with all her might across the room she then gropes in the dark trying to find it, when she does she throws herself on the bed and starts crying

Kathy wakes up her whole body's aching from the beating Cynthia gave her whilst she was unconcious

Kathy: "Bloody bitch really piled into me," the scene changes

13 years earlier 1972, there are kids playing at school during lunch break, Kathy now 10 years old is playing with her friends Maureen and Sandy when her cousin Desiree and a couple of Desiree's friends come up to her and her friends

Desiree: "You little maggot, what did you put in my sandwiches."

Kathy: "What your mum told me to, cheese and tomato."

Desiree: "Whats this then," she opens up her sandwich and there is sand between the cheese and tomato

Kathy: "Well I did'nt put it in there."

Desiree: "Wait till I tell mum, you're gonna get another hiding."

Maureen: "You know you're a real horrible person, Desiree, every week you come to us whinging that there's something funny in your sandwiches, you probably put the sand there yourself so that you could get Kathy in trouble."

Sandy: "Yeah how come it's always sand Desiree, huh??

Desiree to Kathy: "Wait till you get home, we'll see who's story mum and dad believes." her and her friends walk away

Maureen: "I'll ask mum and dad if you can stay with us on weekends from now Kath, at least you won't have to put up with them then."

Kathy: "That would be great, you mum and dad are so nice, just like my mum and dad were before daddy got killed."

Later after the boys have played footy, they are in the changeroom, David Bates is there with his 2 friends Stuart and Jack, they are busy changing back into their school clothes in seperate cubicles when suddenly Jack starts screaming, David and Stuart start running out of their cubicles to see why Jack is screaming, David is only dressed in his underwear as he did not have time to get dressed, as they reach Jack

Jack: "I saw a big spider run across the floor, I just got a fright for a second sorry guys."

David: "No prob, Jack here I was thinking you was being strangled or something, "he and Stuart start to go back to their cubicles, just then

Jack: "Davie what happened , I can see the top of your bum, it looks redder than a beetroot."

David: I fell and hurt myself, it's just a bruise, nothing to worry about, come on guys we better get moving faster already before old pokerface comes in her looking for us." he moves towards his cubicle and gets dressed as fast as possible

Both Jack and Stuart are looking very worried as they are dressing, just then the teacher they called "old Pokerface" comes in as they are coming out, he sees them : "Please explain exactly why youré still here otherwise you'll all be in Detention this afternoon, Bates??"

David: "Sorry Sir, I thought I saw a spider, whatever it was it's gone now though."

Fuller(Old Pokerface) : "You all have exactly 3 seconds to get out of here and consider this your lucky day Bates or you would be in Detention this afternoon if I were'nt in the good mood I'm in today."

David: "Yes Mr Fuller, thanks Mr Fuller." all 3 boys rush out of there before the 3 seconds are up.......

Back at the Pleasure Palace, Ray has composed himself and comes back to the table

Harold: "Are you ok Ray."

Ray: "No because I can't stop thinking about Reb, what have I done, that horrible woman is probably torturing her now."

Ann: "Ray, I don't think It's that bad, If Reb does what she's told she will be alright, but we must try to get both Miss Leach and Miss Ferguson before something else happens, will you help us."

Ray: "You tell me when and where, and Ill bring that letter so they can be punished for what they have done."

Katherine: "We'll let you know when and where, Ill tell Reb when we get back what we are planning to do about Miss Ferguson, but we need co-operation from both of you."

Ray: "I will do anything you say, Katherine, both these women must be stopped."

Harold: "I could'nt agree more, Ann could I get you something else to drink."

Ann: "No thanks Harold, I think if I have anymore I won't be in a fit state to go to work tomorrow."

Harold: "Katherine, Ray what about you 2." both shake their heads no, "We'll we might as well leave now, Don't look so worried Ray, we will sort this out."

Ray: "I only hope you are right, Mr Freeman."

The next morning, both Kathy and Reb can hear it, Kathy is still in pain as it was quite a beating she had whilst she was unconcious

Kathy grimaces as the door opens and Beverly comes in with Dot, Beverley to Dot: "You have 2 minutes Dot, Ill be waiting outside."

Kathy: "Oh thank goodness, Dotty how are you, how's Susan."

Dot: "That wretched Leach woman came into our cells last night and traumatised that poor girl, and produced a bunch of contraband cigarettes to put her on a charge, I spent the whole night trying to calm her down, poor little thing."

Kathy: "Ill get Leach when I get out of here, she gave me a workover last night."

Dot: "How did she manage to do that."

Kathy: "Both her and creepy Walters came in here and she got me whilst I had my back to her, she came and gave me such a whack at the back of the head.."

Beverley: "Your time is up Dot, lets go, we'll be back later Kathy."

Kathy: "Thanks Miss Carter, see you later Dot."they leave the cell "You beat the crap out of me Leach, my heads pounding, Ill make sure your is too, you deranged, crazy, totally freaked out bitch."

In Reb's cell Dot has just delivered the breakfast

Dot: "You allright love, you look a bit peaky."

Reb: "Yeah, well would'nt you be a bit peaky if you had a visit in the middle of the night by some ugly lousy bitch screw."

Dot: "As a matter of fact, Susan and I did get a visit last night by a ugly bitch screw, so did Kathy."

Reb: "What!!!, what did she come to you for, and what was she doing with Kathy."

Dot: "She came to torment Susan, then she hit Kathy as Kathy had her back turned to her."

Beverley: "Come along Perkins, I don't have all day, we'll be along later for the tray, Kean."

Reb after Beverley and Dot have gone: "You sure are one totally phsyco, crazy, mean, totally ******* up bitch leach, you make the freak look like a saint, you freak Ferguson what have you done to me, I swear to God Ill make you pay some day for this I promise you, but before I come for you, ill get this phsco bitch first, Ill sent her straight to hell if I have to."

Harold is and Ann are alone at Ann's place

Ann: "You know I really had a great time tonight, Harold."

Harold: "So did I, I'd really like to see much more of you Ann."

Ann: "Likewise, but I'm afraid its not going to be easy with our Prison's being so far away from us."

Harold: "Dont worry, Ill make a plan to come and see you, besides I'm due for a vacation, I think Ill take a couple of days off and come to see you, Im sure Janet O' Connell can hold the fort for a couple of days without me."

Ann: "That sounds great Harold, Id really like to spend some time with you alone."

Harold: "Ill call you tomorrow before we go back, don't worry together we'll sort this thing out, but I'm really going to have to go now Ann."

Ann: "It was a great evening Harold, thank you."

Harold: "But next time it will be even better, because we'll be by ourselves," he gives Ann a goodnight kiss and leaves as he leaves Ann looks very happy

Later in the evening Cynthia has come back on duty, she is standing over Susan who is scrubbing the corridors she comes over to Susan

Cynthia: "You know something Short, It's very befitting to see you in the position you are in now, maybe I can arrange to see you in it more often, what do you think of that, Short, Susan does'nt answer her, "I asked you a question Short." Susan does'nt answer, Cynthia goes up to her and kicks the bucket over, "Get up and get on you feet, Short." Susan slowly rises to her feet but won't look Cynthia in the eye, "Look at me Short and answer my question which was do you want to find yourself in this position more often."

Susan forces herself to look at Cynthia and answers, "No Miss Leach."

Cynthia gives Susan an intimidating stare for a few seconds then with lighning speeds gives Susan 2 hard resounding slaps across the face: "Are you contradicting me Short."

Susan : "No Miss Leach, I don't want to scrub floors forever that's all I meant, I did'nt mean to upset you or give you the wrong answer, Im sorry."

Cynthia: "Oh girlie, you have'nt even begun to pay what you owe me for your part in the little escapade the other night ,whixh is what really upset me, now go get a bucket and mop and clean up this mess before I put you on a charge, and Short, Ill decide exactly how long you'll be on these extra duties for, now move it."

Later on an unnamed extra is  delivering the meals to solitary when Cynthia snarls to the extra, "Put the tray down, get out and wait for me." she is in Reb's cell, Reb is lying on the bed

Cynthia: "GET UP." Reb gets up fast but says nothing Cynthia walks over to her, "Wherever are your manners Kean, when an officer comes into a room, you get up."

Reb: "Why all you ever do when you come in here is rant and rave whatever I do anyway, so what difference does it make anyway."

Cynthia with lightning speed gives Reb a punch in the stomach and 4 hard whacks across the face, "Wrong answer, I promise you I'll teach you manners and respect , now what do you say."

Reb: "Yes Miss leach, sorry miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Stand up straight." somehow despite Reb's pain she manages to stand up straight and look Cynthia in the eye, Cynthia gives Reb another hard slap, "Now what do you say Kean."

Reb: "Thanks Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Good girl, I can see that with a bit of friendly persuasion you can do it after all, someone else will pick up your tray later."

Reb: "Yes Miss Leach, thanks Miss Leach."

