Prologue


Rebecca Kean is in solitary at Wentworth Detention Centre when she hears the solitary cell door unlock and Joan Ferguson "The Freak" enters.........

Reb....whatever I am, whatever I've done I've never hid behind the law the way you do, You're a joke Ferguson, you don't have the guts to face anyone without that uniform.

Joan walks towards Reb and takes her black gloves off

Joan: Well Kean, you're off to Blackmoor in the morning, but thats not the end oh no your troubles are just starting, Joan walks out the cell and locks it behing her looking through the peephole, " You see I have some very good friends as Blackmoor that will make you feel real welcome

Reb lunges at Joan and grabs her through the bars, "Well im not finished yet bitch, Ill be back, Ill be back for you, you hear me.

Joan closes the peephole and looks worried.............

Later we see her making a phone call from home a womans voice on the other end answers
"Blackmoor Detention Centre"

Joan: "May I please speak to Cynthia Leach

Voice: Hold the line please, I will transfer you

We see Joan holding on, another older woman's voice answers"Staffroom"

Joan: Is that Cynthia Leach

Cynthia: Speaking

Joan: Hi Cynthia, it's Joan Ferguson how are you doing

Cynthia: Hello Joan Im well, how are you what can I do for you

Joan: Im fine you see Cynthia, it's like this I've just managed to convince the governor to transfer one of the biggest troublemakers we've ever had here, why she even tried to blackmail me but I got the better of her, anyway she's on her way to you she should be there sometime tomorrow

Cynthia: I think I know what you want me to do, you want me to give her a real Blackmoor welcome, right, by the way what is our little friends name

Joan: Kean, Reb Kean and yes I would like her to receive a warm welcome when she gets there

Cynthia: Consider it done, you take care now, Bye

Joan: Thanks Cynthia, I owe you, bye

The next day, the three inmates from Woodridge are working in the garden and see the cop car estcorting Reb Kean to Blackmoor...............

 Reb Kean is sitting at the back of the police van estcorting her to Blackmoor, thinking about her conversation with the freak, she was going to pay ber back somehow, the bitch had just waited for this opportunity to get her shipped out of here, she almost wished she had let her fall to her death on the stairwell but she could never commit cold blooded murder, she wondered what the freak meant with her parting words, "I have some very good friends at Blackmoor that will make you feel real welcome." She began to wonder just what kind of a place Blackmoor was and what type of friends the freak had there. Just then a thought occured to her, what if Marie Winter were still there, she owed Winter for that bashing, oh yes she was going to get her revenge on Winter if it was the last thing she did. She was so lost in her thoughts of revenge that she did not see that the cop van had just stopped outside a building that said BLACKMOOR DETENTION CENTRE....................

The driver of the police van gets out and unlocks the back where Reb Kean is sitting, "Right out you get"

Reb: "What, are we here already"

Policeman:"That's what I said, better not keep them waiting if you don't get out of there soon they will personally send someone to get you and from what we've seen its not very pleasant when they get you out themselves they drag you kicking and screaming to one of the buildings opposite, I think they call it the pound."

Reb gets out takes a look:"What a dump, it seems to be in the middle of nowhere."

Policeman 2: Yeah, you're right it is in the middle of nowhere and there is no way you can escape from here, take a good look around you

Reb takes a good look around and sees armed guards patrolling the roof as well as the perameter of the fence but says, "All I see is being shipped out of some ugly dump to an even uglier dump, so what."

Just then  2 screws appear, the one is  a woman with an ugly scar running from the corner of her right eye all the way down her throat she is approximately 50 years of age, the second is a man with dark brown hair and a moustache approximate age 35.

The woman has a nasty cruel face and says to the cop on Reb's right, "Is this one here giving you any problems.

Policeman 1: No Miss Leach, we were just on our way to reception with the prisoner now

Off Leach looking at the other officer" ok Mr Walters lets sign for the prisoner and let the officers go", they then sign the papers and the cops get into the van and leave she then looks at Reb with an evil expression on her face, " Ok lets move it or do you need an engraved invitation."

Reb: Where to

Off Walters grabs Reb roughly"Miss Leach gave you an order" and starts to drag her towards the main building

Reb:" Hey, take your hands off me you ugly bastard screw", he grabs her by the hair, she kicks him hard in the shins, but he elbows her in the gut and she goes down and is holding herself in agony

Walters: "looks like we have a wildcat on our hands Cynthia, what should we do, should we let her cool her heels in the pound

We see Cynthia walking over to and standing over Reb for about 10 seconds she then kicks her in the side and says, "GET UP"

Reb somehow manages to get on her feet, and says with a bravado she doesnt feel"So that's what the freak meant by a warm Blackmoor welcome, 2 bent screws come to use me as a punching bag before I'm even inducted."

Cynthia:"Move it now or you'll find yourself in the pound

Reb:"Lucky me I'm surprised im not there already, what do you want me to do thank you?"

Terry: Move it Kean, it just so happens we are in a generous mood today, so move it before we change our minds.

We then see them going to reception another officer is on duty, Cynthia says to her, its fine Miss O'Connor we will do the induction, the other officer leaves reception.

Cynthia: "Right you on the white line"

Reb:"Where's the white line

Terry grabbing Reb roughly and almost dragging her, "here, now stand on the white line."

Cynthia:"Your name is Rebecca Kean and you have been transferred form Wentworth Detention Centre for assaulting an officer and for the trafficking of illicit drugs, is that right

Reb shrugging"Yes so what"

Cynthia goes up to Reb looks at her and gives her a backhander Reb goes down, Cynthia grabs her by her hair pulls her to her feet and says,"Oh but here you will learn to toe the line Kean or you will be severely punished, I can have you in the pound so fast you wont know whats hit you, oh and don't think you can run to the governor with fairy tales about officers bashing you, because unlike where you came from, the governor here happens to respect the words of his officers over scum like yourself, now we will go over it again and I better see a vast improvement in your attitude, you hear me Kean we can do this the easy way or the hard way, she then goes back over the induction process and reads the charges this time Reb answers properly and then taken to the shower block and led to her new cell, when she reaches the cell she looks in shock at the other occupant of the cell none other than Marie Winter..............................

Episode 1

Marie: "G'day Reb"

Reb: "You just keep away from me Winter"

Marie: "Come now Reb is that any way to treat an old mate of yours."

Reb:"You ain't no mate of mine, you bitch after what you did to me."

Cynthia:" Now, now Kean it's not nice to hear to speak to your old friend's like that, looks like Winter is going to have to teach you some manners." she then locks the door to Marie and Reb's cell and walks away from the cell door

Reb: "Im warning you Winter, you come near me and you'll get it I've had a gutful already and i'll plaster you against the wall if you come any closer."

Marie approaching Reb slowly: " Like the leach said, Im gonna teach ya some manners," she walks towards Reb and takes a swing, Reb is ready for her and ducks Marie's blow at the same time punching Marie in the kidney's, Marie goes down, Reb jumps on top of Marie and starts punching her in the face, she grabs Marie by the hair and is about to bang Marie's head on the floor when she gets a momentary flashback to when she hit Phyllis Hunt over the head with a wooden statue, Reb releases her hold on Marie and says:"You ever come near me again and I swear I'll kill you, get it.", she then hits Marie hard across the face.

Marie: "Ok you win, let me up."

Reb:  "I always knew that  you could never win a fight one on one but you always need your lackeys to help you do your dirty work for you, now you've just proved what a gutless wonder you really are."

Marie: " I don't have it in for you, the leach told me to give you a bashing that's why she locked the door and walked away, please let me up."

Reb releases her hold on Marie after giving her another punch in the gut,"Yeah I guess that explains why the bitch never wanted to put me in the pound when I first got here, I guess the freak must have told her to put the wind up me and so she thought she'd get you to bash me, only thing was she never figured was that it would take more than just you to get me and that you would need your bunch of cronies as well."

Just then the cell door unlocks and Cynthia walks into the cell she seems momentarily dumbstruck as she sees Marie looking clearly dishevelled but says to Marie:"So did you manage to teach Kean some manners, Winter."

Marie: "Yes Miss Leach, everythings ok, I think Kean understands how things are run now."

Cynthia: "Right off to work and Kean you are assigned to work in the laundry with Winter today, she'll show you what to do, and don't get too cosy, Im sure the governor would like to see you later, oh and he'll tell you exactly how things are run around here, now get moving both of you before you are put on a charge for malingering."

Marie and Reb leave the cell and go in the direction of the laundry, Cynthia follows them but looks worried as she realises that Kean is not the pushover she thought she was, she was going to have to get at her some other way.

We see the laundry at Blackmoor it looks the same as Wentworth but its a lot less bright, Marie and Reb walk in together, Marie's friend Janie is working the press, Marie goes up to Janie and says:"Ok you can rack off now, i'll take over now."

Reb: "Geez terrific don't tell me you are supposed to be top dog here, Winter."

Janie: Who's this bitch, seems like she needs to be taught some manners in how to speak to the top dog what do you reckon, Marie."

Reb to Janie: "Winter already tried to have a go at me already and she copped a bashing instead, what about you do you feel lucky."

Janie and Janine look at Reb perplexed and seem about to challenge Reb as they get to here Reb braces herself for the onslaught of the 2 antagonists.

Marie: "Its ok Janie, just leave her be for now, she'll keep, hey Kean how about working the sewing machine and mending some of those sheets."

Reb: "Yeah I suppose it's ok I dont want any trouble.", just then someone comes into the laundry, Margo Gaffney who has slipped away from kitchen duty and who is supposed to have gone to the dunny."

Margo: "Well, well if it isn't good old Reb Kean, say where's my dough from the stash I left behind at Wentworth."

Reb: "You're not still on about that are you, it got flushed down the dunny by that bitch Desmond and old fatguts Bryant."

Margo: "Those 2 bloody bitches, how did they ever find it."

Reb: "It's a long story, maybe I'll tell you sometime, but I swear I'll get that bitch Desmond somehow, someday after I have fixed the Freak."

Margo: "Yeah, you and me both." just then a screw the deputy governor Janet O'Connor walks in with the prison Governor, Harold Freeman, Officer O'Connor says, "Stand to attention before the governor." the room becomes so silent, you can hear a pin drop. Janet then says to Margo who looks quite uncomfortable, "What are you doing in here Gaffney?"

Margo: "Just came to see when the pickup for the laundry was due."

Janet to Marie: " Has the pickup been done yet?"

Marie: "Yes Mrs O'Conner about 15 minutes ago

Janet: "Right Gaffney, you can clear off now and get back to where you are supposed to be before you find yourself on a charge, get moving."

Margo: "Yes Mrs O'Connell, right away." then gets out of the laundry fast." 5 seconds after she has gone

Janet with undisguised sarcasm: "Right, now if you have all finished malingering or what ever the hell it is you all do all day, maybe you'll all exercise the courtesy of letting the governor have a word with you all without any further trouble or interruptions."

Harold: "Because you have proved you are as untrustworthy as ever, all priveledges are to be suspended indefinately until further notice, that means that recreation time will be spent in the cells until the person or persons responsible for killing Baxter come forward with evidence as to who or how she was murdered if it takes the rest of your lives than so be it, you will all be punished with what ever means possible at my disposal until this mystery is solved, is that clear?"

Marie: "We have told you before just like we told the cops so many times already, none of us knows anything about it. We were just as suprised to find out Janine had been mrderd
Harold: "Yes you all seem to have all those watertight alibi's how convienient for you all, well until this little mystery is solved you will all pay for the crime, that will be all." he turns and leaves the laundry. Janet remains and says to Reb, "The governor wants to see you in his office right now, Kean."

Reb: "Why what for."

Janet: "Unlike where you came from, when the governor wants to see you, you come at once without asking why, now get up and get moving."

Reb mutters something under her breath but gets up and follows Janet to Harold's office, Janet knocks on the door, we hear a voice saying "Come in.". Harold is at the desk , Janet walks in and says to Harold, "Kean is here Governor."

Harold: "Ok send her in."

Janet: "Get inside here, Kean." Reb comes into Harold's office and just gives him ones of her classic looks that say yeah what do you want

Harold: "So you are Kean, they transferred you here for dealing in illicit substances and for assaulting other prisoners and an officer, is that correct."

Reb raising her voice : "That bitch Ferguson was just waiting for this moment, she had her knife into me from the moment I arrived, why the bitch even tried to kill me once, when I came here two of your screws used me as a punchbag the moment I arrived.................

Harold roaring: "Thats enough I've read enough about you to realise this is not the first time you have accused  officers of assaulting you when it has been proved that you have been lying, I will not tolerate such allegations against my staff from you is that clear?"

Reb: "It's true I tell you, they did use me as a punchbag."

Harold: "Let me tell you right now how things are going to be from now on, if you want to get along in here you are going to learn right this very second to do just exactly what have been told, we will not tolerate any of the nonsense you gave both officers, inmates and staff at Wentworth, because if you don't you will soon find out just how unpleasant some time spent in solitary can be am I making myself clear to you."

Reb realising it was futile to argue just says:"Yes Governor."

Harold: "Good I am glad we understand one another, if you cooperate here there is no reason why being here should be any more unpleasant than it has to be, that will be all Mrs O'Conner please take her back."

Janet and Reb are walking along the corridor when Janet says:"We are not totally unreasonable but we run this place the way a prison should be run not like a girls boarding school, its as Mr Freeman says, you cooperate and you'll be alright, any nonsense though will be met with immediate punishment, you can go back to the laundry today, is there anywhere where you would prefer to work from tomorrow?"

Reb:"I'd like to work in the kitchen if possible tommorrow."

Janet: "Ill see if it can be arranged, now back to work."

Back in the laundry the women are discussing Janine Baxter's murder

Marie: "That bastard can't get away from making us all pay for something we did'nt do."

Reb: " Why don't you just own up to it and save anyone else from having to do it for you, after all it's your style to chuck people over stairwell's if they don't do what you want, isn't it Winter, what did the poor bitch do to you this time to deserve having you bump her off, did you create another riot and bump the poor bitch off just because she didnt want to kill some mole you wanted dead."