Cynthia gives Reb one long last cold stare of contempt before she leaves the cell as she closes the door

15 years earlier

She sees the inmate resembling Reb Kean (Penny Lane) who is sitting in the courtroom after having being found guilty of the murder of Cynthia's mother along with her accomplace Harry laughing at her saying, "You sap Leach, you really are one sucker, you fell for my sob story hook, line and sinker and I bumped off your old lady." thats the exact moment when Cynthia changed overnight from kind caring officer to the evil, sadistic, pathologically violent officer she became, her expression changed the moment from the one she had before to the one she has had ever since, no one, but no one would ever get the kind of sympathy and kindness she once gave so freely

The next day Reb and Kathy are released from solitary

Kathy: "Rotten ugly bitch gave it to me when I was out cold, I had Walters on his back on the floor and turned my back for one sec, next thing the psycho bitch hit me on the head, I managed to get the thing out of her hands and wanted to give her a taste of her own medicine but passed out, when I woke up again, I was aching all over."

Reb: "That fat psycho lousy bitch came into my cell 3 times in the pound, the first time she layed into me and I did'nt pass out, the second time she came in must have been after she piled into you, because she looked totally deranged and freaked out, more so than already, she hit me everytime she came in there, only the second and third time was'nt as bad as the first."

Kathy: "Reb, I tell you now, we've gotta do something about this ******* up bitch, Dot tells me she's on Susie's back."

Reb: "Yeah, Dot told me the same thing too yesterday, Ugly physcho bitch came to their cell in the middle of the night..."

Just then Janet O Connell comes into  the cell

Janet: "Kean, Bates, You've just been released from solitary, do you want to find yourselves back there, why are you not back at work."

Kathy: "Sorry Miss O Connell, we'll go back right now."

Janet: "You go back to work Bates, Kean you come with me to the social worker she wants to see you, Kathy goes towards the kitchen, Reb goes with Janet to  Katherine's office, Janet knocks on the door, Katherine from inside, "Come In."

Janet comes in : "Kean to see you Miss Freeman."

Katherine: "Thanks Mrs O' Connell, come in Reb and sit down", Reb comes and sits down, "Katherine to Janet, "Can I just send for an officer when Im done, this may take a bit longer than normal."

Janet: "Thats fine just ring through to reception when you're done." she then leaves the room

Katherine: "Reb what on earth happened to you, that you and Kathy both landed up in solitary."

Reb: "Lets just say that Winter got her revenge from before, with a little help from a certain ugly bitch screw."

Katherine: "What!!!, don't you think you better tell me what happened.

Reb tells Katherine about the set up then: "That fat psycho bitch came into my cell 3 times when I was there."

Katherine: "OMG Reb, you better tell me all about this, I saw Ray Proctor the other night and we all thought he was overreacting when he ran away from the table suddenly in tears, but now I see he was'nt

Reb stunned: "You saw Proctor, Ray Proctor???

Katherine: "Yes we certainly did, and he told me something very interesting, something very important about Miss Ferguson which backs up your story in full, which incidently you forgot to tell me about

Reb: "OMG you mean about the Freak arranging a "little accident for me" I don't know how it must have slipped my mind somehow."

Katherine: "I'm glad Ray Proctor told me as you will both have collaborating evidence that Ferguson was out to get you and wanted you either dead or badly injured, I must say Ray was extremely upset and very worried about you."

Reb: "So what happens now, does Proctor still have the letter, is he prepared to use it."

Katherine: "Yes he is prepared as long as you're willing to go along with him, but if we have any hope at all of catching Ferguson or Leach we have to make sure that yours and Ray's version of the events are one and the same."

Reb: "That's great to be able to get back at Ferguson, but what does Leach have to do with all of this."

Katherine realising she said something she should'nt have composes herself and says: " What happened whilst you were in solitary, and what happened to get you sent there in the first place."

Reb: "That bitch Winter and Leach had me and Kathy thrown into the pound on some trumped up charge, Winter and her cronies came running into the recroom saying that Dot had passed out in Winter's cell so Kathy and I went to go see if Dot was alright, we were so busy trying to find Dot that we did'nt see that the cell looked like a tornado had struck it ,next thing we know the ugly bitch screw appears with Walters and chucks us in the pound, once in the pound a couple of hours later Leach and Walters come into the cell they put me in as I'm trying to get some shut eye and the Leach starts piling into me for no reason."

Katherine: "How did it actually happen."

Reb: ....and then she left my cell and later on that night she went to Kathy's cell to antagonise her, somehow she managed to hit Kathy on the head whilst Kathy had her back turned to her, whilst Walter's was still flat on his back, the Leach's blow to Kathy's head was so hard that Kathy passed out, thats when the Leach piled into her as well while she was out cold, I heard the dogs barking like crazy outside, next thing she comes back into my cell with this totally deranged look on her face screaming at me to get up, I knew I had to be careful as she might have killed me otherwise, I'm sure she would like to anyway."

Katherine: "That's horrific Reb, I certainly will ask to see Kathy later on today and ask her about this as well, I'll also be seeing the governor about this incident as well." Katherine picks up the phone and dials a number, "Hi Mrs O' Connell?? would it be possible for me to see Kathleen Bates some time later today......, 12h30 is fine thanks."

Reb: "That's not all of it either, the bitch went to go see Susan and Dot as well that same night, before she came to see Kathy and myself the second time, Dot told me yesterday when she brought the meal to the pound."

Katherine: "What was she doing in their cell, it seems as if the woman's not content to just torment one person at a time, I wonder how many others she visited that night, anyway it's all the more reason for you to work together with us in order to get both her and Ferguson booted out of the prison service for good."

Reb: "Miss Freeman don't get me wrong, I'm all for Ferguson being booted out of the Prison service, but what I don't understand is how you're gonna get the Leach booted out, I never thought I'd ever say this but I think I'd rather face the Freak any day than the Leach."

Katherine quickly composing herself not unnoticed by Reb: "Lets just say I've heard similar stories to the one you've just told me about her going into inmates cell's in the middle of the night from some of the others, at the very least  I can tell the governor about it and see what can be arranged to ensure it never happens again."

Reb: "You know something about the Leach don't you, it's got to be more than you're telling me now."

Katherine: "Lets just say I do know sonething which would be far better for you not to know about right now, the main thing right now though is to see that she is stopped from carrying on these so called "Midnight Raids." anymore."

Reb: "Yeah you're right, it would be great to not have to look at her ugly mug in the middle of the night, Im sure have you been able to get in touch with my mum, did she say she would come to see me again."

Katherine: "I'll give her a call later today and let you know what she says later, I suppose I better call an officer to escort you back to duties I want to have a talk with the governor before I see Kathy." she phones through, "Reb whatever you do, be very careful with Miss Leach, don't give her a reason to send you to solitary or put you on a charge."

Reb: "Ill sure try, the only thing is the bitch doesnt need much of a reason, she's always looking to charge someone or get them chucked into the pound."

Katherine looks worried but says nothing for a few seconds then: "I know but try not to antagonise her and you should be alright."

Later in the kitchen, Reb is busy stirring the pots on the stove, Kathy comes back into the kitchen and goes over to Reb

Kathy: "We need to talk alone sometime later today, I've just been to the social worker."

Reb: "Yeah, I have something to tell you as well, maybe we can talk during exercise period, best better get on with preparing the lunch though, that bitch screw Leach was in here just now giving everyone the evil eye, seems as if she's got her knife into Susan for some reason."

Kathy: "Yeah, I'm gonna ask Susan what the hell happened that day we got chucked in the pound."

Sassy has just come into the kitchen, meowing , Reb and Kathy turn around, Reb picks Sassy up whispering, "I missed you when I was in the hole the last couple of days," Sassy is purring loudly for a minute or so suddenly she stiffens, her ears prick up and she struggles to get away.

Edwina: "Right girls you all know what to do, that wretched Leach woman is no doubt on her way here right now," no one needs a second reminder, about 10 seconds after everyone is doing their repective duties, the kitchen door opens and Cynthia Leach comes in , the silence apart from the women working to get the lunch ready is so palpable you could hear a pin drop after about a minute

Cynthia: "Short, don't forget you are on extra cleaning duties during your recreation period today." Susan does'nt answer, "Did you hear what I said Short."

Susan: "Yes Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Report to me straight after the recreation period bell goes, don't have me come looking for you."

Susan: "Yes Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "You know something , its about time some of you were shifted out of here as you are far too cozy , Kean and Bates as of tomorrow, I think its time you were moved from kitchen duty to laundry duty."

Edwina: "Why, I'm very happy with Kathy and Reb working in my kitchen, at least they give me a hand in the kitchen unlike some I've had working here before, who just fool around the entire time they are here and get in the way."

Cynthia coldly and with minimum politeness: "Oh but Mrs Blackmore, it's not up to you to decide who works in here or not, it's entirely up to the officers in charge and the governor himself."

Edwina: "Can I have a word outside with you in the corridor please Miss Leach." both her and Cynthia go outside once outside the others gather round the door listening, "Listen here, I don't care what you think, I can promise you Ill fight you in the governors office If I have to about this, as I am the cook I'm sure its my prerogative to have working there whoever I choose to have working with there with me, If you like we can go to the governor's office right now to get this matter sorted out, when I go back inside and any of the women working in the kitchen want to change, Ill leave it entirely up to them, however if they all want to stay, Ill fight you every step of the way, you hear me Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "You are getting far too big for your boots lately and think you are irreplaceable, dont fool yourself Mrs Blackmore, if you cross me I can have you replaced so fast."

Edwina: "Is that all, if you've finished with your long tiresome speech, I have lunch to prepare so if you'll excuse me I have to get on with it, anytime you want to go to the governors office let me know and I'll be there, but just remember I'm not a prisoner that you can push around whenever you feel like it, I don't have to swallow your bull like all those other women in there so if you have nothing else to say why dont you make yourself scarce." Edwina then goes into the kitchen: "Right how far are we, is the lunch almost ready to be served."

Cynthia meanwhile is standing outside absolutely fuming (her face slowly turning purple with rage) she mutters: "I can promise you something right now Blackmore, Ill make it my own personal mission to have you and those flea ridden mongrels and that darn cat of yours removed from these premises at the soonest possible moment even if I have to play really dirty to do it, no-one makes a fool out of me in front of the scum in here and gets away with it." she then turns and walks up the opposite end of the corridor visibly seething with sheer rage.
 
Inside the kitchen Edwina: "Is everyone in here happy working on kitchen duty, please let me know if you're not as I can possibly find myself in the governor's office later today trying to explain why not to have any of you rostered somewhere else, like the laundry for example."

All : "We are very happy to be working here, we don't want to work anywhere else."

Reb: "Please don't let them send me to work with Winter and her cronies in the laundry."

Kathy: "Me neither."

Susan: "Please don't let them put me in the laundry Mrs Blackmore."

Dot: "Ed, I think I'd die if I had to spend a whole day in the laundry with the likes of Marie Winter and her friends

Edwina: "That's all I needed to know, don't worry that wretched Leach woman has one hell of a fight on her hands, if she thinks she can come in here and just shunt people around everytime she feels the need

In Harold office, Katherine is there

Katherine: "Dad, I've spoken to Reb Kean and Kathy Bates and they say Cynthia Leach came into their cells when they were in the pound, not only that but apparently earlier than the first time she went to see Kathy in solitary she went into Susan Short and Dot Perkins cell and tormented the life out of Susan, apparently she has Susan on cleaning duties because of some contraband cigarettes found in Susan's possession."

Harold: "Katherine, I know how you feel but on paper it looks as if Leach has done things by the book, you and I may know different but the solid proof is another thing altogether, besides Leach was able to produce the contraband cigarettes so the honest truth is that she appears to have been totally right in the punishment she meted out to Susan Short, however these midnight raids are something I will not tolerate in any prison I'm running, in fact I'm going to be having a meeting later today and I'll make it crystal clear that under no circumstances are officers are to go into the inmates cells unaccompanied, I will also not put Leach and Walters on the same work detail, Ill get Janet O'Connell on it straight away, I wish I could dismiss the Leach woman on the spot but the law does'nt permit it without hard solid evidence ."

Katherine: "I have told both Kathy and Reb not to antagonise Leach, Dad I was worried, twice with Reb Kean  and once with Kathy Bates I came close to telling them about what I overheard in the staffroom that day, but I was quick to change the subject somehow."

Harold: "Katherine, under no circumstances can they know what you heard that day, at least not until this whole thing is over, not that I don't trust them but the fewer people who know about this the better, Oh yes, I'm going to be getting in touch with Ann Reynolds today as soon as I get home."

Katherine: "Thats great Dad, I think you and Mrs Reynold's make a good couple, besides its been a long time since you've had a woman in your life."

Harold: "I know its been a while ever, since your mother passed away some 6 years ago, you know in some ways Ann reminds me of your mother a bit."

Katherine: "Thats great Dad I really like Mrs Reynolds, I think you are well suited" Katherine looks at her watch, "My goodness how time flies, I better get back to work straight away as I have lots of work to not least of which having to get in touch with Reb's mother and try and convince her to come and see her daughter somehow, everytime I call her she makes up an excuse not to come."

Harold: "Good luck, Ill see you at home later, say why don't you invite Jon for dinner as well."

Katherine: "Now you're talking, see you at home later." she leaves Harold's office

Harold picks up the phone: "Janet??, could you please come to my office at once, I have something very important to discuss with you....ok Ill expect you in 10 minutes, goodbye." he puts down the phone looking deep in thought

Outside during exercise period Kathy and Reb are walking alone

Reb: "So what did you want to talk about, what did the social worker say to you.??"

Kathy: "She wanted to know about what happened in the pound, I told her about Leach and Walters coming there and the Leach piling into me while I was out cold, I also told her about Leach visiting Susan and Dot just before she came to us."

Reb: "Yeah well I told her the same thing, she said she was going to go to the governor about it, but she knows something she isn't telling us about Leach, she nearly gave herself away twice when she was talking to me."

Kathy: "Yeah, I got the same impression myself, I wonder if she has something on the Leach."

Reb: "Whatever it is I think its only a gut feeling or she does'nt have enough proof to get that fat ugly bitch screw Leach booted out of here, but we may just be able to get that Freak Ferguson with my letter and mine and Proctor's testamony."

Kathy: "Proctor??, that's the prison cook that was at Wentworth before they sent you to this dump is'nt it, oh hell Reb here comes Winter and her mates again." Marie, Janie, Jenny are slowly approaching them

Reb: "What do you want Winter, this is a private conversation so just rack off in the direction you just came from."

Marie: "Did you have a nice time in the pound, I must say you were'nt missed."

Kathy: "Ok Winter, you've had you last laugh at our expense so why don't you and your 2 yappy dogs turn around and crawl back to where you came from before you find yourself flat on your back where you belong with your big ugly trap shut."

Marie and her friends leave as they can see Kathy means business

Kathy: "As you were about to tell me before we were so rudely interrupted."

Suddenly Margo comes along: "Gday Reb/Kathy, glad they let you out the pound."

Reb: "Gaffney, you backstabbing double crossing bitch why don't you rack off as well you're not wanted here anymore than Winter is."

Margo: "I'm sorry Reb, they made me do it, Marie and the Leach."

Reb: "Oh yeah,  you'd sell your best friend and own mother for one last fix , you make me sick Gaffney, now for the last time RACK OFF"

Margo: "Please Reb, I have a problem please listen to me."

Kathy: "Gaffney, what part of RACK OFF don't you understand, we're not interested in your story, so one final time RACK OFF do y'hear." Margo then leaves looking dejected, "You know if there's one thing I can't stand is a two-faced double crossing bitch no matter what the reason."

Reb: "Yeah, I know what you mean I definately won't make the same mistake twice and trust her ever again."

Kathy: "When I woke up in the pound after that crazy bitch layed into me the first thing I remembered was...

Kathy has just come home from school as she walks in the front door

Maggie: "You can wait upstairs in your room for your uncle to get home, he'll deal with you as soon as he gets here."

Kathy: "Why what did I do."

Maggie: "You and your brother never learn do you, do you think it's funny to keep putting sand into Desiree's sandwiches."

Kathy: "I did'nt put anything into them, she must have put it there herself."

Maggie goes up to Kathy and slaps her across the face: "How dare you call my daughter a liar, get out of my sight, I'll make sure your uncle really gives you the hiding of  your life when he gets back."

Kathy goes upstairs crying a few minutes later Desiree comes into the room they still share

Desiree smiling: "I told you mum would believe me instead of you, and now you're going to get a hiding from daddy when he comes home."

Kathy: "Yes I'm sure that makes you so happy does'nt it, you can do whatever you want and I always get the blame."

David Bates and his 2 friends Jack Murray and Stuart Granger are busy leaving the school grounds when David's cousin Jack and a couple of his friends come up to them Jack Bates indicates David and says to them

Jack B: "This is what I have to share my room with, a stupid ugly clumsy clutz."

Jack M: "Don't you ever get tired of singing the same old song, Bates."

Jack B: "I was'nt talking to you, Murray."

Stuart: "Yeah, I know you were just waffling on and on again were'nt you Bates, like a stuck record."

Jack B: "I can say whatever I want, whenever I want, to whoever I want so there Granger."

Stuart: "Yeah I'm sure you will Bates, but don't be surprised or complain if one minute youré standing up talking crap and the next minute your lying flat on your back with a broken jaw, now why don't you and your buddies rack off and leave us alone before I pop you one.

Jack B: "Yeah ok we're going" looking at David: " but just wait till you get home buster, you'll get for then I can tell ya." Jack and his friends walk away

Stuart: "Don't worry Davie, he and his mates won't start on you while you're with me and Jack, it was great last week when they came to pick a fight with us and we turned the tables on them and they got put in detention instead of us."

Jack: "Yeah it was classic was'nt it Davie." he then makes a move to clap David on the back but instead gets David on the top of his rear end, David jumps and winces in pain, "What's up Dave, I did'nt hit you that hard."

David: "Sorry Jack, its just that that bruise really hurts right now."