Marie goes up to Reb and grabs her by the throat: "You bitch I outta kill you right now, don't you get it I swear I did'nt know nothing about it, Janie and Jenny found her a couple of days ago at the bottom of the stair case we all thought she slipped and broke her neck when she fell down the stairs, whoever it was it was'nt any one of us I can tell you."

Reb looks around at all the faces in the laundry, she then looks again at Marie and her gut instinct tells her that Marie and all the other women in the laundry are telling the truth and did'nt kill Janine, its only later on that she will temporarily know the exact circumstances of how Janine Baxter was killed.

 Just then Marie releases her and says under her breath."Don't worry Kean after lights out tonight Ill teach you something about how this place works, right everyone back to work."


Just then a bell goes and Terry Walters appear at the doorway."Right everybody out the laundry, almost time to eat."

Later on in the diningroom which is bleak compared to Wentworth, everyone is silent in the diningroom as Harold has enforced the no talking rule as part of the punishment given to the prisoners, Cynthia and Terry are walking up and down between the isles like drill sergeants and they are both armed with batons. As Cynthia walks past Reb's table she gives a head signal to Margo, Margo gets up from the table she is sitting at with 2 extra's and as she walks past Reb's table she tips Reb's food all over her lap.

Reb jumping up indignantly:"You bitch, you did that on purpose."

Margo cockily: "Sorry Reb i'm so clumsy it was an accident."

Reb so angry she forgets where she is: "That was no accident you stupid ugly bitch." she grabs Margo by the throat and is about to thump Margo when she sees Cynthia approaching, she releases Margo and starts picking up the food from the floor. However Cynthia and Terry are both at the table

Cynthia: "It seems you have a problem obeying rules, Kean, you have just earned yourself a stint in the pound, Mr Walters take her and put her in solitary for 24 hours."

Terry grabs Reb and starts to push her roughly, Reb screams: "What are you blind and stupid you were standing looking right at us, you saw she did it on purpose,come on you must have seen it."

Cynthia with a horrible snarl says: "All I saw Kean was an accident and your outburst which was uncalled for, you have now also earned another day in solitary for insubordination, that means that if you go with Mr Walters without any further ado you will spend 48 hours there, unlike Wentworth there is no limit to the amount of time you can spend in solitary for breaking the rules, I suggest you quit while you are ahead, Mr Walters take her to solitary immediately." To Margo, "Go get a mop and bucket and clean this mess straight away, you will also remain here after everyone has finished eating and clean this place, I want it so sparkling clean I want to be able to see my reflection on the table counters, Is that clear?.

Margo: "Yes Miss Leach" we see Terry roughly escourting Reb out the diningroom and Margo going in the opposite direction.

Outside it is dark, we see Terry roughly pushing Reb into a dark dingy cell opposite the main building, Reb is screaming,"No you can't put me in there." Terry locks the door and walks away from solitary as he is walking away we can hear Reb screams which slowly ebb away as the scene fades to black the camera focuses on 2 dogs and a siamese cat who are lying close to one another by the expression on each animal's faces its becomes crystal clear that this is not the first time they have witnessed someone being thrown into the pound for the first time at Blackmoor.

Episode 2


The camera zooms in on the 3 animals , the smaller dog who is cute and cuddly gets up and goes to the cat and starts teasing her by playing with her tail, the cat gets up shakes herself with dignity and moves to another place slightly further away and lies down again, the smaller dog looks over at other dog who is bigger, the big dog gets up goes towards the cat, puts one paw one either side of her hind legs and starts rolling her over and over again on the grass, meanwhile the smaller dog comes and starts with paying with her tail again, looking rather annoyed she moves in the direction of the building where Reb Kean has just been thrown into solitary we see her approaching a patch of grass at the bottom of the solitary cell and going through it, the 2 dogs go and lie down side by side looking contented as if they have accomplished their mission.

We see the staffroom a young handsome officer is sitting there with a very attractive young lady dressed in civvies, the young officer is Jonathan Grant and the young lady is Katherine Freeman daughter of Governor Harold Freeman who has recently been appointed the new social worker.

Jonathan: "So how did it go today, did you manage to get through to any of them."

Katherine: "It was another one of those days, you know when you feel as if you are banging your head against a brick wall, I guess they still see me as a threat because dad is governor especially since he has taken all their priviledges away, I must say I was surprised when that inspector came and said that Janine Baxter has been murdered instead of her death being an accident, I cant help feeling that dad is being unduly too strict and unreasonable by making all the prisoners suffer like that though."

Jonathan: " I did'nt want to say it myself because he's your dad, although he's a good man I also think he's being unreasonable myself, but I've just started here, I don't have the clout that Janet, Cynthia or Terry have and they all seem to be behind him every step of the way, the only one who agrees with me is Beverley what's a mystery though is how the cops knew it was murder and not an accident.

Cynthia walks into the staffroom and says: "The autopsy revealed it was murder not suicide apparently her neck was broken in a place inconsistent with the fall itself, Im just on way way home, my shift has just ended, Im beat, by the way that new prisoner that came in earlier today, she's in the pound."

Jonathan: "Who is she, what did she do to get herself in the pound so quick."

Cynthia: "Her name is Reb Kean she got sent here from Wentworth because she was a constant headache to both inmates and staff alike, the final straw came when she tried to attack a very good friend and former colleague of mine Joan Ferguson, the Governor at Wentworth saw fit to transfer her here, she's hardly been here 5 minutes and already she has started with the same antics again, I told Terry to put her in the pound because she nearly attacked Gaffney just because Gaffney accidently spilled food over her at dinner, then she got another day for insubordination she'll be there the rest of today and the whole of tomorrow as well ."

Jonathan: "I guess Ill have the pleasure of meeting her later when I take the breakfast meal to solitary, but in all due fairness Cynthia, knowing what Gaffney's like don't you think just maybe she might have spilled that food on Reb Kean by purpose."

Cynthia: " I saw the whole thing and it was an accident on Gaffney's part this time, anyway I've got to go get some sleep I've got a double shift starting late tomorrow night, goodbye and see you tomorrow."

Jonathan: "Cheers Cynthia see you tomorrow." Cynthia leaves the room he looks at Katherine who was quiet the entire time Cynthia was there and says:" I guess I get to meet the infamous Reb Kean later today eh."

Katherine:" I would like to have a chat with this Reb Kean, I spoke to dad earlier on today and he told me something very interesting, I wonder if he'll let me see her while she's in solitary."

Jonathan: "You've got no chance of that Kath, you'll just have to wait till when she comes out anyway I've got to get on my rounds I'm late already, say would you like to go for dinner tomorrow night after work, maybe you can tell me what you and the Governor talked about ."

Katherine: "That would be great, besides it's almost time for me to knock off as well."

Katherine gets her handbag and they leave the staffroom together

We see Reb lying on the bed in the cell, we hear an noise which seems to be coming from under the bed, Reb jumps off the bed and moves to the other side of the room with a pillow in her hand ready to attack, we see the siamese cat coming out from under the bed, Reb looks stunned but throws the pillow back on the bed and relaxes when see sees the cat.

Reb: " What the???Cat, how did you get in here."

Sassy (the cat):"Meouw, Meouw" she then goes over to Reb and starts rubbing herself against Reb's legs purring loudly

Reb goes and sits back on the bed Sassy follows her and continues to rub herself against Rebs legs she is also purring loudly, Reb picks her up and starts cuddling her saying"Kitty cat, I don't know how you got in her don't get me wrong Im so glad you're here with me, I better find out because I don't want a screw to find out how you got in, but you better not have any fleas but." Sassy meouws indignantly but eventually just lies down on Reb's lap and falls asleep.

We see the kichen where the meals are prepared, everyone is laughing at a joke Edwina Blackmore the cook has just made

Edwina:"Right we better get back to it eh girls,", she turns around and sees the contents of a pot boiling over on the stove she runs to it just in time turns around and says to an inmate app 60 years of age,"Dotty you were supposed to be watching the pots to make sure nothing boils over."

Dotty,"Im sorry Edwina, I was just wondering where Sassy is."

Edwina: "You know that darn cat has a mind of her own, she'll come here when she's good and ready, now please ladies we must get back to work as we are slightly behind schedule the last thing we want is to give Mr Walters or Miss Leach a reason to put any of you on a charge, Lord knows they don't seem to need much provocation these days."

Everyone quickly gets back to work, two young inmates Susan Short and Kathy Bates are talking whilst they are working

Kathy: "Did you see that new girl that came in yesterday?"

Susan:"No not yet but I hear the leach and Walters chucked her in the pound during dinner last night."

Kathy: "This place seems to become more of a concentration camp every day, do you know what happened."

Susan: "Dot said she heard Marie and Margo talking about it, apparently the leach came to Margo yesterday and told Margo she wanted her to make sure Kean had an accident during dinner so that she could be thrown in the pound."

Kathy: "I wonder why Margo would do that though, as far as I know she hates the leach as much as the rest of us, Im only glad the leach doesnt seem to hassle us or take much notice of us."

Susan: "Yeah it makes one wonder why Margo would do it especially since she knew this Reb from Wentworth apparently Marie knows Reb as well."

Just then Jonathan comes into the kitchen and says to Edwina: " Morning Mrs B how is everything in here, will breakfast be ready soon."

Edwina smiling: "It should'nt be too much longer about 10 minutes, Mr Grant."

Jonathan: No worries, I'll wait for it besides I will get to meet the new inmate, Susan would you like carry the meal tray for me to solitary."

Susan: "No worries, Mr Grant."

We next see Jonathan and Susan coming out the kitchen door and walking in the direction where the solitary cells are, we see Rufus and Butch the 2 dogs coming towards Jonathan and Susan and both give a welcoming bark.

The women are sat at the diningroom having breakfast, Janet and Beverley are on duty, both are carrying batons but are just standing at the entrance to the diningroom.

The women are all standing in line to get breakfast, Marie and Janie are whispering together

Marie: "I tell you Janie, we've gotta get to the bottom of who killed Baxter, there's no way I want to lose my priveledges for the rest of the time I'm in this stinking hole."

Janie: "Yeah Marie, I agree the only trouble is that everyone really seems to know nothing about it, when Jen and I found her we really thought she had just fallen and broke her neck by accident, we usually know who the person is who bumped someone else is even although we cant lag, but this time Im buggered if I can figure out who it was."

Marie: "Yeah when I find out who it is, Ill make sure she lags on herself, no one does anything in this place without my say so or ok, when I find her Ill make her sorry she ever saw the light of day, she'll be begging the screws to be put in the pound forever."

Janet: "For goodness sake would you all mind moving a bit faster than you are at the moment, Winter what's the hold up everyones already at their tables and you and Turner are just staying there in like a couple of statues.

Marie: "Sorry Mrs O'Conner I just thought I saw something, thats all."

Janet: "Winter, I don't know what imaginery thing you are supposed to have seen, but I'll tell you this what you will see will be very vivid and very real if you don't get cracking this very second, then you may realise that this place does'nt run on your schedule."

Marie and Janie get their meal without futher odo and sit at the table in silence as Janet is watching them very closely

Inside solitary Reb is lying on the bed, Sassy is lying beside her, they both hear 2 dogs barking, Sassy bolts upright and slips under the bed, we see the door being unlocked and Jonathan and Susan coming into the cell.

Susan goes up to the bed and puts the tray down and says:"Good day, my name is Susan Short, you're Reb Kean right."

Reb:"Yeah thats right." Susan stands there looking at Reb expecting Reb to say more

Reb: "You want something."

Susan with a puzzled look walks away slowly says: "No, hope the foods ok we made it ourselves.", she walks out the cell

Jonathan: "Wait for me, Susan I wont be long." to Reb :"you know you are not going to make friends here if you have an attitude like that, believe me we all need friends and you especially need friends in a place like this."

Reb: "Oh yeah, what would you know about friends tell you what,  all I want is to be left alone, no one hassles me and I don't hassle them." just then Rufus runs into the cell and throws himself in Rebs arms and licking her, momentarily Reb appears to smile and hugs Rufus and says to Jonathan, "What a nice dog whose is he."

Jonathan: "He belongs to the cook Mrs Blackmore, they stay on the premises on the other side of the prison, Mrs Blackmore has another dog called Butch and a siamese cat called Sassy, But Im afraid he's not supposed to be in here, come on Rufus time to go now.", Jonathan picks up Rufus and they leave the cell together, Jonathan to Reb, "Ill be along for the tray later, think about what I said." he closes the door and locks it.

Reb takes the tray off the lid and tastes her food, "At least the stinking dump has a decent cook at it, I wonder how gay Ray is getting on now, maybe I can get in touch with him and try get him to come around with that letter about the Freak."

In the laundry all the inmates are busy as there has been a screw present the entire time, first Janet then Beverley.

Marie: "Is it all right if I go to the dunny, Miss Carter."

Beverley: "Correct me if Im wrong, but you went 15 minutes ago, why do you need to go again."

Marie: "It must have been something I ate, please can I go."

Beverley: "Make it quick and don't let me find out you've been malingering or you'll be on a charge."

Marie: "Thanks Miss Carter." and leaves the laundry, Beverley: "Ok get on with your work everyone."

Janie: "Can I go to the tut too, Miss Carter."

Beverley rolling her eyes: "For goodness sake, Janie hurry up and make it quick," Janie leaves Beverley, "Now can we please see some work being done in here ladies."

We see Janie and Marie together passing money in Janie's cell

Marie: "Come on where's the rest, hand it over or I'll thump you."

Janie: "That's all I got, honest Marie its hard to peddle the stuff around with a screw breathing down your neck all the time."

Marie: "Yeah ok Ill get Gaffney later and see if she had any better luck, at least she gets to get more places since she started working in the kitchen and doesn't have to give a screw some explanation for where she's going, we better get back to work before O'Conner or Walters catches us, thank goodness the leach is'nt here today." they walk back in the direction of the laundry 

Janie: "Yeah wouldnt it be great to never have to see her ever again."

Marie: " Yeah, the freak was bad enough but the leach takes the cake when it comes to bent screws, seems she really has it in for Kean, won't be surprised if she got a call from the Freak telling the leach to put the wind up her, like she did with me when I first came here."

They get to the laundry Beverley is still there. Marie and Janie get back to work, Marie on the press and Janie folding sheets

Later we see the women being escourted to their cells by Terry and Janet for lockup. Janet stops at Marie's dorm

Janet: "Enjoy your last night in this cell Winter, tomorrow night you will be moved in with Gaffney."