Stuart: "What did that prick cousin of yours mean when he said you'd get for when you get home, come on Davie something happened to you you've gotta tell us what it is, did your uncle do that to you."

David: "Yes, but there's nothing I can do about it, last year one of the teachers noticed a bruise on my back and I told them my uncle was beating me, when they came to see my Uncle and Aunt, my uncle and aunt told them I was lying and they were so convincing that the teacher believed them, when the teacher left my uncle beat me so bad I had to stay off school for a whole week, thats why Kathy and myself are absent so much only Kathy does'nt get it as bad sometimes when they give us hiding's its so bad that we have to take off school, they just phone the headmaster and tell him that we are sick."

Stuart: "OMG Davie thats bad as I've said before I'll talk to mum and dad about you staying over at weekends, Jack here can do the same, so at least you don't have to put up with them then."

David: "That would be neat, only problem is I'm scared for Kathy being alone in the house with them, only thing is If she could spend weekends with Maureen and Sandy then I'd go for it in a flash."

Jack: "Maybe we can get our mum's and dad's to talk to your uncle and aunt."

David: "Yeah, but please don't say anything to your mum and dad's about the beatings otherwise me and Kathy will really get it," he looks at Stuart's watch it's 5.00pm, "I've gotta get home, Ill see you guys tomorrow, promise me you won't say anything about this to anyone."

Stuart and Jack: "We promise, we'll see you tomorrow."

David: "Cheers guys, see you tomorrow." he then starts walking away fast in the direction of where he stays

Stuart to Jack: "We've gotta do something about this Jack, we can't let poor Davie get hidings like that anymore." the tears are running down both boys faces

David has just walked in the front door Phil is waiting for him

Phil: "Where the hell have you been."

David: "I'm sorry uncle Phil, I was playing with Jack and Stuart and we lost track of time."

Kathy: "Yeah we both got it alright, but somehow, some way after that day we were able to get away from them at weekends, I would spend weekends with either Maureen or Sandy and Davie would spend weekends with either Jack or Stuart, we used to dread having to go back to Phil's place on Sunday night though after having had such a fun weekend."

Reb: "Yeah, I can imagine my mum and dad did'nt beat us or nothing but I remember one day

8 years earlier 1977

There is a young boy and girl sitting at the breakfast table, the girl Reb Kean is about 12 years old, the boy Danny is 10 years old, we see Deidre Kean and her husband Douglas come into the kitchen

Deidre: "Have you almost finished your breakfast, the school bus will be ready in 30 minutes."

Reb: "We're almost finished Mum, but before we go Danny and I want to show you and dad something, we were so happy about it yesterday but by the time dad came home we had already gone to bed."

Deidre: "Alright Rebecca, but please hurry up as your dad has to leave for work very soon."

Reb to Danny: "Come on Danny lets show mum and dad," they both pick out a book from their schoolbags, they open up the book both Danny and Reb had scored 100% on a maths test they had done 3 days previously.

Deirdre looks at it appearing to be disinterested: "My that's very good Rebecca, and you too Daniel." she hands it over to Doug, he appears to be a lot more interested than his wife, he smiles

Doug: "Thats great , I'm so proud of both of you, tell you what how about we go out to celebrate Saturday, what do you say to that."

Reb and Danny: "That's great Dad, can we go to the fair Saturday."

Doug with a twinkle:"We'll see what your old dad can do, maybe we can even go..."

Deidre:"This is all very nice but maybe we can carry on with this conversation at dinner tonight, Harry you really have to be getting along to work now and so do I, Rebecca and Daniel carry on with your breakfast, Ill expect you to be ready in 10 minutes."

Doug gives both Reb and Danny a hug, says goodbye, Dierdre also leaves the room to get ready for work, both Reb and Danny look a little bit dejected by their mother's total lack of interest

Kathy: "So your old lady did'nt seem that interested in anything you and your brother did."

Reb: "The only interest the woman's ever had was how fancy she could dress and how much money she could make, I really thought things had changed between us when Lou and Lurch beat her senseless and I tried to make up, I tried to change them but she seems quite happy to let me rot in here forever, I know Miss Freeman has tried to get her to come a few times, but she keeps making excuses not to come."

Kathy: "Who knows she might still come for all it will be worth, maybe she really has a legit reason for not coming."

Reb: "Yeah and I can't wait to find out what it could be."

Just then the bell rings, the women are all heading inside Margo tries to approach Reb and Kathy again

Reb: "Rack off Gaffney."

Margo: "Please you've got to listen to me, I overheard the Leach and Winter planning to get you both chucked into the pound again, It won't happen today but it could happen in the next couple of days."

Reb looks around does'nt see a screw, punches Margo in the gut and pulls her into the nearest cell: "Ok Gaffney start talking."

Margo: "It's like this, the plan is to plant drugs in both yours and Kathy's cells and for there to be a cell search, getting you both a long stretch in the pound and extra time.""

Kathy: "I must say, I've gotta give the devil her due, she never stops trying, ok Gaffney thanks for the tipoff you can rack off now."

Margo: "If there's anything I can do to help let me know."

Reb: "Don't worry Gaffney, you owe us big time we'll let you know when the time comes, now as Kath said Rack off." Margo goes

Kathy: "We've gotta stop those bitches before this even gets started, I owe the Leach for that beating I took in the pound that day and I owe Winter for making it happen."

Reb: "Do you have something in mind."

Kathy: "I sure do, first thing is to get Winter a long stint in the pound, once she's there we'll deal with the Leach." just then Janet appears

Janet: "Why are you 2 malingering don't you have somewhere to go, the dinner bell will be going in 10 minutes, are'nt you both supposed to be on kitchen duty."

Kathy: "Oh yes, we forgot about that, sorry Mrs O'Connell."

Janet: "And you Kean, where are you supposed to be."

Reb: "Im supposed to be there as well."

Janet: "Well get to it then, the dinner won't miraculously become ready on its own you know, by the way Kean, Noeline Burke was transferred to Barnhurst Detention Centre a few minutes ago, so you'll have the cell to yourself at the moment, now please get moving or Ill put both of you on a charge."

They move towards the kitchen as they get there, Edwina is waiting for them: "Reb and Kathy will you please get to what you are supposed to be doing at once, you can only thank your lucky stars that leach woman has gone home for the day."

They don't need to be told twice

In Katherines office

Katherine: "Good afternoon, Mrs kean, this is Katherine Freeman, how are you doing."

Deidre: "Im fine thanks, what can I do for you Miss Freeman."

Katherine clearly stunned and looking irritated: "Mrs Kean have you given anymore thought about coming to see your daughter, she really needs you right now."

Deidre: "It's obvious you're not going to leave this matter alone, alright tell Rebecca I'll come and see her the day after tomorrow at 14h00, but I don't want the man I've just met finding out that I have a daughter in prison."

Katherine trying her utmost to keep her composure: "Don't worry Mrs Kean, there's no way I'd tell anyone about it, Im sure Rebecca would'nt either."

Deidre: "Ill be there at 14h00 day after tomorrow, it will be the last time I come there though.'

Katherine: "Thats fine, good day Mrs Kean, Ill let Reb know you are coming to see her."

Deirdre: "Goodbye Miss Freeman."

Katherine puts down the phone and mutters: "You really are one totally conceited, pious, stuck up,  self absorbed, self centred bitch."she then gets up from her chair and goes out the office she heads towards the kitchen, Reb is busy putting food on the plates

Edwina: "Good day Miss Freeman is there something I can do for you."

Katherine: "I'd just like to have a quick word with Reb Kean if thats allright thanks Mrs Blackmore."

Edwina: "Thats fine my dear, Reb?" Reb goes outside

Reb: "Whats up."

Katherine: "Your mother is coming to visit you the day after tomorrow at 14h00."

Reb: "Cool, so you managed to get a hold of her, thanks miss Freeman.'

Katherine: "Don't mention it, its part of my job."

Reb: "Yeah but thanks again, at least you get things done and you listen to people when they tell you something."

Katherine: "Anytime, anyway you better get back to work as I'm about to leave for the day,but I've still got work to do when I get home, like making arrangements to meet with Ray Proctor at the weekend."

Reb: "Thanks Ill see you tomorrow or so."

Katherine: "Ill keep you up to date with any further developments."

Reb: "No worries."she goes back into the kitchen, Katherine walks down the opposite end of the corridor

Katherine gets home, Harold is on the phone to Ann Reynolds

Harold: "Thats great Ann, Ill definately be there on Saturday, If she wants to come, Ill bring Katherine as well maybe even her boyfriend Jonathan Grant who is an officer so you can meet him."

Ann: "Thats lovely Harold, but I was hoping to spend some time alone with you."

Harold: "Dont worry my dear, we'll soon be rid of whatever interference may come our way, Ill personally see to it."

Ann: "Great I look forward to it."

Harold: "Not as much as I do, anyway see you Saturday, you take care of yourself till then."

Ann: "Bye Harold."

Harold: "Bye Ann" he puts down the phone sees katherine, "How do you fancy going to your aunt and Uncle Charlie again this weekend and bringing a certain handsome young man with us for  them to meet."

Katherine: "That's a great idea Dad, I'm sure Jon would love it there, besides I have business to take care of as well."

Harold: "Right it's settled then."

Later in the recroom, Reb and Kathy are playing cards suddenly ...

Reb: "OMG Kathy I've just realised something."

Kathy alarmed: "What is it."

Reb: "Now that Noeline's gone, that fat ugly freaked out psycho bitch can come into my cell anytime she likes and I can't do anything about it.'

Kathy gets up from the table fast and leaves the room she sees Margo, "Have you seen any screws about I need to talk to one right away."

Margo: "I saw Miss Carter a moment ago, she was talking to Mrs O' Connell down the next corridor."

Kathy: "Thanks Gaffney." she then turns the corner and sees Janet and Beverley walking towards the recroom

Janet: "Where do you think you're going Bates."

Kathy: "I was looking for an officer."

Janet: "Now you've found 2 officers who are on a tight schedule, I suggest you get yourself back to the recroom as we have an announcement to make as regards to some changes taking place in the prison."

Kathy goes back to the recroom, just moments later Janet and Beverley come in

Janet: "Where's Susan Short."

Kathy: "Susan's still on extra cleaning duties, Mrs O'Connell."

Janet looking highly irritated says to Beverly: "Would you please go get her at once Miss Carter and tell the supervising officer that the cleaning duties are over for the night," Beverley goes out the recroom, Janet still looking extremely irritated just waits till Beverley comes back with Susan, "Right now I hope there will be no further interruptions or delays, as from tonight there will be 2 officers on patrol outside every cell block, tonight It will be myself and Miss Carter patrolling this block so there had better not be any nonsense from any of you is that clear."

All: "Yes Mrs O'Connell."

Reb looks visibly relieved knowing Cynthia Leach won't be coming into her cell, at least not tonight

Reb is alone in the cell she shared with Noeline Burke her mind goes back to the day of the riot started by Marie Winter at Wentworth about 6 months ago and her being chucked over the rail, she also had a flashback to when Marie beat her while Joan Ferguson just looked on she smiles: "Don't worry you'll both get yours, I can't wait to see you swing Freak."

Susan: "Kath it was horrible, but the worst part of it all was they way she was touching me, it was as if she enjoyed making me squirm, ever since then I'm so scared in case she ever gets me alone."

Kathy: "Don't worry Suse, I've got big plans for the bitch when she gets back, by the time I'm through with her she won't be in any state to touch anyone again, I'm going to give her a taste of her own medicine with that baton."

Dot: "Just be careful, luv, you don't want to be caught."

Kathy: "Dot you worry too much, I have the whole thing planned out besides if the worst comes to the worst and I do get caught it'll be far worse for Leach than it would be were I not to get caught, so either way I win."

At Harold and Katherine's home

Jonathan: "I must say that sounds great Kath, going away with you this weekend, it's great for both of us to both be off duty at the same time, I must say I'm looking forward to meeting your Aunt/Uncle Charlie, as well as a bit of sightseeing."

Katherine: "That's sounds great, I'm glad you'll be with me, you'll get to meet Ray Proctor who's really a terrific person, shame I really feel for him as he blames himself for Reb being sent to Blackmoor."

Jonathan: "Kathy don't take this the wrong way, but Reb largely only has herself to blame for being sent to Blackmoor, what did'nt help her case was that she had Joan Ferguson on her back 24/7 and the fact that she was caught red handed assaulting other inmates, the only thing that can be done is to make sure Cynthia does'nt get a chance to hurt her anymore, it's amazing but the woman seems to come out smelling like a rose everytime."

Katherine: "I agree with everything you've said Jon, but at least Dad has made sure that Cynthia Leach won't be able to do just as she pleases anymore, I mean its going to be hard to antogonize the prisoners with another officer present."

Jonathan: "Speaking of which, guess which officer has to be on duty with her tomorrow night."

Katherine: "OMG Jon, oh well it gives you all the more reason to look forward to the weekend."

Jonathan: "The perils of being a screw, oh well I guess I've got to get home and start packing as I'm sure I won't be in the mood after working a shift with "you know who."

Katherine: "I must say I don't envy you one bit, I can't stand being near her for 5 seconds let alone a whole day, I must say it makes me love and miss you all the more."

Jonathan: "The only thing that makes it even remotely bearable is that I know I still have seeing you to look forward to afterwards, luckily when we get back the next shift is with Beverley, at least with Bev you can have a few laughs even if its not with you."

Katherine jokingly: "Maybe I can tell Dad I need an assistant, then we can be together all day."

Jonathan: "If only.., anyway I better go love, Ill see you tomorrow." he then gives her a long kiss, when finished

Katherine: "Im so looking forward to this weekend."

Jonathan: "Me too" he then gives her a final kiss, he then walks to his car, "If only you knew just how much I love you Katherine Freeman, I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you and I'll let you know that during this weekend."

The next morning

Reb is still in bed sleeping when the cell door is unlocked, Beverley comes in

Beverley: "Time to get up Kean." no response she goes over to the bed, "Come on Reb it's time to get up now."

Reb awakens: "What's up."

Beverley: " Did'nt you hear the bell, its 07h05 in the morning, you better get up right now before I put you on a charge."

Reb flies out of the bed: "Sorry about that Miss Carter, it's just that last night was the best nights sleep I've had in a long time."

Beverley: "Glad you slept well, now please get up and get moving at once before Mrs O'Connell comes looking for you."

Reb: "Yeah you're right." she gets her stuff together leaves the cell and heads to the shower block

Beverley walks alongside Reb looking a bit puzzled as they approach the shower block

Janet with undisguised sarcasm smiling: "Kean, how nice of you to join us at last," then her face changes and becomes grim " how would you like to do a few extra cleaning duties during your recreation period today to remind you of the schedule in here which incidently runs on our time not yours."

Beverley: "Sorry about the delay Mrs O'Connell, it was my fault I thought I saw something in one of the cells and told Kean to wait for me while I went to investigate it, as it turns out it was only an open cupboard door but the just the angle it appeared at as we walked past looked a bit strange to me so I was compelled to have a closer look at it."

Janet still looking irritated barks: "As if I dont have enough to contend with without one my officers having imaginary visions, get yourself to the queue Kean, come along Turner move a bit faster than you are right now, I certainly don't have all day and I'm fast losing patience with the lot of you."

Reb gives Beverly a grateful look and goes to join the queue looking relieved not to have had to think of an explanation to give Janet.

Janet and Beveley are standing at the door to the shower block talking, Beverley seems to be looking at Reb now and again looking extremely puzzled as she did not miss the relieved expression appearing on Reb Keans face the night before when it was announced that herself and Janet O' Connell were going to be on night duty together"

In the diningroom Reb, Dot, Susan and Kathy are at a table together, Marie and her cronies, Janie, Jenny and a couple of extra's, Margo is sat at a table with another extra

Kathy: "I've decided the time has come for Winter to do a stint in the pound for a while, anyone have any ideas, Reb.?"

Reb: "Yeah, great minds think alike there's almost nothing I'd like more than to see her get hers, only trouble is we've gotta make it good, perhaps even get her extra time as well."

Kathy: "Susie, Dot, any of you have any objections."

Dot: "I don't like to think bad of people or wish bad things on them, but in Marie's case I think it could be justified."

Susan: "The way I feel right now, Kath, I want Marie and the Leach to pay for what happened to me and you and Reb while you were in the pound."

Kathy: "Reb, Ill leave it up to you to come up with some way how to get back at Winter without them being able to pin it on us in any way, I'm still sore though, I think lets work out a plan first then implement it in a couple of day time ."

Reb: "Yeah, Im still aching in places myself." she picks up her fork and sticks it into the midlle of her eggs with force with one of her classic grins, "You bitch Winter, Ill make sure you ever stuffed around with us and once you're out the way I'll think of something for the ugly fat bitch screw, Don't worry the plan I'll have will be so good and all the arrows will be pointing in another direction instead."

Kathy: "Don't you worry about the Leach, I have my own very special plans for her, she's mine, no-one gets me like that when I'm out cold and lays into me the way she did, besides I'm more than a match for her, Ill have her flat on her back without so much as raising a sweat before she even starts to take a swing at me."

Reb: "Yeah, If you need any help then let me know, Id like to get the bitch myself."

Kathy: "Thats just the point, I don't want any of you getting mixed up with me getting Leach, don't take this the wrong way Reb, but physically none of you are a match for her, tell you what though I think it's high time I gave you all some lessons in self defence though, because the bitch is so cunning she'll think ways to get at you all the moment I'm out of the picture for 5 minutes if you so much as look at her the wrong way, look at what happened to Suse..."

Just then the bell goes

Janet: "Right , time for muster." All get up and leave the diningroom immediatley as Janet is clearly still in a bad mood

Later on in the staffroom, Cynthia has returned to duty, Jonathan is waiting for her as he is assigned to doing the next shift with her

Jonathan: "Good morning Miss Leach, I trust you had a good night's rest last night."