Marie: "Why can't you just move Kean in with Gaffney, I've made this cell my home now."

Janet: " You dont tell us where to put you, you go where we put you, besides Mr Freeman feels that Kean should be in a cell on her own."

Marie: "Oh Please Mrs O'Connell I dont mind who I share with I just like this cell, couldnt you please just put Margo in here with me."

Janet: "I'll think about it and let you know in the morning, goodnight Winter."

Meanwhile Reb is lying on the bed in solitary when she hears the same scratching noise she heard in the morning, Sassy appears.

Reb: "Sassy, you came back I almost thought you were never going to come back," Sassy jumps on top of the bed and after the petting she lies on top of Reb's chest and falls asleep, the next morning although she has gone out of the cell a few times during the night she is there when Reb awakes, shortly after Reb is awake Sassy leaves again."

We see reception, Janet is sitting at the reception desk when Cynthia walks in and signs the register

Janet: "Hi Cynthia did you have a nice rest on your day off."

Cynthia:"I had so much to do in the morning however I took it easy last night and watched an old Bette Davis movie on the telly last night, anything much being happening since I was gone."

Janet: "Just the usual, nothing we couldnt handle though, oh by the way we transferred Gaffney to Winter's cell, when Kean gets out of solitary tomorrow she'll go to Gaffney's old cell."

Cynthia: "I think it a good thing to have Kean put into a single cell for the moment, anyway better get to it, see you later Janet." Cynthia goes through the door leading down the corridor to the staffroom she sees Terry there at the table drinking coffee

Terry: "Hi Cynthia, how was your day off yesterday."

Cynthia: "It was fine I took care of a lot of things."

Terry: "Are you going to deliver the meals in solitary tonight."

Cynthia: "Yes I would'nt miss it for the world, I'll take Perkins with me to carry the tray."

In the kichen Edwina and the inmates have almost got the evening meal ready and laughing and joking with one another, Susie is busy petting Sassy who has been in the kitchen for the last half hour, when suddenly Blackie goes Mweoulllll and flies out the kitchen.

Dot to Susie:"Quick dear, the leach is coming in here."

Susie gets back to the task of getting the plates ready to serve the meal after laying out the second plate the door opens and Cynthia is standing at the doorway watching, the atmosphere has changed from being jovial to everyone hurredly getting the meal ready to serve.

Cynthia to Edwina: "Which one of these meals is for solitary."

Edwina pointing to a meal on a tray: "That one over there."

Cynthia: "Is it ready to be taken out."

Edwina: "If a meals on a tray with a lid over the plate, its ready." she turns her back on Cynthia to get a knife and fork to put on the plate, "You can take it now if you want to."

Cynthia: "Perkins I want you to carry this meal to solitary for me, lets move it."

Dot picks up the tray and accompanies Cynthia out the door

Reb is sitting on the bed petting Sassy who came back to her cell 15 minutes ago, she suddenly hears  a scratching noise on the wall by the bed, suddenly Sassy bolts upright jumps off the bed looks at the door to solitary and starts growling and hissing, with a last hiss and loud myoewllrrrmmmmmm disappears like lightning under the bed and Reb hears her going out through the grass.

About 15 seconds later the door to solitary is unlocked and Cynthia and Dot walk in

Cynthia: "Put the tray down Perkins and get out and wait for me outside the door." Dot puts the tray down gives Reb a nervous smile and gets out the cell quickly."

Cynthia looks at Reb who is sitting on the bed for a while and says, "Get up Kean." to her surprise Reb does without saying anything. Cynthia:"It seems as if your manners have improved considerably since yesterday when you first came in, maybe you will be out tomorrow if you keep up your good behaviour up, by the way you are no longer sharing a cell with Winter, you'll be on a cell on your own, Gaffney's old cell, enjoy your meal someone will collect it tomorrow and Kean anymore trouble from you you'll land back in here just as quickly,  understood."

Reb: "Yeah."

Cynthia: "Come along Kean you've been in prison long enough, surely you know the correct way to address and speak to an officer."

Reb: "Yes Miss Leach."

Cynthia with undisguised sarcasm and contempt : "Good , glad to see you are learning." she gives Reb another long cold stare and leaves the cell locking the door behind her.

Reb mutters : "Up yours, you stinking lousy ugly bitch, I swear one day you will pay for this you freak Ferguson." she takes the lid off the plate and starts eating the food later when she is finished she she puts the tray back down on the floor, this causes the plate to move slightly, and she sees something at the side of the plate, she picks up the plate and sees the 3 gingerbread biscuits that were lying underneath the plate.

Episode 3
We hear a the bell ringing, we see the inside of Marie and Margo's cell, they are in their pyjamas.

Marie: "Struth, you'd think they'd at least get the bell to ring at the right time, the thing's loud enough to wake the dead."

Margo: "Yeah especially since there no longer such a thing as rec time anymore."

Marie: "So were you able to score today."

Margo: "Yeah, here's the dough."she then hands Marie a few notes, Marie then hands her a couple back which is Margo's share of the profits."I hear Reb gets out of the pound tomorrow."

Marie looks thoughtful: "Yeah I never got a chance to ask you what the leach did to make you to do that to Kean, I thought you were great mates when you were at Wentworth together and had things sewn up there."

Margo: "Lets just say I had a score to settle with Reb, she pulled one over on me there and I owed her one, I think we are square now though."

Marie: "Yeah I got a chance to settle the score I owed her, but it really looks like the leach is gunning for her."

Margo as if in deep thought: "Yeah, I wonder why."

Marie: "Dunno, won't be suprised if the freak has a hand in it though

Margo: "Yeah only thing is the leach makes the freak look like a girl scout, Reb had better watch her back."

The lights go out in the cell both women get into bed and the room is silent

In the staffroom Terry and Cynthia are sitting chatting when Edwina Blackmore walks in

Edwina: Hi, just came to get something out of my locker.", she then takes something out , "Well have a good evening, see you tomorrow."

Terry: "Yes goodnight, see you tomorrow and Edwina tonight's food was absolutely fabulous, one of the best I've had in ages."

Edwina sailing: "Thanks, Terry I'm so glad you liked it." she then turns around and leaves the room

Terry to Cynthia: "Gotta admit she's possibly one of the best cooks in the country let alone the prison service, her cooking is just as good as a restuarant's any day, why I...."

Cynthia:"Why don't you just shut up."

Terry: "Why? whats the matter with you, all I said was..."

Cynthia: "Im well aware of what you said, what I don't like is the woman's attitude."

Terry: "Why what's wrong with it, she's always been fine towards me and as far as I know the Governor and all the other staff thinks she's terrific as well."

Cynthia: "She is extremely curt with me in front of the scum in here, when I went to get the meal to take to Kean earlier, she made no attempt to even appear courteous towards me, another thing as well is that cat of hers as well as those 2 dogs just seem to roam about freely wherever they damn well please, instead of being wherever they are supposed to be which is on her premises."

Terry rolling her eyes: "Good grief Cynthia, so all this palavar is just because Edwina did'nt give you friendly smile in the kitchen, she's entitled to her views and unlike the scum in here her friendliness with you isn't a prerequisite for the job and for your information I like her cat and both her dogs, Im going on my rounds now, see you later." he then storms out the staffroom."

We then see an expression of sheer rage developing on Cynthia's face which is fast turning purple that is impossible to describe in mere words

We see Terry head out towards the solitary cells

Reb is lying awake on the bed in solitary when she hears a familiar scratch on the wall, Sassy leaps off the bed and goes out the cell without growling or hissing, Reb pretends to be asleep, the door opens and Terry peeks inside, satisfied that Reb is asleep he goes back out again.

Edwina is sitting in her headquarters watching telly with Rufus at her feet, when Sassy comes through the window and jumps on Edwina's lap' purring loudly 

Edwina: "Well the prodigal returns, where was mummy's precious baby, as if I did'nt know."

Sassy: "Meouw."

Edwina: "Let me give you some food before you go on onother one of your great escapades again." she gets up holding Sassy in her arms, Rufus follows them into the kitchen

We see Butch lying outside the back end of solitary keeping a vigilant eye, we see Rufus come towards Butch, Butch then gets up and goes in the direction of Edwina's headquarters.

The night has turned to day and we see Terry and Kathy coming into Reb's cell

Terry: "You have 1 minute to put that tray down and to get out of here, Bates." Kathy goes to the bed and puts the breakfast tray down and asks Reb, "So how was the dinner last night."

Reb: "It just what I'd expect from a lousy dump like this."

Kathy: "I hear you're getting out later today."

Reb: "Yeah, that's if some screw does'nt have it in for me and dumps me back in here on another trumped up charge."

Terry: "Ok Bates your minute is up, get outside the door and wait for me." he then walks towards Reb looking like he is going to attack her

Reb: "You just keep away from me, you bash happy screw."

Terry with a grin: "Now, now Kean that's not the proper way to address an officer, nor is it very polite, tell you what since I'm in rather a good mood this morning and as I realise your first time in here could be quite stressful to say the least, Im prepared to overlook it this time."

Reb: "Oh yeah, in return for what, I'd rather spend the rest of my life in here before Ill do that."

Terry: "Don't flatter yourself Kean, Now remember to be a good girl, the day is still young I can change my mind very quickly." he then turns and leaves the cell locking the door behind him.

Later on we see Reb lying on the bed with Sassy beside her, we see Sassy go under the bed but not through the grass, the cell door is unlocked and Beverley Carter comes into the cell

Beverley: "Im Miss Carter, I've come to take you out of solitary and to your new cell."

Reb: "New cell?, I'm supposed to be sharing with Winter,"

Beverley: "Not anymore, the Governor has put Gaffney in with Winter and assigned you to a cell on your own for the time being, that way there should be less trouble."

They leave solitary together, next thing we see Reb and Beverley in Reb's new cell

Beverley: "Make your bed, Ill be back in 10 minutes for you, the social worker, Miss Freeman would like to see you."

Reb: "Yeah and what if I don't want to see her."

Beverley: "For your sake I'd suggest you see her, if you don't they will wonder why and you could be facing a charge of insubordination, Im sure you've already been told a few times since you arrived here that you are expected to do exactly as you've been told."

Reb: "Alright, alright I'll see her."

Beverley: "When I come back I expect to see the bed made, your dorm neat and for you to be ready for the social worker."

Beverley leaves the cell, we see her walking down the corridor, we see Janie and Jenny come into Reb's cell looking menacing

Reb:"Yeah what do you 2 moles want."

Janie: "You!!, you bitch, we don't like what you did to Marie the other day, in fact we don't like you full stop."

Reb: "Yeah well, the feeling is 100% mutual I can promise you that, like I told you the other day I'm ready for you any time, now get out of her so I can make my bed in peace, you're making me sick."

Jenny comes to Reb and takes a swing at Reb who has her back turned to them so that she can start making the bed the blow lands on her side and knocks her down, as Reb falls to the floor she rolls on the floor kicking out at Jenny's legs which causes Jenny to fall down, meanwhile Janie comes to Reb and kicks her hard in the stomach a couple of times, next thing Kathy Bates comes into the dorm and lays into Janie and easily overpowers her, she also has a go at Jenny who has recovered and is about to lay into Reb as well.

Kathy to Janie and Jenny who are clutching their sides in pain: "Get out of here now, or you'll get more of the same, there's plenty more where that came from." to Reb: "You Ok." she help Reb up.

Reb: "Thanks I owe you, those 2 bitches sprung me by suprise when I had my back turned as I started making the bed."

Kathy: "Yeah well, you'd better get on with it then, Im not supposed to be here, I actually made an excuse to go to the dunny so I could get something from my cell and then I heard noises from here."

Reb: "You better go before a screw catches you, don't worry I'll be fine, thanks again for helping out, Ill see you later."

Kathy as she is leaving: "No worries, glad I was able to put those 2 moles in their place."

Reb has just finished making the bed and got the cell tidied when Beverley comes back into the cell.

Beverley: "Good glad to see your bed made, are you ready to see the social worker now."

Reb: "Yeah as ready as Ill ever be I suppose."

We see them walk along another corridor and Beverley knocks on a door, the voice from inside says "Come In" Beverley opens the door and says,"Rebecca Kean is waiting to see you."

Katherine: "Good, send her in please Miss Carter."

Beverley: "You can come in now Kean, then to Katherine as Reb walks in."Ill come back for her in 30 minutes."

Katherine: "Thanks Miss Carter" to Reb "You can sit down if you want to, Rebecca."

Reb sits down gives Katherine a look and says: "The name's Reb."

Katherine: "That's fine if you want to be called Reb, I have no problem with it, tell me something about yourself Reb."

Reb: "What's to tell you that you don't already know, Im sure you've read about my life history in one of those files."

Katherine: " Yes I have, but like all files, they don't tell the whole story, do you have any dreams or aspirations, things like that??"

Reb: "Dreams and aspirations, Lady, in a dump like this who can have dreams or aspirations except to get out of this stinking place especially when you get bash happy screws constantly having their knife into you just because they don't happen to like the look of your face."

Katherine clearly stunned by the outburst merely says: "You don't like being called Rebecca I understand and respect that, however I don't like being called Lady, if you want to address me by name kindly refer to me as Miss Freeman."

Reb" Yeah ok Miss Freeman."

Katherine: " Now that we've got that straight, I would like to know what you meant by as you put it, bash happy screws with a knife into you, and don't worry whatever you say will be kept in the strictest confidence unless you indicate otherwise."

Reb takes a long look at Katherine and instinct tells her that she can trust Katherine, she then proceeds to tell Katherine about her time at Wentworth including the time Joan Ferguson tried to throw her over the stairwell, as well as her induction when she arrived at Blackmoor.

Katherine: "That must have been a terrible thing for you to have to go through when this Miss Ferguson tried to push you over the stairs, what I admire is the guts you showed by getting help when the tables were reversed."

Reb: "You believe me, you actually believe me, no one has ever believed me before."

Katherine with the utmost sincerity: "I can read a person like a book, I also know that you have a tendancy to use people for your own ends and purposes without thinking of the consequences that may follow and I'm warning you right now not to try those sort of antics with me because they won't work, however I have absolutely no doubt in my mind whatsoever that you have told me the absolute truth as to what happened at Wentworth and here."