Jonathan: "I was only trying to be pleasant, I don't have an aversion to the sound of silence so it suits me fine, the less said, the better."

Just then Janet comes in still looking irritated: "Why are you both still in the staffroom and not on active duty which is supposed to have started 10 minutes ago, it's bad enough trying to get the inmates to go according to the schedule in here without having to go looking for the officers that don't bother keeping to the schedule."

Cynthia: "Sorry, Janet I've only just got in, the bus left a bit late this morning."

Janet: "Well ,now that you're here at last will you get to your duties at once, please." both Cynthia and Jonathan clear out of there immediately just then Beverley comes in and goes to her locker to get her bag.

Beverley: "Thank goodness we can go home now."

Janet: "I could'nt agree more, listen Beverley I'm sorry if I was bad tempered last shift, it's just that having 2 officers patrolling together when short staffed is very stressful, I've been on duty for 2 whole shifts already so I'm dead beat."

Beverley: "It's fine Mrs O'Connell, I know we have to accept these new measures until they can send us more staff."

Janet: "Whenever that may be, are you ready to leave, perhaps I can give you a lift home if you want."

Beverley: "That'll be great, save me some time waiting for the next bus to come."

Janet: "Let's go then." they leave, later in the car just outside Beverley's flat

Beverley: "Mrs O'Connell, did you notice the look on Kean's face last night when you announced that 2 officers were going to be on patrol from now on last night."

Janet: "No, I did'nt I was only anxious to get them to bed, why was there something I should have seen."

Beverley: "She seemed extremely tense until you announced that you and I were going to be on duty last night."

Janet: "I confess I did'nt pay particular attention to Kean's facial expression last night, but I personally think she could have been extremely relieved that Cynthia Leach was'nt going to be on duty last night, that's why we have to have 2 officers on patrol at all time, its seems as if the woman has taken it upon herself to go terrorise certain women in the prison in the middle of the night ."

Beverley: "That's so shocking, why is Miss Leach still working there then, why has'nt she been dismissed."

Janet grimacing: "The woman is as slippery as an eel and somehow/someway she manages to cover her tracks everytime, even on the rare occasion that she has been caught red handed in the act she has still managed to pull the rug out from under the person at the last moment and come out of the whole thing unscathed and smelling like a rose each and every time."

Beverley: "OMG, how will she ever be caught and banished from the prison service."

Janet grimly: "Seemingly only by some miraculous intervention from above which as far as Im concerned will never be a moment too soon, Im afraid."

Beverley is speechless.

Cynthia and Jonathan are on patrol at the kitchen door, Jonathan is looking very uncomfortable, Cynthia is looking even more bad tempered and dangerous than normal, everything is silent in the kitchen as all are going about their business, suddenly

Edwina with a huge grin on her face: "Mr Grant, have you heard any funny jokes lately, I think we can all do with a good laugh."

Jonathan: "Come to think of it, there was one excellent joke I heard..."

Cynthia: "That will be enough, Mr Grant you're here to be on duty with me, Mrs Blackmore you're supposed to be getting a meal prepared, there's no time for idle banter."

Edwina: "Come on Miss Leach, it does'nt cause any harm to have a good laugh now and again, it sure looks like you could use one yourself." The women all burst out laughing, Jonathan and Edwina are laughing as well

Cynthia face slowly turning purple with rage roars: "That's enough, how dare you, get back to your duties at once and there will be recreation period today, you'll all be on extra duties instead, Kean erase that smirk from your face before I come and erase it for you permanently." Everyone stops laughing immediately and carries on with their work instead, visibly nervous as no one missed the pure venomous menacing way Cynthia addressed Reb including Jonathan and Edwina

Kathy standing next to Reb muttering under her breath so softly only Reb can hear it: "Bugger tomorrow or the day after, that bitch will get hers today I've suddenly found an inspiration I did'nt even know I had till now, then suddenly louder, " just watch and wait and see what happens."

Cynthia: "Did you say something, Bates."

Kathy: "Yes I did, what do you intend to do about it."

Cynthia: "I said no talking in here."

Kathy: "Oh my golly geez, is that a new rule that's suddenly been enforced, last I heard there was no rule that said we could'nt talk in here, Mr Grant is she right, did the rules suddenly change between last night and today."

Jonathan admiring Kathy: "I haven't heard anything about any rule changes, Kathy."

Cynthia: "You will address the prisoner as Bates, not Kathy."

Jonathan: "Is that also a new rule I haven't heard about as well, oh my goodness, did I get stuck in a timewarp somehow." everyone bursts out laughing including Reb, Cynthia says nothing but her face has turned from the shade of purple it already was to an even darker shade of purple, once everyone has stopped laughing about 3 minutes later

Kathy: "Dear me Miss Leach, you must have had real trouble sleeping last night, dare I say you woke in in the middle of the night last night in a cold sweat, thinking of how you would like the rules to be changed the way you would like them to be changed and thinking they were implemented when you got here, only to find out they were'nt."  everyone roars with laughter again except Cynthia after a couple of minutes

Cynthia to Jonathan: "If you can bear to take that smirk off your face, Id like to go patrol the laundry now if you don't mind." she turns on her heel, Jonathan to all in the kitchen before he follows Cynthia: "Well whatever happens the rest of today, it was worth it being able to have such a good laugh, wish me luck."

All: "Good luck, Mr Grant." after Jonathan leaves the mood becomes more quiet and everyone gets back to their respective duties, now and again someone has a quiet giggle, especially at the mental image of Cynthia's sheer rage at Kathy.

In the corridor, Jonathan has caught up to Cynthia

Cynthia: "How dare you participate with the scum in there laughing at my expense, Ill make you regret it Grant."

Jonathan: "Oh really, in what way were they laughing at your expense, Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Bates was deliberately trying to make a fool out of me and you actively encouraged her."

Jonathan: "Come on now, she was only rightly pointing out that the rules in here haven't been changed in any way, since you and I were last on duty."

Cynthia slaps Jonathan once hard across the face then tries to slap him again, as she is about to strike him the second time he grabs her hand pinning her and says: "Since you're a lady I won't hit you back, but you only get one shot a day at it I'm afraid and you've just had yours, so I suggest you get your act together before someone comes here asking a whole lot of questions I don't feel like answering." he lets Cynthia go she marches on ahead of him still fuming but saying nothing still visibly fuming they appear at the door to the laundry where the women are having a smoko

Cynthia roaring: "Just what in the hell is going on in here."

The sound of silence reigns for about 15 seconds then...

At reception Deidre Kean has just arrived to see her daughter Reb

Cynthia: "I said, just what in the hell is going on in here."

Marie looking rather nervous: "We were just having a smoko Miss Leach,"to the others, "right you lot back to the grindstone."

Cynthia: "Its amazing, no matter whenever I come in here, you're always on smoko."her face is still a dark shade of purple, she walks over and inspects everything then turns on Marie: "You're all on a charge for malingering and insubordination."

Marie: "Hey come on, that's not fair were entitled to a break too you know."

Cynthia: "Shut up Winter, don't play me for a fool, I come in here at 11h15 and expect more than 5 folded sheets and one wash cycle on the go, do I look like a fool to you, are you calling me blind and stupid."

Marie: "No, Miss Leach it's just that the one machine was faulty."

Jonathan: "Why did'nt you report it then."

Marie: "I would have if I could have, but the security gates were locked."

Jonathan to Cynthia: "It looks like the women could'nt progess any further with a faulty machine and the security gates being locked after all."

Cynthia gives Jonathan a cold stare and says: "I'll be the judge of that." she walks over to the machines and sets the cycles, both machines are working: "Just as I would have thought and expected, both machines are working fine, not only do the charges for malingering and insubordination remain, but you'll all be on additional cleaning duties during your recreation period for the next 3 days, unless you have some explanation as to why the machines that were'nt working before are suddenly working now."

Marie: "Jeez what can I say, it's a miracle, struth the thing was buggered before and Miss Leach fixed it up with a magic touch, come along girls, lets all give Miss Leach a big cheer for fixing the machine" all laugh and clap hands

Cynthia snaps: "Don't test my patience Winter, or you'll find yourself in the pound."

Everyone is silent and gets back to work, Cynthia still looking enraged, Jonathan looking a bit uncomfortable

Deidre:"Ive come to see my daughter, Rebecca Kean."

Officer: "You must be Deirdre Kean, Ill call Miss Freeman, she's expecting you."

In the kitchen

Reb to Kathy: "It was great to see the fat ugly bitch mad as hell and her not being able to do a thing about it, Jeez I've never hated a screw as much as I hate her, she even makes the Freak look good."

Kathy: "Yeah, well we still owe her for the bashings we copped in the pound."

Reb: "Yeah, I'd like nothing more than for that bitch to suffer, like she made me suffer, she hit me in places I never knew existed before and when I woke up, my whole body and head was hurting like hell."

Kathy grimly: "Don't I know it, when I came back from knocked out cold, I was aching in all places too, got any plans to cause a diversion so we can pay her back."

Reb: "Yeah, the thing is to get her alone, give me a chance to think."