Reb: "No I won't try to fool you Miss Freeman, Im just so happy you believe me."

Katherine: "The only problem is trying to prove the allegations, it's one thing having suspicions but the proof is another matter altogether, the best advice I can give for the moment is to try settle in and make some friends and try stay out of trouble, have you managed to make any friends yet.?"

Reb: "I know Margo Gaffney and Marie Winter from Wentworth, but I would'nt say they are friends of mine, I did meet a girl Kathy Bates and she seems ok, a real nice girl."

Katherine: "Yes, she is a nice girl but has a tendancy to be led by the wrong people, Im afraid, I would hate to have to find out that you were only friendly for her just so that you could use her for your own ends and purposes."

Reb: "Oh I would'nt do that, besides she helped me out earlier today."

Katherine: "Let me guess, someone tried the heavy on you and she came to your defence."

Reb: "Geez, how did you know??"

Katherine with a smile: "Like I told you just now, I can read people like a book, I don't get fooled easily, by the way have you been able to get in touch with your mother and let her know you've been transferred."

Reb: "No not yet, it all happened so quick."

Katherine: "Would you like me to get in touch with her, let her know you're here and ask her if she'll come and see you."

Reb: "Yeah, that will be great."

Just then the door opens and Cynthia Leach comes inside

Katherine clearly irritated: "Is there something I can do for you, Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "I've come to take Kean back to her cell."

Katherine: "It's alright, Miss Carter is going to come back for her."

Cynthia to Katherine: "Miss Carter is occupied elsewhere at the moment and I am on a tight schedule, this is the only time an officer came come to take Kean back".

Katherine to Reb: "Fine, Ill see if I can get in touch with your mother, and let you know what happens tomorrow, Reb."

Cynthia: "The prisoner's name is Kean, not Reb."

Katherine: "Since I'm only the social worker here and not an officer such as yourself, I'm not bound by having to call the inmates by the names you call them."

Cynthia visibly seething: "Get up Kean now and get out and wait for me by the security gate." Reb gets up and goes out the room, Cynthia slams the door shut.

Cynthia: "Your father may be the Governor here, but you will never ever speak to me like that again in front of the scum in here, do you understand me."

Katherine: "My father, the Governor would see it the same way and give you the same answer I just gave you, so please if you've finished with your little speech would you kindly leave the room, I've got lots of work to do."

Cynthia enraged, but left absolutely speechless just opens the door and leaves Katherine's office slamming it shut so loudly that  the security gate echoes with the vibration, the prison doctor Robert Sinclair is walking along the corridor, he walks past Cynthia and tentively says hello, she ignores him she gets to the security gate opens it and says, "Get moving, Kean."

Episode 4

We see Robert approach the door to Katherine's office and knocking softly

Katherine: "Come in." Robert goes in tentavely

Robert: "Is it safe to come in, do you think she'll be back."

Katherine: "I don't think so, at least not today."

Robert: " I would'nt like to be in Reb Kean's shoes right now, that Miss Leach looked like she wanted to kill someone."

Katherine: "Im sure it's me she wants to kill ."

Robert: "Why what on earth happened."

Katherine then starts telling him about the scene that just took place between her and Cynthia

We see Janie and Jenny come out of a cell and hurry down the corridor just before we see Cynthia and Reb turn the corner, they go into Reb's cell which looks as if a tornado had struck it.


Cynthia: "Well, well, well Kean, it looks like you don't know to keeping your cell clean and tidy, you're on an insubordination change."

Reb: "Hey come on, you can't try pin this on me , you know I could'nt have done that, I've been with the social worker all this time and the cell was fine when I left here, just ask that other screw she was with me from the time I left here till I got there ."

Cynthia:"All I know is that it's a complete pigsty now and I want it clean, and that you are going to clean it right now,"

Reb raising her voice: "You fat ugly bitch, you know I did'nt do it, why should I have......"

Cynthia grabs Reb in midsentence by the coller: " You will never, ever speak to me like that again Kean nor will you EVER raise your voice to me ever again," she punches Reb in the stomach, Reb falls down to the floor, Cynthia kicks her in the ribs pulls her by the hair,"Get up" once Reb is standing again,"Now you will clean this cell immediately without any further trouble, do you hear me?"

Reb doesn't answer but gives Cynthia a cold glare, Cynthia coming toward Reb again looking very menacing, "I am waiting for an answer Kean."

Reb: "Yeah all right I'll do it."

Cynthia with a quiet tone full of menace: "I beg your pardon."

Reb: "Yes Miss Leach."

Reb then proceeds to clean the cell with Cynthia standing over her like a watchdog once finished Cynthia seems about to leave the cell when Beverley comes to the cell with a new inmate. Beverley hasn't seen Cynthia yet

Beverley to Reb: "This is Noeline Burke, she'll be sharing the cell with you Kean, Burke this is Reb Kean." Beverley looks at Reb wondering why she's not saying anything when she suddenly sees Cynthia.

Beverley: Oh Miss Leach, did'nt realise you were here," she looks from Reb to Cynthia,"Whats going on here."

Cynthia: "It seems as if Kean has a problem in that she does'nt know how to keep a clean cell, when I came back here the cell was an absolute pigsty."

Beverley: "That's impossible, when I came to take Kean to Miss Freeman earlier the cell was clean and the bed was made, whoever it was that left it untidy, it could'nt have been Kean."

Reb to Cynthia: "You see I told you the cell was clean when I left here but you would'nt believe me, now Miss Carter has told you herself."

Cynthia: "What I believed was what I saw with the evidence of my own eyes and your cell was a pigsty." she turnes to leave, "And Kean, you're on extra cleaning duty tomorrow as punishment for insubordination."

Beverley: "Miss Leach I hardly think that's fair, I already told you Kean could'nt have left the cell in the state you found it."

Cynthia very coldly with minimal politeness to Beverley:"The punishment isn't for me finding the cell in the state I found it when I came in, but for her insubordination towards me, Now Miss Carter if you would'nt mind supervising Burke to see that she makes her bed properly and understands the rules, I have to go and supervise in the laundry," Cynthia leaves the room

Noeline: " Geez, the air is so cool in here, you don't even need a fridge to keep things cold." she looks at the door, "But it's getting a bit warmer since she left."

Beverley: "Just get on with making the bed please Burke, the bell is going in 5 minutes, there is to be a exercise period in the yard." Reb sits on her bed and says nothing

Later we see the yard and Reb and Noeline coming out with Beverley, we see Margo come towards Reb and Noeline

Margo:"Hiya Reb, g'day Noel long time no see."

Reb: "You 2 know one another."

Noeline: "Yeah we were at Wentworth together and then at Barnhurst, its been a couple of years now has'nt it Margo, she sees Marie,"Geez terrific, whats that white haired bitch doing here." she then sees Janie and Jenny,"I see she has those 2 stupid galars with here as well, that's worse than seeing Vinegar Tits on one of her bad hair days."

Reb softly to Noeline and Margo: "Lets go for a walk, I don't want a screw overhearing what I want to say." Noeline looks at Margo but Margo just nods and they both follow Reb. Beverley is just standing watching but keeping her distance

Margo: "Yeah, what."

Reb to Noeline: "Just keep on keeping an eye for the screw coming, I've got something to say to Gaffney here" Reb and Margo walk a slight distance from Noeline who is keeping knit," what the hell do you think you were doing that night when you tipped that food on me to get me thrown in the pound."

Margo: "Hey look I'm sorry about that Reb, the Leach told me to do it and as I was mad with you about what happened before I went along with it, now were even."

Reb: "Oh no not yet, Gaffney, you owe me a lot more than some stupid explanation,  just how friendly are you with Winter anyway."

Margo: "Oh we've got something going, she's running the rackets in here and she gives me a good cut."

Reb: "Well now I'm here I'm going to be taking over her rackets with your help," she looks over Noeline,"Is she any good, can she keep her trap shut."

Margo: "Yeah she's ok, she'll go along with anything so long as there's something in it for her."

Reb: "Lets go talk to her, they go to Noeline and tell her about the idea.

Noeline: "Sounds good to me, I'd like to take those bitches down a notch or 2 after what they did to me when I was at the other stinking dump."

We see Marie and her gang come towards Reb, Margo and Noeline

Marie with mock cheerfulness: "Say they let you out of the pound Kean, I wonder for how long this time."

Reb: "Why don't you just shut your face for more than 5 minutes, Winter, your voice is starting to sound like a foghorn." Marie looks at Reb with a smile then says to Noeline, "Hi how's it going Noeline, long time no see."

Noeline: "Yeah, not nearly long enough though."

Marie: "Come along Burke, that no way to treat an old friend especially now that I'm topdog."

Noeline: "You! Topdog.? don't make me laugh,Top Bitch more like."

Janie to Noeline: "You bitch I outta thump ya right now for what you just said."

Noeline: "Yeah, like to see you try, go on I'm waiting."

Janie looks about to try thump Noeline but Reb grabs Janie by the arm

Reb: "You already tried to thump me and see how far you got, by the way did you and your fat friend" Reb indicates Jenny "come and wreck my cell when I was with the social worker." Reb studies Janie's face very closely

Janie: "Now why would we go and do a thing like that, if you like living in a pigsty that's your problem, don't come and try to lay the blame on us if..." she does'nt finish her sentence because Reb has given her one hard punch in the gut in midsentence, Janie doubles over, Beverley is coming towards them but she did'nt see Reb hit Janie

 Reb softly in Janie's ear: "Screw's coming try to act normal in front of the screw if you can or you'll really get it, you hear me."

Marie: "G'day Miss Carter, come to join the conversation."

Beverley: " I sincerely hope you did'nt come here to cause trouble, Marie."

Marie with a light cackle: "Me cause trouble, never, besides you know me so well, Miss Carter."

Beverley: "Yes I do that's the trouble."

Marie: " We just came over to say hi to Neoline here as we were at Barnhurst together."

Beverley: "Will it didn't look to friendly from where I was standing, there better not be any funny business going on or you'll be likely to find yourselves in solitary." she walks away from them

Reb: "Now Winter, now that you've said hello to Burke, why don't you and your 2 fat friends here rack off."

Marie: "Yeah well your company is lousy anyway, coming along Margo??." Marie, Janie and Jenny start to walk away from them when the bell goes, it's the dinner bell.

Beverley: "Right ladies, the bells gone, time to go back inside."

They all start making their way inside, Reb, Margo and Noeline are walking together when Reb suddenly feels tomething touch her leg, she jumps but turns around and sees Rufus and Butch.

Reb: "Rufus it's you, you're here", she picks him up in her arms and starts hugging him, Margo also touches Rufus and he licks her hand, his tail wagging, even the normally untouchable Noeline says: "What a cute dog, where's he from." Noeline then sees the big dog Butch and says: "Come here boy," Butch goes over to Noeline and she gives him a hug meanwhile Beverley is watching the scene which has gone on far longer than it should have as she was enjoying it.

Beverley: "Im sorry ladies but I'm going to have to cut this short and ask that you come inside and go to the diningroom."

Reb, Margo and Noeline reluctantly go inside and are met by Cynthia and Jonathan at the entrance to the diningroom

Cynthia: "You're all late, where where you" all are silent

Cynthia as cold as ice:"I asked you a question and I expect an answer, Kean."

Reb: "We went to the dunny, so sorry we are late Miss Leach, it won't happen again."

Noeline: "Yeah that's right."

Cynthia giving Noeline a cold stare: "Yes, what."

Noeline: "Huh!!"

Cynthia: "Yes Miss Leach, now say it properly."

Noeline mockingly: "Oh yeah sorry, Yes Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "There's something in the tone of voice in which you just said that , that I don't like Burke, now lets try it again."

Noeline: "Yes Miss Leach."

Cynthia after giving them all the evil eye: "Get inside and get your food now, and no talking." they all go inside Noeline saying to Jonathan who is already looking very uncomfortable :"Gday Spunk."

Cynthia: "Burke, move it and you will keep that disgusting and filthy mouth of yours shut or you'll find yourself in solitary, now get going."

They get their food and sit at the table together in silence as Cynthia is watching them very closely.

Later on Reb and Neoline are in their dorm getting ready for bed when Jonathan comes to do the lockup and appears at their cell

Jonathan :"Right are you 2 ready for bed."

Noeline and Reb: "Yes."

Jonathan: "Right goodnight ladies, he turns to got out the cell and lock the door

Reb: "Mr Grant?"

Jonathan: "Yes what's up."

Reb: "Who's on night duty tonight."

Jonathan looking puzzled as Reb seems worried: "Just me, why is something the matter with you or Burke."

Reb visably more relaxed: "No everything's fine, thanks Mr Grant."

Jonathan: "Right good night, see you tomorrow" we see him outside the cell with a very puzzled expression on his face

Back inside the cell

Noeline: "What was all for, why did you ask which screw was doing the rounds, what difference does it make?"

Reb: "It makes a big difference, trust me."

Noeline: "Why should it, a screw's a bloody screw."

Reb: "You're not too bright are you Burke, Oh sorry I forgot that you've never met the freak."

Noeline: "I heard of her though from Bea Smith, from what Bea said she makes Vinegar Tits look like a bloody nun."

Reb: "Yeah, well the reason I asked him what screw was on duty tonight was I didn't want that fat bitch leach coming and paying us a midnight visit like the freak did."

Noeline bolts upright in bed: "What!!, the freak did that."

Reb: Oh yes that bitch Ferguson did that and much more, she even tried to kill me a couple of times, then she got me shipped to this lousy dump."

Noeline: "I get it now, you don't want that fat ugly bitch coming into our cells at night."

Reb: "Yeah, now you've got it, good on ya Burke."

Noeline:"Oh What!!!If you think I want to be woken up with her coming in here every middle of every night, and having to look at her ugly mug and listen to her crap ,strewth, bloody hell what are we gonna do about it."

Reb: "We lie in waiting for the bitch and spring her, don't worry It won't happen tonight but I know its gonna happen sometime and I wanna be ready her when it does."

They lie in silence for a few moments

Noeline: "Hey Kean."

Reb: "Yeah"

Noeline then asks Reb about what Joan Ferguson was like and why she thinks Cynthia would be like Joan, Reb then tells her about Joan but doesn't tell her about what happened on the stairwell, she does however give Noeline the grim details of her recent induction by Cynthia and Terry

Episode 5
We see Reb and Noeline lying in bed , we hear a bell its time to get up, we hear the door to the cell unlock and we see Terry coming in

Terry: "Right, time to get up and go to the showers"

Reb gets out of bed and starts making her way to the showers, meanwhile Noeline is still in bed, Terry goes to her

Terry loudly: "I said get out of that bed now, Burke don't make me make you get up from that bed."

Noeline gets out of bed mumbling under her breath she walks out the cell, Terry follows closely behind

At the shower block there are 7 stalls which are all occupied we see Janet standing at the door watching we see Reb and Noeline all joining the queue behind Dot with Kathy and Susan just in front of Dot.

Dot to Reb: "G'day I'm Dot Perkins, everyone call me Dotty, what's your name."

Reb: "Rebecca Kean, but you can call me Reb."

Dot gives a small smile to Reb and then says to Noeline: "And whats your name."

Noeline: " Noeline Burke, came here yesterday."

Kathy then turns around and sees Reb and Noeline, she says to Reb:"Hi how's it going Reb, are you settling in ok,Reb nods, Kathy to Susan, "This is Reb Kean we met yesterday."

Susan: "Yes we met already, good to see they let you out of the pound." sees Noeline and intruces herself and Kathy, Noeline introduces herself, just then..

Janet: "Come along ladies this is taking a lot longer than it should, would you please start moving a little faster, Short, there an empty stall over there, start using it."

In the diningroom Beverly and Jonathan are on duty, the no talking rule is still in force but they are allowing the inmates to talk amongst themselves provided there is not trouble

Marie, Janie, Jenny and two others are sitting at the table when Reb walks in with Noeline, Dot, Kathy, Susan and Margo, they all get their food and sit at the same table together, meanwhile Marie gets up and approaches their table

Marie: "I see you've found yourself some new friends, Margo can't say I like your choice, but." indicating Reb and Noeline

Margo: "Yeah, well I'm sat down now and am quite comfortable and don't feel like getting up just yet, so Ill just stay where I am right now, thanks Marie."

Marie: " Just don't forget which side your bread is buttered on, Gaffney, dont try...."

Dot: "Why don't you just go back to your own table and leave us to eat our breakfast in peace, Marie."

Marie: "I was'nt talking to you, you old bag, mind your own business."

Kathy: "Winter, I've told you before never, ever to speak to Dot like that ever again, remember what I did to your friends when they made me really, really mad, I might end up doing the same to you if you make me mad enough, and you're certainly going the right way about getting me mad right now." she gazes straight into Marie's eyes

Marie hesitates, stares back at Kathy who gaze is unwavering, then goes back to her own table."

Kathy: "Yeah, now we should be able to have our breakfast in peace." she then starts eating her breakfast

Reb to Kathy: "What happened, what did you do to those 2 moles."

Kathy: "When those 2 sheila's first came here I went into Dot's cell one day to ask her something, and I saw them heavying Dot, then that cow over there, (indicates Janie) punched Dot in the gut and because it happened just as I got there, I was so mad I kicked both their butts one week from Sunday and literally chucked them out Dot's cell, they haven't given Dot any trouble since that day, but."

Susan: "Kath is an expert in Martial Arts, she won't fight or look for trouble, but won't take any flak from nobody."

Dot to Kathy: "It's good to know that you're always looking out for my welfare, love." to Reb, Margo, Noeline,"But I'll still watch out for Marie, Janie and Jenny, they're very sneaky, they'd stick a knife in you as quick as look at you if you gave them half a chance."

Noeline: "Yeah, don't I know it, especially those 2 stupid galars (indicates Janie and Jenny)

Reb: "I think we all here know just what Winter is, don't worry they'all get theirs."

Just then the bell goes

Jonathan: "Right times up, time to get ready for muster and work duties."

All leave their table and get ready for muster, At muster Marie, Janie, Jenny, Margo, Noeline and a couple of others have been assigned to work in the laundry, Reb, Kathy, Susan and Dot and a couple of others to work in the kitchen

We see all those assigned to work in the kitchen coming inside, they are met with Edwina

Edwina with a bright smile: "Good morning ladies, good to see you all again." to Reb " Glad to see we've got someone new to help out, what your name."

Reb giving a small smile in return as Edwina is such a warm and friendly person she can't help responding: " Hi I'm Reb Kean."

Edwina: "Pleased to meet you were all nuts in here, we like having a good time, why we even have our own little watchdog to keep an eye on us to let us know when we spend too much time on the banter instead of the cooking, but we somehow always  manage get things ready in time."

Kathy: "Yeah, the watchdog is actually Edwina's cat Sassy, when she's here if were having a laugh or mucking about, we know a screws coming in here if Sassy leaves the kitchen, we more or less even know which screw is coming by the way she leaves, if it's the Governor or a normal screw she gives a small meouw and go hide in the pantry until they are gone, if Walters is coming she goes Mouew and leaves the kitchen completely, if its the leach coming she gives a very loud Meouwrrmm and charges out the kitchen as fast as a lightning bolt.

Edwina: "Right time to get to work ladies, Dot would you mind helping me to prepare the vegetables for the lunch, Reb would you help Kathy and Susan to prepare and cook the meat, please."

In the laundry Marie is on the press, Janie and Jenny and a couple of others are on the dryers, Noeline is on skip duty and folding, Margo is working on the sewing machine

Marie after bring the press down and back up: "Right, girls time for a smoko."

Noeline:" Yeah, great idea."

Marie to Margo: "Did you manage to get any takings, Gaffney."

Margo: "Yeah everythings still cool."

Marie goes over to Margo:"Right then, hand it over." Margo puts her hand in her pocket and gives Marie the takings, Marie looks at it , smiles, says to one of the extra's . "Keep an eye on the door for screw's coming." the extra goes to the door, Marie grabs Margo by the coller, "I want all of it, where's the rest of it."

Margo: "Let me go I tell you, I've given you everything ."

Marie releases her hold on Margo and throws her against the chair: "You better not be lying to me Gaffney, I run things around here, don't let me find out that you've been doublecrossing me with Kean, or you'll both get it."

Noeline: "Yeah, fine one you are to talk about doublecrossing someone, you should win the award for biggest doublecrossing bitch of all time."

Marie: "Why don't you shut up and get one with the work unless you want it as well."

Noeline: "Why should I be the only working when you spend all day on smoko."

Marie nodding at Janie and Jenny, all go towards Noeline just then the extra says: "Screw"

Cynthia appears at the doorway

Cynthia: Well, well, well, just what I expected to find when I came in here, to find you all malingering as per usual, you're all on a charge for insubordination."

 Marie: "But Miss Leach, we were just taking a smoko, we are allowed to take a smoko."

Cynthia: "Are you calling me a liar, Winter, I don't like being called a liar, am I right in assuming that you are all still on loss of priveledges because of the Janine Baxter incident and your right as you put it "smoko" is part of the priveledges which have been suspended, are you also contradicting me by saying you were doing what you were supposed to be doing when I came in here and saw you all malingering."

Marie: "No Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Good, glad to see we understand one another, now get back to work unless you all want to be put on another charge as well."

They all get on with their work in silence, a couple of minutes pass

Cynthia: "Outside, Winter I want a word with you." Marie goes outside with Cynthia they walk to the next corridor so's not to be overheard

Marie: "Yeah, what what do you want now."

Cynthia: "I beg your pardon."

Marie: "Why did you want to see me Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "That's better Winter, showing some courteousy isn't so hard, right I want you to arrange it so that Kean is put in the pound in the next couple of days."

Marie: "Why do you want Kean in the pound, what has she done this time."

Cynthia with a nasty grin: "Lets just say Winter, its a favour to our mutual friend Joan Ferguson."

Marie: "No worries, Miss Leach just leave it to us."

They talk for a couple more minutes then:

Cynthia: "You better not let me down Winter, get back inside the laundry and get back to work."

Marie and Cynthia walk back to the laundry Marie goes back to the press, Cynthia is standing at the door looking pleased

Unknown to Marie and Cynthia, Susan Short had got permission from Edwina to go to the tut, on her way back to the kitchen she heard Cynthia and Marie's voice, she then came as close as she could and heard everything Cynthia and Marie said

Back inside the kitchen Susan comes in and goes to Kathy

Kathy: "Geez Suze, where were you, I thought you got yourself flushed away, I can't get this ready on my own you know, especially with Reb acting like she woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning."

Susan: "Kath I've got to tell you something."

Kathy: "Yeah well it'll have to wait for now Suze, this has got to be prepared for lunch and we're late already, come over here Reb and give us a hand will ya."

Reb: "What was it you wanted, Kath."

Kathy: "The lunch that has to be prepared, y'know, like checking the pots on the stove and seeing that they don't boil over."

Reb: "Yeah  Yeah, sorry." she then goes and to the stove and takes the lid off the first pot.

Back in the laundry, Jonathan has just come in, Cynthia is still there everyone is still silent getting on with their work

Jonathan: "Hi I'm here now if you want to take a break."

Cynthia: "Where were you, you should have been here 5 minutes ago."

Jonathan: "Im sorry Miss Leach, it just so happens I was with the social worker."

Cynthia gives him a cold stare: "Well now that you've managed to tear yourself away from her at last, I can now go on my coffee break." she turns on her heel and leaves Jonathan looks at her as she's walking away but just shakes his head

The women in the laundry start chatting to one another again now that Cynthia is gone

In the staffroom Cynthia is sitting at the table drinking her coffee as Janet walks in

Janet: "Cynthia, would you please arrange for all Senior staff to be assembled at 16h00 today in the governors office."

Cynthia: "Sure Janet, but may I ask why."

Janet: "Harold wants to have a meeting about creating a special area for the inmates to have for when their families come to see them."

Cynthia: "Now why would he want to go do something like that, don't tell me he's getting soft , if it were me...."

Janet: "Please just see that it gets done, Cynthia." she then leaves the room

Cynthia has finished her coffee and is heading towards the kitchen, she opens the door and comes inside, she looks around at everyone, Edwina has just come out of the pantry and Reb knows instinctively by Edwina's reaction upon seeing Cynthia that Edwina loathes Cynthia with a passion even although Edwina has not spoken a single word to Cynthia.

Edwina: "Reb would you please empty the dustbins into the garbage disposal for me."

Reb: "Sure thing Mrs B" moves towards the dustbin

Cynthia to Edwina: "Mrs Blackmore, I would appreciate it if you would address the prisoners in the correct manner." Reb stands at the dustbin looking unsure of what to do next

Edwina ignoring Cynthia to Reb: "You go on right ahead and empty the bins, dear." to Dot "Would you mind giving Reb a hand please, Dot."

Dot: "Righty oh Ed", we see both Reb and Dot leave the kitchen with the garbage in their hands

We see them at the rubbish dump

Reb: "Geez did you see the look on that fat ugly bitch's face when Mrs B told us to bring the rubbish out.

Dot: "Yeah, I've seen it many times before and I'll be sure to see it again, Ed hates her just like the rest of us, but the leach can't push can't push Ed around like the rest of us."

Reb smiling: "Sure be fun to watch, someone able to put her in her place and her not being able to do nuthin about it."

Dot: Whatever you do, don't let the leach see you're enjoying it or she'll be after you for sure, we better get back inside now luv, and remember to put on your best poker face believe me you'll have to."

We see Reb and Dot going back inside, the lunch is ready to be served, all are attending to the task at hand, Reb glances through the corner of her eye at Cynthia

Cynthia is standing there looking absolutely enraged but says nothing to anybody, now and again she can be seen really glaring at Edwina, the inmates and Edwina are working in silence as a distinctive chill has crept into the kitchen

Later in Harold's office, Harold, Janet, Cynthia, Terry  and a couple of other officers are all assembled there.

Harold: "So I've decided to restore all the prisoners priveledges as per normal as from now, I don't think we are going to get the culprit/s by taking away all their priveledges, besides the inspector working on the case has already done a thorough investigation and questioned all the inmates more than once, they've decided to stop the investigation and list the cause of Baxter's death  as "Undetermined" for now, however should any other evidence come to the light they will prosecute."

Cynthia: "Does that mean that buyup, recreation, and all normal priveledges be restored."

Harold: "Yes it does."

Cynthia: "What about that charge I gave them for malingering in the laundry, does that still stand."

Harold: "What exactly was happening when you went to the laundry, Miss Leach"

Cynthia: "I came in and saw them malingering, Winter claimed they were having a smoko which they were'nt supposed to be doing."

Harold: "Come now Miss Leach, surely you would'nt like to have to work all day without a break of some sort, since I have decided to restore all priveledges you can drop all the charges ."

Cynthia: "But they were insubordinate..."

Harold: "I have made my decision Miss Leach, now please ensure it gets carried out."

Terry with a huge grin on his face: "Hey Cynthia, look on the bright side, at least you don't have to spend lots of time making out a long report about it."

Everone in the room looks very amused at what Terry has said except for Cynthia who is fuming

Harold: "Right if we can get on with the meeting please ladies and gentlemen." he then proceeds to tell them about the plans for the new special area being created for the inmates.

Later in the staffroom Cynthia is getting her handbag out of her locker, Terry comes into the staffroom, Cynthia turns sees him and gives him a look that would sink 1000 battleships.

Terry: "Yo Cynthia, at least you can go home and park off in front of the telly tonight instead of making out a long boring  report, eh." he laughs

Cynthia: "What the hell do you think you were playing at, making me look a fool in Freeman's office in front of everyone."

We see Katherine Freeman walk along the corridor and look as if she is just about to go into the staffroom but then she hears Cynthia and Terry's voices she stands just outside the door listening

Terry teasingly: "Relax Cynthia, don't go get those knickers of yours in a knot, Im sure you'll find someone else sooner or later to slap a charge on."

Cynthia clearly not in the mood: "Don't push me Walters, Im not in the mood for your feeble attempts at humour, what gets my goat is this place seems to getting slacker by the day."

Terry: "In what way"

Cynthia: "Freeman restoring priveledges to the scum in here, then building a special place where they can meet their equally scummy family and friends."