Just then an officer appears at the door

Officer: "Your mother is here to see you, Kean."

Reb: "Well what do you know, she finally decided to come.."

Officer: "Come along, I don't have all day, your mother is with the social worker right now."

Reb: "Fine, lets go then."

At the door to Katherine's office, the Officer accompanying Reb knocks at the door

Katherine: "Come in."

Reb and the Officer go inside, Katherine is sitting at her desk, Deirdre is sitting apposite her

Katherine: "Thanks Officer Mason, Ill let you know when we've finished." once the officer leaves to Reb, "Hi Reb, they were going let you have your visit outside with your mother, only your mother wanted to have her visit in my office."

Reb to Deirdre: "Mum I'm glad you came to see me, lets go outside in the fresh air, I've got lots of things to tell you," she throws her arms around Dierdre who does'nt seem to be responding to Reb's hug, realising this Reb abruptly turns away and looks at both Katherine and Dierdre, Katherine is looking upset, Dierdre is looking agitated

Reb: "Ok whats up, something's wrong is'nt here"

Katherine still looking upset "Your mother has something to tell you and she wanted me to be present."

Reb to Deirdre:"So do I get to hear it whilst I'm still young or do I have to wait until I'm as old as you before you finally get round to telling me, if you've got something to say, spit it out."

Deidre:"Rebecca, I won't be coming back to see you ever again after today, this will be my last visit to this prison."

Reb: "Why?, is the trip too far for you,it's not as if you would have to come every week y'know once every 3 weeks would also be fine."

Deidre: "Rebecca, I've met a man who is extremely wealthy and who a very respected businessman who is well known internationally and who travels abroad a lot, he has asked me to marry him and I've said yes."

Reb: "So when do I get an invite to this wedding." she looks straight at Deirdre and fully realises something, "You were'nt gonna give me an invite were you, I bet you haven't even told him you have a daugher, did you."

Deirdre: "No not yet, try to understand, I've finally met a man who can give me all I've ever wanted or needed, I just don't know how he'd react to me having a daughter in prison, I just need a little more time to explain it to him."

Reb: "Oh Yeah, I understand allright, you're ashamed of me which means all your promises you made to me when we were together in the other dump were all just lies and empty words, but dont worry lady, the feelings mutual I dont have a mother so I'd say were even, so now you've come to say what you've got to say, why don't you rack off out of here, you make me sick."

Deirdre:"Rebecca try to understand.."

Reb: "What's to understand, from your little speech its clear that you're the same money hungry grabbing bitch you always were, I don't want to hear anymore of your crap do you hear." to Katherine "Could you please call an officer so I can get out of here now, sitting in the same room as her and listening to her crap is making me sick."

Katherine picks up the phone says to Reb: "An officer will be along in 5 minutes."

Deirdre: "Rebecca, please try to understand."

Reb: "Why don't you just keep your trap shut, if I have to spend 5 minutes in a room with you it would be nice not to have to listen to your bull as nothing you have to say interests me."

Katherine: "Mrs Kean, I think it would be best if you did'nt say anything more until the officer arrives and you are at reception."

Deirdre: "If you don't mind I'd like to speak to my daughter."

Reb to Deirdre: "Lady are you deaf, I dont wanna hear any of your bull****, listen Miss Freeman, if this is gonna take long then I'll just wait outside the door till the screw comes back." just then Reb gets up slams the door shut.

Inside Katherine's office

Deirdre: "I just wish I could make Rebecca understand.?"

Katherine: "Please forgive me if this sounds rude, but I tend to view the situation the same way Reb does as I also fail to understand how you can push your own daughter in the background just so you can run off with some man with lots of money, especially after all that she's been through and she's not having an easy time of it in here, has the thought ever occurred to you that she may need you more than ever."

Deirdre: "How dare you stand there in judgement of me and tell me what I should or should'nt do, as if you have any children of your own, Rebecca made her choice long ago and now she's facing the consequences for her actions, I can hardly be blamed if she keeps getting into trouble and the law decides to deal with her however they see fit."

Katherine: "I don't need to tell you what or what you should'nt do Mrs Kean, I'm sure you've already made up your mind long ago and as always will do exactly what you've always wanted to do anyway, regardless of anyone else's feelings but your own."

Deirdre: "You can't speak to me like that, Ill make certain your superiors hear of this."

Katherine: "How you want to take what I've just told me is entirely your prerogative, my main concern is for Reb and what's she's going through, feel free to take whatever steps you may feel are neccessary, don't be surprised though if you find that nothing may come of your imaginary indignation of me enlightening you up to a few homegrown truths, you may find my superiors in full agreement with what I've just told you."

Just then Officer Mason comes back

Officer: "What are you doing outside the office, Kean"

Reb: "Waiting for you."

Officer: "Why arent you still in the office."

Reb: "I felt like some fresh air, the air was too stuffy in there so I came outside."

Officer: "Wait here," she knocks on the door and goes inside

Katherine: "Officer Mason, would you please take Mrs Kean back to reception and send Reb Kean back inside."

Just then Officer Mason comes out with Deidre saying to Reb: "Miss Freeman would like to see you again."

Reb walks past Deirdre ignoring her and goes into Katherine's office

Katherine: "I'm so sorry about this Reb, I tried to make her see but she's too self centred and self absorbed to see anything but what she wants and what's right for her."

Reb: "Yeah, I should have known that a leopard can never change it's spots, she's always been an uptight money grabbing self centred bitch, I must have been blind and stupid to think she could ever change, it's just when I saw her lying on the floor out cold at Wentworth thinking she was dead, I had a glimmer of hope that maybe deep down she did care for me after all, I mean she got me out of the hospital and even risked going to the nick herself to get me to a doctor, one I gave her power of attorney on my account she had what she wanted, and what I suspected all along was true, she never has and never will give a stuff about me, she has'nt even stayed long enough to hear about the hell that fat ugly bitch Leach has put me through ever since I got here."

Katherine: "I must say that in my job I have to remain impartial, but I have to admit your mother pushed me beyond the limits of endurance and I said things to her I ordinarily would never dream of saying to anyone."

Reb: "Yeah, what did you tell her."

Katherine: "Basically what you told her, only in a much more professional and polite way, but she still got the picture nevertheless I'm sure."

Reb: "I can't believe she would just leave me to rot in this hole while she's painting the town red with some high faluting businessman."

Katherine: "I do have a bit of good news for you, I'm going to be meeting with Ray Proctor again in a couple of days time about that letter you composed to keep Joan Ferguson in line, maybe I can arrange for him to come and see you here, if you would like."

Reb: "Yeah, if you could arrange a meeting with him, it would be great, besides we have to make sure that our stories match up if ever we want to get that Freak Ferguson."

Just then Officer Mason comes back and knocks on Katherine's door: "Time to take Kean back to work now."

Katherine: "Thanks, Reb I'll let you know what happens."

Reb: "Thanks a lot, Miss Freeman."

Back in the kitchen, Reb has just come in

Kathy: "Yo Reb, how did the visit with your mum go."

Reb: "Just as I would have expected it to have gone a year ago, Mrs B is there anything you want me to do."

Edwina: "Would you mind giving Dot a hand with the salad."

Reb: "Fine."

Dot: "Are you alright luv."

Reb: "I'm fine all I'd just like a bit of peace and quiet if you don't mind."

Dot: "No worries."

After a couple of minutes, Kathy picks up a beetroot and hold its up

Kathy: "Just think that this was the colour the Leach's face was when we last saw it." all burst out laughing except Reb

Reb: "Why don't you all just shut it, jeez I can't even concentrate with the bloody racket in here."

Kathy: "I guess I must have lost my touch or got out of bed on the wrong side, that was supposed to be funny and it was meant to make you laugh."

Reb: "Yeah, well I'm sorry I don't have much of a sense of humour right now, just rack off and leave me alone ok."

Kathy: "I'm sorry, I did'nt realise the visit with your mum was so bad, what happened."

Reb: "I don't want to talk about it OK, at least not right now, maybe later."

Kathy: "No worries Reb," to the others," perhaps we best stop the carry on and get back to work, last thing we want is for the Leach to come back and we're all behind with the work, I'm sure after just now, she's on a mission to throw any sort of trumped up charge again'st us."

All get on with their work, a few minutes later Cynthia and Jonathan appear at the door

Cynthia: "I wonder how long you've all been pretending to be working hard at getting the meal prepared, how convenient."

Kathy: "Yeah, well you see its like this, I have this little fly on the wall that lets me know when you're about to turn up in here, just so that we can stop fooling around and get the meals prepared on time."

Cynthia glares at Kathy: "Are you trying to be clever, Bates."

Kathy: "Not at all Miss Leach, every time you come in here you've jumped to the conclusion that we,ve spent all our time in here loafing and malingering so why not appease you by letting you think your assumptions were right, even if we do spend a lot of time having a laugh and carrying on the meals are always prepared on time, so why should you have such a big problem with us having a little fun and a few laughs now and again."