Terry: "Yeah, but we both know that they aren't guilty, don't we Cynthia, so why should they be punished for something they did'nt do."

Cynthia: "You stupid bastard, when will you ever learn to keep your mouth shut, anyone could have walked in and heard what you just said."

We see Katherine with a stunned expression on her face but she just slowly and silently walks away from the door to the staffroom and heads down the next corridor.

Episode 6

Katherine goes back to office, closes the door and sits down at her desk with a very worried look on her face, she then picks up the phone and dials a number, we hear a woman's voice on the other end saying hello

We see Jonathan heading down the corridor towards Katherine's office he knocks, we hear Katherine saying:"Come in", Jonathan then goes into the office, Katherine makes a gesture for him to sit down as she is still busy on the phone, she hangs up.

Jonathan: "So how's it going, who was that you were calling."

Katherine: "That was Reb Kean's mother on the phone, I told her about Reb being transferred here, but what surprises me is that she did'nt sound as shocked or horrified about it as I would have expected or very keen to come and see her, however I somehow managed to convince her to come and see Reb tomorrow."

Jonathan: "Do you want me to let Reb know that her mother's coming tomorrow."

Katherine: "No thanks Jon, tell Reb Ill see her after lunch, Ill tell her myself then."

Jonathan smiling: "So, is our dinner date still on for tonight."

Katherine: "Yes definately, besides I have something I need to tell you about."

Jonathan: "Good can't wait till then." he gets up and goes to the door, "By the way, have I told you just how beautiful you look today."

Katherine smiling: "Only about 3 times already today, but it sounds just as good each time you say it, anyway you better get back to it before "you know who" might come along."

Jonathan: "You don't have to worry about her, she's off duty now so you won't have to see her again, at least not for a while, but you're right I have to get to it, see you later." he then closes the door, Katherine's smile slowly changes into an expression of worry

In Reb and Noeline's cell, Reb is lying on the bed, Kathy and Susan have just walked into Reb and Noeline's cell

Susan: "G'day Reb, how's it going why are'nt you in the recroom having fun with the rest of us."

Reb abruptly: "I just felt like being alone, ok"

Kathy: "We were just trying to be friendly, but if you want to be alone then thats fine, however the main reason we came into the cell was to tell you something important that Suze overheard when she went to the dunny."

Reb to Susan: Yeah, what was it you heard ."

Kathy to Susan: "Tell Reb what you heard Suze, Ill keep knit for someone coming."

Susan then tells Reb exactly what she heard Cynthia and Marie talking about in the corridor at the end of it Susan asks Reb: "Who exactly is this Joan Ferguson anyway."

Reb: "That bitch Ferguson is a screw at Wentworth, a mean ugly old dyke who had her knife into me from the day, I got there, they all call her the Freak." meanwhile Kathy has stopped keeping knit now that Susan has told Reb what she overheard.

Kathy: "This Joan Ferguson sounds real bad, but Reb I can promise you one thing, the leach is so bad she makes "The Freak" look like a nun, you won't be able to survive on your own in here without friends especially if she's got her knife into you and from what Susan has told you she does."

Reb: "I can handle that bitch leach, besides I was able to handle Ferguson on my own I dont need no one, besides I've got Burke and Gaffney to help out if I ever really need help from anyone."

Kathy: "Reb, I would'nt depend on Margo or Noeline, Margo would stand by you but she's got a drug problem and she would sell you out to get a fix, with Noeline all you would have to do is show her whats best for her and then she would turn on you in a flash."

Reb: "Yeah, well how do you know I'm not like that as well, all I care about is number one."

Kathy: "Reb let me tell you something right now, you may put on this don't give a stuff...." just then Marie, Janie and Jenny come into Rebs cell.

Reb: "What do you want, Winter, why don't you and your 2 ugly friends rack off and leave us alone."

Marie: "Relax, Kean I have a proposition for you." to Kathy and Susan, "Do you mind, we'd like to have a private little chat with Kean."

Kathy to Reb: "Do you want us to leave, Reb"

Reb to Kathy "Yeah its fine, should be interesting to hear what Winter has to say, hope its not gonna be too long though" Kathy and Susan leave the cell but stand a little way down the corridor, Reb to Marie: "What is it that I could possibly want from you Winter."

Marie: "How about being a runner for me, Ill give you a large part of the profits."

Reb: "Yeah, like what 25% and I have to take all the risks and take the fall by myself if a screw finds out about it."

Marie: "Yeah, well we all take risks y'know but no Ill give you 50% profits"

Reb with sarcasm: "Yeah what a wonderful idea, now I've heard your proposition Ill tell ya want I think of it, it stinks."

Marie: "But just think..."

Reb: "I've told ya what I think, now rack off."

Marie to Janie and Jenny:"Grab her." the grab her meanwhile Kathy and Susan heard the scuffling and come running back into Reb's cell

Kathy very cool and unwavering with a grim look: "Make your 2 lapdogs let go of Kean now, Winter." she walks up to Janie grabs her arm"I said let go of Kean, Turner." Jenny has meanwhile let go of Reb, Janie lets go too and stands with Marie and Jenny, Kathy to Marie: "Have you finished saying what you wanted to say to Kean, Winter."

Marie: "Yeah, for the moment." to Reb, "Did you give Winter an answer Kean."

Reb: "Yeah I told her to stick it and to rack off."

Kathy: "So now that you've  finished why do you still doing in here, Winter??,.... which part of Keans answer to you do you have a problem with undertanding, Winter ??"

Marie ( looking straight into Kathy face which is hard and unrelenting and very intimidating) says to Janie and Jenny: "Lets go" to Reb: "We'll see ya later Kean."

Kathy stands watching them leave with the same grim look on her face as when she and Susan come into the cell says to Susan: "Susan, please make sure Winter and her lackeys aren't standing outside the door." Susan goes to the door and sees Marie, Janie and Jenny there, she comes in and nods her head, Kathy and Susan then go out of Reb's cell and sees Marie, Jenny and Janie standing just outside the cell

Kathy: "Don't you know its extremely rude to stand and eavesdrop on someone else's private conversation, Winter??,... you're really testing my patience today, Winter!!!,... why don't you rack off before I lose my temper and wipe the floor with you and both your mates, Winter.!!!"

Janie: "Lets go Marie, before she blows her top." Marie cackles and they walk away in the direction of the recroom, Kathy is watching them go, once satisfied they're gone they go back into Reb's cell.

Kathy: "Think about what I've said Kean, if you need friends me and Suze are more than willing to be friends with you, but we won't push ourselves on you, when we become friends or if we become friends is entirely up to you, whenever you're ready just let us know, we're just 2 cells away from you." to Susan, "Lets go Susan and let Reb make up her mind as to what she really wants."

Reb takes the pillow on her bed and throws it across the room in anger as Kathy's words hit home, a few moments later the bell rings for muster, Jonathan and Beverley are there, Jonathan says to Reb: "Miss Freeman wants to see you today Reb, Ill take you there straight after lunch."

Katherine is in her office with the same worried expression when Reb and Jonathan come along the corridor, Jonathan knocks on the door, Katherine: "Come in", they go inside

Jonathan to Katherine: "I'll be back in about 30 minutes." he leaves the room

Katherine: "No problem Mr Grant, sit down Reb I won't be a minute." she then picks up a file and files it in the cabinet, "So how's it going have you settled in yet."

Reb: "Yeah, I guess you could say that."

Katherine looking closely at Reb: "Is there something worrying you."

Reb: "Is that what you wanted to see me for, to ask me what's worrying me, what makes you think something's worrying me."

Katherine: "No that wasn't the reason I asked to see you, but I can just sense that something's worrying you thats all, if you don't want to talk about it fine, however when and if you do want to talk about it you can come to me any time."

Reb: "Its nothing I can't handle."

Katherine: "Reb, the reason I asked to see you was to let you know that I managed to contact your mother and that she's coming to see you tomorrow."

Reb with a small smile: "Oh that's great what did she say when you told her I was here, was she upset did she say she can't wait to see me."

Katherine trying to force a smile: "Your mother was very surprised when she found out your were transferred here, and Im sure she's looking very forward to coming to see you tomorrow."

Reb: "Yeah, I can't wait to see her either", she then tells Katherine about the time she and Deidre escaped from the hospital and landed in Wentworth together and that after many years of strife that they had finally made their peace after Deirde was attacked by Lou and Lurch. Jonathan appears at the door, "I've come to take Reb back to the kitchen, Miss Freeman."

Katherine to Jonathan: "Thanks Mr Grant." to Reb, "If you ever need to talk about anything, you know where to come"

Reb to Katherine" Thanks Miss Freeman," to Jonathan "Im ready to go back now, thanks Mr Grant." they leave Katherine's office the worried expression she had before returns and tears start to form at the corner of her eyes."

Katherine then picks up the phone and dials a number: " Hi Beverley??..would it be possible for me to see Kathy Bates sometime today,... Oh thats great, 30 minutes from now sounds good, could you please let her know, thanks Bev."

Meanwhile Reb and Jonathan walk along the corridor

Jonathan: "You look a lot more cheerful now then you did before, I hope Miss Freeman had good news for you."

Reb: "Yeah, my mum's coming to see me tomorrow, is that great.'

Jonathan: "Im real glad for you Reb, I know Katherine tried all day yesterday and she finally got..." they then turn the corner and run straight into Cynthia who has returned to duty.

Cynthia as cold as ice to Jonathan: " I want a word with you right now, Mr Grant." to Reb even colder and with contempt " Get yourself to the end of the corridor and wait for me at the security gate, Kean." Reb moves away the happy expression on her face gone

Cynthia: "What the hell do you think you're playing at, getting familiar with the scum in her, and you will NEVER ever refer to any member of the staff by their first name again, am I making myself clear to you."

Jonathan: "Now wait just a minute Miss Leach, that girl was down in the dumps before she went to see Katherine and she is only happy that her mother is coming to see her tomorrow, whats so wrong about her being happy and me being happy for her."

Cynthia: "That's not the issue, you deliberately break the rules by encouraging familiarity, may I remind you that I am a senior officer..." just then Terry comes along the corridor from the opposite direction he has heard everything

Terry seemingly amused: "What are you nattering for like an old hen for now Cynthia, and what imaginery charge do you want to slap on an inmate this time."

Cynthia turns on him shouting: "You stay out of this, Walters, this is between me and Grant."

Terry smile vanished instantly he then gestures for  Cynthia and Jonathan to go to an empty office nearby once inside says he says Cynthia: "Not when you're screetching like a banshee in heat for the whole prison to hear, its not, I could hear you raving like a lunatic from the other end of the corridor and I'm sure Kean could hear it from the security gate, you don't realise how shrill and loud your voice can be sometimes, Cynthia."

Cynthia:" How dare you undermine me" she then slaps Terry

Terry grabs her arms and pins her and says: "You will control yourself at once, Cynthia, you will go out of this door when I release you and you will go where you are assigned to work without any further fuss, as I don't want to have to explain to the governor why there are 3 officers who are supposed to be on active duty standing here bickering for some minor detail that you seem to find so important that has no real bearing on how the prison should be run." he lets go of Cynthia she storms out the office in the opposite direction.

Terry: "Its fine now Jon, you can take Kean back to the laundry now."

Johnathan: "Thanks mate, for saving me from her."

Terry: "Yeah, the woman has such a big mouth she can't keep it shut for more than a minute." they leave the office together Jonathan then takes Reb to the kitchen.

Inside the kitchen lunch is almost cooked and ready to serve

Edwina: "Good, glad to see you're back with us Reb, especially since Kath's gone, would you mind giving Dot a hand, please."

Reb: "Sure." walks over to Dot and starts helping Dot but she is'nt in the mood to talk so Dot doesn't say anything to her

Edwina to Jonathan: "So how did you enjoy the steak and kidney pie last night Mr Grant."

Jonathan with a huge grin: "It was terrific Mrs Blackmore, one of the best I've tasted in a long time." just then Kathy comes back into the kitchen.

Edwina: "So glad you enjoyed it dear, to Kathy, "Kathy could you please start taking the cutlery and crockery to the kitchen for me, can you give her a hand please Reb."

Reb moves away from Dot abruptly and starts putting crockery and cutlery into a tray and starts taking it into the diningroom, Kathy goes with her, but Reb and Kathy don't say anything to one another as Reb is clearly not in the mood to talk to anyone.

Jonathan and Katherine are off duty and are sitting in a cosy corner in a nice little restuarant

Jonathan: "For the 4th time today, I have to tell you just how beautiful you look."

Katherine: "I'm so glad you keep saying that to me, because it prepares me for what I have to say to you."

Jonathan looking worried: "I hope you're not getting tired of me amd don't love me anymore."

Katherine: "No Ill never be tired of you, I love you too."

Jonathan: "Im happy to hear that, I fell in love with you, the day you arrived at the prison."

Katherine taking Jonathan's hands and holding them in her hands: "Jon, what I've got to tell you about concerns the prison, I discovered something today that I feel I have talk to someone about, Ill go to dad about it sometime but I need you to be there for me and hold me"

Jonathan : "Since we've finished here now, let me take you to my house and we can talk about it there."

Katherine: "Id love to" They both pay the bill and leave the restuarant, Jonathan house is 2 blocks away

Once inside Jonathan kisses Kathy and they sit on the sofa together with him holding her in his arms, after a couple of minutes Jonathan: "Lets make a cuppa before you tell me whats on your mind." he then goes and makes himself and Katherine a cup of tea.

Jonathan very gently: " Now what is it you needed to tell me about the prison."

Katherine: I called Kathy Bates to my office as I needed to let her know that there's going to be a parole hearing set for her in 2 months time, I knew there was something wrong with Reb Kean when she came to see me so I asked Kathy if she knew anything about it, Kathy told me that Susan had gone to the toilet and on the way back to the kitchen, she heard voices and came closer so she could hear the conversation, when she got close enough she knew one of them was that leach woman and the other Marie Winter, Susan was able to hear the entire conversation which had a lot to do about a certain officer working in Wentworth Detention Centre named Joan Ferguson."

Jonathan :"What does this Joan Ferguson have to do with all of this though.?"

Katherine: "The conversation went something like the leach woman wanting to have Reb Kean put in solitary or to get a beating in the next couple of days and that she wanted Marie Winter to arrange it ."

Jonathan: "Did Winter agree to do it."

Katherine: "Yes after a bit of friendly persuasion from the leach woman so that means that the leach woman is gunning for Reb Kean for some reason which involves Joan Ferguson, in fact Marie and 2 of her friends Janie and Jenny tried to heavy Reb already today but Kathy says she chased them off."

Jonathan tells Katherine about the scene that took place between Cynthia and him before Terry came along, "It seem like you were right Katherine, she looked at Reb Kean as if she really hated her guts, she does'nt seem to like any of the inmates but there are some she dislikes more than others, it looks like someone is going to have to keep an eye on her."

Katherine: "What really gets me is there's no proof of this or the other thing I found out earlier today."

Jonathan: "What, there's more!!!"

Katherine: "Yes much more and it has to do with something I heard outside the staffroom."

Jonathan: "Come on Kath, tell me what you heard."

Katherine: "I know now with absolute certainty that Janine Baxter was'nt killed by an inmate."

Jonathan sits there in stunned and horrified silence

Episode 7

Jonathan after about 1 minute of horrified silence: "Does that mean what I think it means, was Janine Baxter's death an accident after all, or was it murder."

Katherine: "Janine Baxter's death was murder, only she was'nt killed by any of the inmates," Katherine then tells Johnathan what she overheard in the staffroom

Jonathan very shocked: "I know Cynthia and Terry can be very hard with the inmates sometimes, but I never would have suspected them of murdering one of them."

Katherine: "The worst thing of all is that it would be impossible to prove that they killed her, its my word against theirs and I bet they have watertight alibi's, what worries me the most it could have happened before and it could easily happen again."

Reb is lying on the bed in her and Noeline's cell, just then Margo and Noeline come into the dorm.

Margo: "Hey Reb, Noeline managed to arrange for her brother to come and visit tomorrow."

Reb: "Yeah, it would be great to see Winter's little rackets disappear from right under her nose, and for me to be the one that makes it happen." to Noeline:"So where's he gonna deliver the package."

Noeline: "Right under the bloody screws noses, just kidding, he'll let me know when he sees me, when he lets me know, one of us can pick it up during exercise period tomorrow."

Reb: "Start spreading the word around to the others that a shipment is coming in soon, but not to let Winter know about it."

Just then Terry comes to the door: "Right time for lock up, Gaffney get back to your own cell." Margo leaves Reb and Marie's cell, we see her in her cell with Marie Winter.

Marie and Margo are in bed the lights go out

Marie: "Say, Margo you don't know what Kean is up to by any chance do you."

Margo: "Come on Marie, how would I know what Kean does or what she's planning to do."

Marie: "You seem to be gettin real friendly with her lately as well as with Burke, you better not be screwing with me Gaffney."

Margo: "Relax Winter, you've got that bitch leach eating out of your pocket now, I don't see how Kean could possibly get the better of you."

Marie: "Yeah and you better not forget it either."

In Reb and Noeline's cell

Noeline: "So we get Margo to get the pick up tomorrow."

Reb: "Yeah but we've got to make sure a screw doesn't catch her as well as Winter seeing , we need to create a good diversion, I would'nt mind having a go at Winter myself, just to show her whose boss around here, besides Im fed up with her and her flea circus always wanting to have a go at me, maybe we can fix it that they do some time in the pound for a coupla days, enough time to clean her out and to take over her rackets, when she gets out she'll have nothing."

Noeline: "Only problem is Winter seems to have that ugly fat bitch Leach on her side, and Leach seems to be gunning for you too."

Reb: "I'll fix the Leach bitch as well, don't worry I have big plans for her."

Noeline: "Yeah it may not be that easy though, from what I hear she's no fool she makes old vinegar tits look like a big pussycat, I would'nt underestimate the bitch."

Reb: "Yeah, but I know how to fix her, it's just a matter of careful planning."

At Harold at Katherine's home, Harold is sitting watching a footy match on the telly when Katherine and Jonathan walk in

Katherine: "Hi Dad, how was your day today."

Harold: "Same as usual, we just won the footy match." he turns the tv off, sees Jonathan, :"Hi Jonathan care for something to drink."

Jonathan: "Why Sir, thanks I think Ill just have a cup of coffee."

Harold gets up: "No worries, how about you Kath."

Katherine: "I'll have the same a Jon, thanks Dad." Harold comes through with the coffee and some biscuits.

Harold: "There's something on both your minds Kath, don't you think you'd better tell me what it is."

Katherine: "I think you better sit down while you hear this, trust me you'll need to."

Harold with a smile: "Surely the two of you possibly deciding to get married won't be likely to put a big strain on this old heart of mine."

Katherine: "No that's not it, at least not this time, please sit down Dad, I have to tell you something real important, it's got something to do with the prison." Harold sits down, Katherine and Jonathan tell him everything.

Harold after quite a long silence: "I admit I've never liked Cynthia Leach or even Terry Walters, but they were sent to me from the department highly recommended and both of them have unblemished and perfect records of service and always seemed to have done things strictly by the book, if there's any foul play, it's as you said Kath, how could it possibly ever be proved."

Katherine: "The only way is to catch them doing it, and we can't just take a prisoner's word over theirs either, what has to happen is that a couple or more officers have to catch them red handed, only trouble is you don't know when and where its going to happen."

Harold: "I know when that new girl was brought to my office, what's her name again, oh Reb Kean, said something about Cynthia and Terry roughing her up when she was inducted, and I thought she was lying especailly as she had a history of falsely accusing officers of abusing her when she was at Wentworth, I did'nt believe her at the time, but now I wonder if it possibly could be true after all, I think I might just get in touch with the governor there, Ann Reynolds and ask her, her own personal opinion on the matter."

Katherine: "Dad, Reb told me about the way Miss Leach and Terry inducted her too.", she then tells Harold about what Reb told her about the stairwell incident involving Reb and Joan,"Dad you know something, I believe every word she said, I know she can lie and cheat sometimes, but I KNOW she was telling me truth about that officer Ferguson at Wentworth and about Cynthia and Terry ,only I did'nt tell you this before because I only had my own suspicions and no facts to support them"

Harold: "Ill see if I can get in touch with Ann Reynolds sometime tomorrow , we won't do anything for the moment, we'll all go to work tomorrow and act like it's a normal day in prison life, Jonathan, I know you have to work closer with them than Kath or myself have to, please don't let them know that we suspect anything, do you think you'll be able to do that Jonathan."

Jonathan: "I think so, besides the fewer people who know this the better, besides someone has to look out for the inmates."

Harold: "Good Jonathan, however if Mrs Reynolds gives me the answer Im expecting her to give me, Ill have to let Janet O' Connell know about this as well, so that we can set a trap for them, in the meantime I cannot stress just how important it is for all of us to act as if we normally would with them."

The next day in the kitchen all are working and except Reb, Dot and Susan who are petting Sassy who came into the kitchen about 10 minutes ago.

Edwina trying to appear to be stern: "Come along girls, we need all the hands we can get here, the food's not gonna get ready by itself y'know."

Dot: "Oh please Ed, just another minute, y'know how we all love Sassy so."

Edwina: "We all love Sassy, but when she comes in very little work gets done, for all we know an officer could be on the way here right now," just then Sassy goes Myoewrrmm and flies out the kitchen, Edwina, "Now see what I mean, that Leach woman is on her way here right now." all quickly get on with what they're supposed to be doing

The kitchen door opens and Cynthia comes in walks around the kitchen inspecting everything and says to Edwina:"What's being going on in here Mrs Blackmore, surely the mid day meal should be progressing a lot faster than it appears to be right now."

Edwina with minimal civility :"We had a slight hitch that's all, nothing that could'nt be fixed, don't worry Miss Leach the midday meal will be ready on time." she then turns and gets on with what she was doing, says to Reb: "Could you go get the flour from the pantry for me please Reb"

Cynthia can be seen glaring at Edwina next she looks at Reb:"Get outside Kean."

Reb ignores Cynthia and goes into the pantry and looks like she's busy looking for the flour."

Edwina: "I'm sorry Miss Leach I don't think she heard you, Ill go get her for you." Edwina goes into the pantry glares after Edwina says nothing

Reb:"Yeah, what does the stinking bitch want now."

Edwina: "I dunno dear, but you best go get it over with, trust me it could be worse if you don't."

Reb and Edwina go out the pantry, Reb is carrying the flour, Cynthia glares at Reb and snarls: "Get outside here now, Kean if you dont want to find yourself on a charge, Reb quickly leaves the kitchen her and Cynthia are just outside the kitchen door

Cynthia: "When I tell you to do something Kean I expect it to be done immediately right there and then, don't ever ignore a direct order given to you by me ever again, or you'll find yourself in more trouble than you can possibly ever imagine."

Reb insolently smirking: "Im so sorry I did'nt hear you Miss Leach, I thought I heard a funny noise on the way to get the flour I just didn't realise then that it was you till Mrs B told me."

Cynthia: "Kean, you're on a charge for insolence, and if I were you Id take that arrogant smirk off your face before I take it off for you." she is about to grab Reb who is looking at her defiantly just then Katherine appears around the corner: "G'day Miss Leach, How are you today Reb."

Reb: "Im just fine, thanks Miss Freeman, How are you?."

Katherine: "Fine, but you know how it goes, busy day ahead today, Id like to see you sometime today, thats if it could be arranged please, Miss Leach."

Cynthia:"Ill see if it can be arranged for later today or tomorrow, the receptionist will let you know"

Katherine: "Thanks Miss Leach, by the way Reb I saw your mother standing in the prison yard on my way in."

Cynthia: " We were just on our way there now," Katherine walks on towards her office Cynthia grabs Reb by the collar:"but if you don't want to see your mother just carry on with your insolence and you'll find yourself in the pound instead."

 Reb: "Sorry about that Miss Leach, where is my mum now."

Cynthia: "Thats better Kean," gives her a cold stare, "Right this way," they walk down the corridor and go outside, Diedre Kean is waiting outside pacing up and down

Cynthia: "You have 15 minutes."

Reb runs to Deidre and throws her arms around her: "Mum you came, boy am I ever glad to see you."

Cynthia: "You should know the rules by now, no physical contact."

Reb: "Lets take a walk mum."

Deidre: "What happened Rebecca, what did you do to get yourself sent here, I got a phone call from the social worker here telling me you had been transferred here, I must say she sounded most distressed as she had been trying to get me for a while but I was out."

Reb motioning for Diedre to move whispering: "Lets walk a bit I don't want the screw to hear anything." they walk a distance away from Cynthia: "That bitch Ferguson managed to set me up and they shipped me here, she tells Deidre about what happened at Wentworth and about her induction here,:"You see that bitch screw over there, the Freak made sure she's got her claws into me, she's just waiting for a chance to chuck me in the pound and throw away the key."

Deidre: "I saw for myself just what a nasty piece of work Miss Ferguson and now this one here looks to be the same if not worse, but Rebecca, don't you think you could have brought some of this on yourself, by what you did to Myra and the others."

Reb: "Desmond had it coming for a long time no one makes my name mud and gets away with it, I was topdog I had it made and she turned all the other women against me, Im just sorry I did'nt get to really lay into her before the Freak came in and stopped it."

Deidre: "Oh dear, you really must learn to think things through before you act on them Rebecca, this isnt the first time you've been in trouble because you've done something impulsive without thinking of the consequences that may follow, anyway what's done is done and you'll just have to accept it and try stay out of trouble as best you know how, by the way I managed to get off the charges that were brought against me for helping you to escape that time from the hospital."

Reb: "Oh that's great Mum, I'm so pleased you got off, at least you'll be able to visit me now and again then, eh."

Deidre: "I honestly don't know when Ill be able to come and see you again, Rebecca."

Reb: "You will come and see me again, you can't leave me in here please I need you..."

Cynthia: "Time's up."

They go back to reception Deidre signs out as she is about to leave

Reb: "You will come and see me again next week, won't you mum."

Deidre: "Ill see, I can try but I can't promise anything, of course if I can't come Ill let the social worker know, goodbye Rebecca." she turns and leaves and dissapears from view

Reb runs after Deidre: "Mum, mum please don't leave me here on my own, please say you'll be back" but Deidre is gone and Reb comes back inside

Cynthia with a cruel smirk: "Well, Well,  from what it looks like even your own mother doesn't want to know you, Isnt it a shame."

Reb turns, looks at Cynthia sees the cruel smirk on her face and flies at Cynthia and starts swearing at her and starts to lay into Cynthia, unknown to them Janet was there from the time Deirdre disappeared from view at the door to reception and heard the whole exchange. Meanwhile Cynthia has managed to restrain Reb and overpower her, just then

Janet: "Just exactly what the hell is going on here."

Cynthia: "Kean just started attacking me for no reason, Miss O'Conner."

Janet: "From what I saw I would'nt say it was for no reason , however Kean I cannot allow you to attack an officer and for the attack to go unpunished , so you are confined to 24 hours solitary, Miss Leach will you please escort her there without any more unneccessary fuss and when you're finished I'd like to see you in the governors office immediately please, Ill be waiting there for you."Janet leaves reception

Cynthia to Reb: "Move it Kean, you know the way." Reb is now calmer and just accompanies Cynthia to solitary once at solitary Cynthia opens the door: "Get inside Kean." once inside Reb goes over to the bed and lies down on it

Cynthia locks the cell to solitary and we see her knocking on the governors office door, Janet is sitting at the governors desk with an angry and grim look on her face

Janet:"Come in." Cynthia goes in

Janet: "What I've got to say to you will be brief and to the point, I witnessed the whole scene in reception and I can honestly tell you right now, my sympathies are entirely with Kean, if I ever catch you harassing an inmate on a personal level like that again, I will personally make it my mission to see that you are sent packing once and for all from the prison service do you hare me."

Cynthia: "Come on, you can't tell me someone like Kean has real feelings, all she know what to do is cheat, lie..."

Janet: "THAT will be all Miss Leach, may I remind you that I am your superior and you WILL obey any order I give you, and I am ORDERING you to stop harrasing the inmates uneccessarily from now on, DO I make myself clear."

Cynthia sneering: "Yes Mrs O'Connell."