Cynthia: "I've had about enough of your insolence as I'm about to take Bates, you're on an insubordination charge and will report to the officer on duty during your recreational period for extra cleaning duties, if you want any additional charges or to end up with another stint in solitary, just carry on the way you are."

Kathy sees Cynthia means business and quickly gets back to work

Cynthia: "Anyone with something clever to add, no I did'nt think so."

In the diningroom

Kathy and Reb, Susan and Dot are sitting at a table, Marie and her cronies are sitting together as well as a couple of extras, Beverley and Janet are on kitchen duty

Reb: "At least I don't have to look at the Leach's ugly face while I'm eating."

Susan: "What uglier than her face are having her ugly paws all over your body, I still get the chills just thinking about it.

Kathy: "Yeah I know Susie, when I egged the fat bitch on earlier, it backfired on me and now I've copped extra cleaning duties instead."

Reb: "I really want to get that bitch, even more than I want to get the Freak."

Kathy: "The thing is the screws are always in pairs now, who knows they may even go to the dunnies holding one another hands."

Reb: "The thing is to get the Leach on her own somewhere, thats it we wait till she needs to go to the dunny and then we get her."

Kathy: "Great thinking Reb, when we get her, we'll give her a taste of her own medicine."

Reb: "The thing is the planning and timing has to be right, leave it up to me to work out the details, I'll let you all know what I come up  with in the morning."

Susan: "I can't wait to see what plan you come up with Reb."

Kathy: "The bitch is off duty now, but no worries, tommorrows always another day."

Reb: "Yeah and what a day its gonna be, you'll get yours you fat ugly sadistic bitch Leach."

At Harold and Katherine's home

Katherine is on the phone

Katherine: "Hi Ray this is Katherine Freeman how are you doing."

Ray: " Hi Katherine I'm ok, how nice to hear from you again, how are you."

Katherine: "Im alright Ray, but something unpleasant happened at the prison today, Reb's mother came to see her and it was an absolute disaster."

Ray: "Oh poor Reb, what exactly is it that happened today, what did Reb's mother do."

Katherine: "She basically told Reb that she was going to marry some wealthy businessman and that she was'nt going to come see Reb anymore."

Ray: "Thats so terrible, she left Reb all alone just so she can run off with some man with a lots of money."

Katherine: "Yes Ray she did and I did something I've never done before, would never have dreamed of doing before, I told her exactly what I think of her."

Ray: "What you said to that horrible selfish woman could'nt have been as bad as what I would say to her if I ever see her."

Katherine grimly: "I would'nt be too sure of that Ray, I did'nt mince my words with her and can quite honestly say that if my Dad was'nt the governor I most certainly would have been fired by now for what I said to her."

Ray: "Good on you Katherine, Im glad you told her off."

Katherine: "For whatever good it seems to have done though, some people are just so hard, self centred and beyond reach, anyway one of the reasons I called was to confirm that my fiance Jonathan and I will be at your place at 19h30 tomorrow night, I just need to confirm the address....., great see you then, you take care."

Ray: "You take care too Katherine, look forward to seeing you and meeting Jonathan as well, Bye."

Katherine hangs the phone up, Harold has just walked into the lounge

Harold appearing to be stern: "Not too long ago I received a phone call from the HOD and found myself having to do some fast explaining regarding a scene between yourself and a Mrs Deirdre Kean at the prison today in your office, Mrs Kean claims you were extremely unprofessional and rude and abrupt with her, what do you have to say for yourself."

Katherine: "Dad, don't you start, that woman has had it coming for a long time, do you know she's abandoned her daughter just so that she can run off with some man with mountains of money, I know I should have remained impartial but I was just so overwhelmed with her self centredness and told her exactly what I thought of her."

Harold smiling: "Come give your old Dad a hug."she goes to him, "I'm very proud of you, the women are very lucky to have a social worker like you that really cares, you've inherited your mothers caring nature, God rest her soul, that's one of the things that made me fall in love with her."

Kathy has just finished the extra cleaning duties she was assigned to and is on her way back to her cell when she walks past Reb's cell and notices Reb lying on the bed facing the ceiling she goes into the cell

Kathy: "Reb, what happened when your old lady came to see you today."

Reb: "She lied to me at Wentworth when she said things had changed between us."

Kathy: "When is she coming to see you again," no answer, "OMG, she's not coming to see you again, that's it is'nt it, did she say why."

Reb: "She met some businessman that she's gonna marry with lots of money and is too ashamed to tell him that she has a daughter in the hole."

Kathy: "What a self centred, self absorbed, pious arrogant stuck up bitch, at least Davie and I knew a mother's love even if it was just for 10 years before we faced that nightmare with Phil and his family, Reb, I'm so sorry, I really thought she had changed after what you both went through."

Reb: "That's what I get for hoping something will change that can't be changed, Kath a leopard can't change it's spots how could I have been so blind and stupid to think she could or ever would change."

Just then Janie and Jenny come into the cell

Reb: "Yeah, well what do you 2 want."

Janie: "Marie wants to talk to you and Bates."

Reb: "If Winter wants to talk to us, she can come to us we're not gonna run after her, now that you've given the message from her and got my message back to her, why don't you rack off, you make me sick."

Janie: "We heard the 2 of you chatting, it was very entertaining I must say.'

Reb moves towards Janie and punches her in the gut, she lands a blow in the right place as Janie immediately doubles over with pain, Reb punches her again and pins her up against the wall, "If I hear one word more from you about this, Ill come after you and finish what I started, get it,"she punches Janie again, "I said get it, you bitch."Janie nods, "Right now you and your fat friend can rack off and give Winter my message." they leave the cell

Kathy: "I must say I'm very impressed, Reb, you sure told them off and gave them what for and I did'nt have to lift a finger to help."

Reb: "Im not in the mood to be screwed around with by the likes of Winter and her stooges right now, anyone that looks for **** is gonna get it."

Kathy: "No doubt Winter may be on her way here soon enough though, about what we were talking about before we were so rudely interrupted by those 2 galars, Reb although it hurts like hell, you did the right thing by choosing to forgive your mother after all those years of her being so self centred, believe me I know from experience that shutting people out and not letting them get close to you may save you from being hurt and feeling pain, but you will never be truly happy unless you learn to trust someone, I found that out the hard way and almost too late."

Reb: "Look Kathy I know what you're getting at and that you're tryng to make me feel better, who knows I may get over it in a couple of days time, but right now I'd rather be by myself, if you don't mind, Ill talk to you in the morning."

Kathy: "Sure thing, anytime, you know where to find me, Ill be in my cell, if Winter decides to come and make trouble just yell and I'll be there on the double, if not take care and Ill see you in the morning."

Reb: "Thanks Kath, sleep well."

Kathy: "You too, night Reb."

At lockup all the women are in their cells, Beverley and Terry are on duty, Terry appears at Reb's cell

Terry: "I see you're ready for bed Kean, good night."

Reb: "Yeah, night.'

A few minutes after the cell door is locked the lights go out, Reb is in bed sleeping

Late one evening in 1977

Reb and her brother Danny have gone running into the woods, Danny falls over and hurts his knee, there is a gushing wound and blood is pouring from the wound

Danny is crying: "Reb it's really sore, I don't think I can get up."

Reb: "Please Danny, try to get up I'll help you walk but I don't think I can carry you all the way home."

After a few seconds Danny manages to get on his feet and is limping badly holding onto Reb, Danny is trying hard to be brave and not to cry after what seems a very long time, they finally manage to get out of the woods, but it is turning dark very quickly after about 10 minutes they get home.



Deirdre: "Just where exactly have you been Rebecca, you were supposed to be home half an hour ago."

Reb: "I'm sorry Mum, Danny's hurt himself badly, please come quick."

Deirdre comes rushing out and sees the gaping wound on Danny's right knee, "OMG Daniel, what happened, quickly Rebecca, go get my car keys we've got to get Daniel to a doctor immediately, Reb gets the keys, they get into the car, Deirdre gets the keys and drives quickly out of the driveway.

Later at home after Danny has been to the doctor and received stiches to the wound and is in bed, Deirdre has just kissed him goodnight and says: "You sleep well and remember mummy loves you lots." she closes the door and heads in the direction of Reb's room she goes in and slams the door shut

Deirdre: "Now young lady, unless you have a good reason for being in those woods after me telling you explicitly not to go there, not only will you get the hiding of your life but you'll be grounded for a month, well I'm waiting."

Reb: "Im sorry mum, Danny saw a bunny moving into the woods and he started chasing after it, by the time I caught up to him he had already fallen over the rock." Reb starts crying, "I'm really sorry Mum."

Deirdre: "Since it was an accident, you're off the hook, but in future I expect you to keep a closer eye on your brother," she turns to go out of the room, "Goodnight Rebecca."

Reb still crying : "Goodnight Mum." after the door has closed whispers: "Why don't you love me mummy, the way I love you and why don't you give me a kiss and a hug like you always give Danny."

Reb wakes up in a cold sweat whispering: "Face it Deidre, you've never loved me, who knows you've probably never loved anyone but yourself , there was once a time when I loved you very much and would have done anything for you but not anymore..."