Janet: "Right, you can go back to your duties, and Miss Leach as far as I'm concerned Kean has already paid for this by the 24 hours she will now spend in solitary, am I making myself absolutely clear to you."

Cynthia: "Yes."

Janet: "Good you can go back to your duties now." Cynthia leaves the office and walks down the corridor, she takes something out of her pocket, it's a plastic toy car she picked up earlier when one of the inmate's children came to visit and one of the kids had left it behind, her face slowly goes purple with sheer rage and she crushes the toy car in her hand she walks a little further down the corridor and throws the remains of the toy car inside the nearest rubbish bin.

Episode 8

Katherine is sitting in her office talking to Susan Short

Katherine: "So Ill see what I can do about it immediately, Ill talk to the governor later, Im so glad you want to complete your HSC after all"

Susan: "Yeah, Kath made me see the light, you know she's just like a big sister to me, she does'nt want me to make the same mistakes she made."

Katherine: "Yes, Kathy is one of those few people that you can fully trust and depend on, thats so rare these days especially when some people that seem to care are just shallow and full of empty promises , which played a large part in Kathy ending up in prison in the first place."

Susan: "Thanks so much for all you've done Miss Freeman, knowing you really care about us makes being here so much easier to handle, especially when you get some screws here that like to make us suffer even more."

Katherine: "Thanks Susan, I really care about all the inmates in here, I even care about the one's who I somehow have been unable to reach yet, I don't think most of them are as untouchable as they make out, it's just they lack self esteem and have been put down for so long they see themselves as losers that don't belong or have a place in decent society especially as when many of them leave, they have no qualifications and no one will employ them because they have a criminal record, they feel they have nowhere else to turn so they end up back inside and the whole vicious circle starts all over again."

Just then Beverley appears at the door and knocks

Katherine: "Come in." Beverley comes in

Beverley: " I've come to take Short to lunch, Miss Freeman."

Katherine: "That's fine Miss Carter." to Susan: "Ill let you know about the HSC very soon Susan."

Susan: "Thanks Miss Freeman."

Beverley: "Would you wait for me at the security gate please Susan, I'd like to have a word with Miss Freeman." Susan goes out Beverley closes the door

Katherine: "What up Bev."

Beverley: "I just came on duty now and heard from Mrs O' Connell that Reb Kean was put back into solitary for 24 hours for attacking Miss Leach, it was something to do with Reb's mother visiting earlier, I heard that Miss Leach was needling Reb and she went off her head and attacked Cynthia, apparently it seems as if Reb's mother wasn't too keen to come here and visit her again."

Katherine: "Damn that woman, can't she see that her daughter needs her more than ever now, Good Lord Beverley, the woman does'nt have to approve of what Reb has done, but that's no excuse to just abandon her in here, Ill get on the phone to Diedre Kean later and try to make her see reason, she has to care especially after all that they've recently been through together."

Beverley: "I know how you feel Kath, but sometimes you can't force people to care especially when they are only out for themselves and worried about their own reputations and self comforts."

Katherine: "At this present time that seems to be my exact opinion of Deidre Kean, I only hope to God Im wrong Beverley, I certainly will keep trying to get her to come visit Reb again."

Beverley: "Anyway I better go, let me know how you get on later."

Katherine: "Sure thing Bev, I have to go to the governor's office just now, anyway." Beverley leaves the office

Harold Freeman is sitting in the chair in his office talking to Janet O'Connell who is telling him about the incident in reception earlier involving Reb and Cynthia

Janet: "I had to put Kean in solitary earlier today Harold, but I can tell you I wanted to put Cynthia there instead."

Harold: "I am going to arrange a meeting for later this afternoon Janet, I am going to make it absolutely clear that I will NOT tolerate any officer harrassing or verbally abusing any inmate any longer, there's been far too may rumours circulating recently."

Janet: "I could'nt agree more, the prisoners are here to be punished if they break the rules, but that doe'snt constitute what I witnessed earlier today."

Just then Katherine knocks on the door

Harold: "Come In."

Katherine: "Im so sorry Governor, I did'nt realise you and Mrs O' Connell were having a meeting."

Harold: "No problem, Katherine we'll be about another 15 minutes or so, I ring through to your office when I'm finished."

Katherine: "Thanks Governor." she then closes the door and goes back to her office

Reb is in solitary she lying on the bed, it appears as if she has been crying, she hears a familiar noise by the bed, Sassy is in the cell, she jumps on the bed.

Reb: "Sassy, oh Sassy you came to see me." she picks Sassy up in her arms and is holding her close, Sassy is purring loudly and rubbing her face against Reb's

Meanwhile in the kitchen the evening meal is being prepared, Beverley is standing at the door, Kath has just cracked a very funny joke and all are laughing including Beverley, a few minutes later everything is back to normal and all are working, Dot puts some food on a couple of plates

Beverley to Edwina: "Mrs Blackmore which one of these meals is for solitary."

Edwina: "Sorry dear, I didn't know someone was in solitary, here let me get it ready for you." Edwina then puts some food on a plate and covers it with a lid, Edwina suddenly realises something."Oh don't tell me it's Reb Kean that's in solitary."

Kath: "What!! Reb's in the pound, I thought she was with Miss Freeman, what happened"

Beverley: "Yes Im afraid so, she attacked Miss Leach earlier today, she's there for 24 hours, would you like accompany me to solitary with the meal, please Kath."

Kath:" Sure thing, Miss Carter."

They go in the direction of the solitary cell

Reb hears the door being unlocked, she breathes easier because she knows it's not Cynthia, Beverley and Kathy come inside, Kathy puts the plate down

Beverley: "You have 2 minutes Kathy." she stands outside the cell door

Kath: "How you doin."

Reb: "Whats it look like, I got myself chucked in here ok, now why don't you just rack off and leave me alone."

Kath: "If that's the way you want it fine, but Reb the time is going to come when you will listen to me and Ill tell you something, Im so looking forward to that day, I only hope it's sooner rather than later." she turns to leave the cell

Reb: "Oh Kath, Im sorry I did'nt mean to take your head off, I don't know what comes over me sometimes, sometimes I just take off and say the wrong thing."

Kath: "Yeah, don't worry I understand, I was once a bit hot headed like you not too long ago.."

Beverley: "Come along Bates, the 2 minutes are up."

Kathy: "Coming Miss Carter," to Reb, "We'll talk tomorrow when you get out."

Reb: "Bye Kath."

Reb is alone again eating her supper, "Mrs B you sure knows how to cook a good meal."

In Katherine's office she is busy with a telephone call

Katherine: "But Mrs Kean, Rebecca really needs you right now."......"Im so sorry you feel that way, I guess there's not much point in continuing this conversation is there"...."Bye" she puts down the phone, just then it rings again: "OK dad, Ill be there in 5 minutes."

Katherine knocks on Harolds door

Harold: "Come in." Katherine goes in they are alone in the office: "Whats up Kath"

Katherine: "I was just on the phone with Reb's mother, Deidre Kean, from what it appears to be to me is that she has met a man who is a well known socialite and I cannot get her to come and visit Reb, quite frankly Dad it appears as if she's ashamed of her own daughter and does'nt want to admit that her daughter is in prison, especially not here at Blackmoor."

Harold: "Its always a shame when the prisoner's families react that way towards them, It's hard enough being in prison and sometimes it's the only thing they have to look forward to."

They then start talking about the HSC that Susan wants to apply for amongst other things

Katherine: "Dad, did you manage to speak to Mrs Reynolds yet."

Harold: "No not yet, I thought about it and I think its best to try call her when I get home."

Just then there is a knock on the door, Cynthia comes in: "Sorry Governor, did'nt realise you were busy."

Harold: "We should'nt be much longer Miss Leach would you mind waiting outside please."

Katherine: "I think we were just about finished anyway, thanks again Governor." she then leaves the office

Harold: "Please sit down Miss Leach." Cynthia sits down :"Miss Leach, I have heard from Mrs O'Connell that you were taunting Reb Kean about her visit with her mother today, I'm going to have a meeting just now, may I tell you right now I will NOT tolerate this form of abuse towards any inmate from you anymore, do I make myself clear."

Cynthia: "Yes Governor, but Kean is nothing but a troublemaker.."

Harold: "That may be so to a certain degree and if I find she has been making trouble she will be duly punished for it, However there is simply NO excuse for what you did yesterday, am I making myself clear."

Cynthia: "Yes governor, it won't happen again."

Harold: "Good, you may now return to your duties, Miss Leach." Cynthia leaves the office

Later it is dark and the women are in their cell for lockup, Cynthia and Beverley are on night duty

Cynthia is sitting in the office drinking her coffee, we see a flashback to scenes which took place 15 years earlier....

We see a younger Cynthia without the scars on her face or the hard look on her face now patrolling the corridors of the prison we hear someone crying out in one of the cell, Cynthia opens the door and there is an old lady app 70 years of age

Cynthia: "Whats the matter, Edith."

Edith: "I am in such pain, Miss Leach, do you think I can get a painkiller or something to ease the pain."

Cynthia: "Don't worry Edith, Ill go get you a painkiller and a sleeping tablet from the infirmary." she then goes out the cell, later she comes back: "Here we go Edie, I only hope it takes the pain away." she gives it to Edith

Edith: "Thanks Miss Leach, you are such a good kind officer, I've never met anyone who cares as much for us as you do."

Cynthia gives Edith a hug: "You go to sleep Edith, Ill be along to check on you later." Cynthia goes out the cell

Edith softly: "May the Lord bless you, Miss Leach for your goodness towards us." she then falls asleep
......

We see Cynthia saying goodbye to her colleagues with whom she is very friendly and jovial, she walks up the driveway to her house opens it and says what she always used to say: "Hey mum, Im home." only this time there is no answer, Cynthia looks worried but she is totally unprepared for the horrific sight awaiting her in the lounge, she goes into the lounge and sees the room in total chaos, then she sees her mother who has been brutally murdered, not only was she stabbed more than 75 times, a few of her limbs were sawn off with a chainsaw, Cynthia was completely devestated and cried for months after it but what changed Cynthia from kind and caring prison officer to a cruel sadistic corrupt officer was the fact that one of the prisoners she had helped to get released from prison a couple of months back was responsible for the murder of her mother, unfortunately the woman bore a slight resemblance to Reb Kean.....

Cynthia comes back to the present, her face hardens she gets up from the chair, goes to the locker and takes out a pair of black gloves, we see her head out towards solitary

Reb is lying on the bed in the cell, she is awake, Sassy is on the bed and suddenly every hackle rises, she is hissing and growling she goes out the cell.

The door opens and Cynthia walks in and closes it: "ON YOUR FEET KEAN."

Reb: "Yeah, what do you want now."

Cynthia:"Im going to give you the long overdue beating you should have got when you first got here, you've made a fool of me Kean by your little performance today, I dont like being made a fool of and you're about to find out how I react by being made a fool of by scum such as yourself"

Reb: "You got me chucked in the pound and you've made my life hell from the minute I got here, you wanns know something I was wrong about Ferguson being the biggest bitch screw on the planet, I gotta say Lady you sure as hell beat her by miles, but tell me something how are you gonna bash me now and explain to the other screws where all the bruises came from"

Cynthia softly menacingly putting on the goves: "Don't you worry Kean, I've got ways of making you explore extreme pain without you showing a single mark." she then goes to Reb and starts pulling her off the bed, Reb gives Cynthia a punch in the gut.

Meanwhile outside Rufus and Butch have started barking frantically, they are running up and down outside the door to solitary

Cynthia has managed to overpower Reb and gives her a few hard whacks on the back on her head, she then also punches Reb hard a few times in the kidneys, when she's finished she throws Reb back on the bed, the dogs barking outside has become frantic and more vicious and had they not been there the beating Reb endured would have been much more severe: "And don't even think of running to one of the other officers about this Kean, just remember I can get you anyplace, anytime, do you hear me..I SAID DO YOU HEAR ME!!!"

Reb: "Yes, Yes."

Cynthia: "Yes what."

Reb: "Yes Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Just don't try cross me again Kean, this is just a taste of what you'll get." she leaves the cell and unlocks the door as she turns she sees Rufus and Butch, they are both growling menacingly at her she quickly goes back inside the main building

Reb is lying on the bed holding her sides and she is sobbing

The next day Reb is released from solitary and is back in her cell, lying on the bed when suddenly she gets up and we see her head towards Kath, Susan and Dot's cell, Susan and Kathy are playing chess on a minuture chess board suddenly

Susan: "Check and mate."

Kathy: "What!, how!, why oh why does this keep happening to me, how'd you get me this time."

Dot laughs, Susan starts explaining, suddenly

Reb: "Hi, is it ok if I come in."

Kathy: "Hi Reb, glad to see you out of the pound, helps me to get over the fact Suze beat me yet again, come and join us."

Reb: "Thanks." she then pulls a chair and sits by them

Kathy: "Now are we ready to have that talk we talked about when you were in the pound, yesterday."

Reb: "Yes absolutely."

Episode 9

Susan and Dot come and sit on Kathy's bed Reb is sitting by the bed on a chair

Dot: "Say Reb, I could'nt help but notice that you winced when you pulled up the chair, are you okay."

Reb: "It's nothing, I think I just slept in the wrong angle last night, the pound's not the most comfortable place to get peace and quiet or a good night's rest.

Kathy jovially: "Anyone feel like a cuppa, y'know I really feel like a cuppa?"

Dot and Susan: "Yeah what a great idea." Reb:"Yeah sounds good to me too."

Dot smiling:"Ok, I get the message." she then gets up to make 4 cups of tea for them, they sit in silence for a few minutes

Kathy much more serious: "Reb, don't you think it's time you told us why you winced in pain when you brought the chair to the bed."

Reb: "That ugly bitch Leach came and really layed into me in the pound last night, she bashed my skull a few times and punched me in the guts, it would have been worse if the dogs weren't barking like crazy outside, that stinking lousy bitch has had it in for me since the second I set foot in this stinking dump."

After a few seconds of stunned silence

Kathy: "I somehow knew it must have been something like that, it's not the first time that bitch has ever visited someone in the pound, but Reb you were lucky Butch and Rufus were there and barking, as far as I know they don't usually go anywhere near the pound when someone gets sent there, the only other time I've ever heard of Rufus or Butch being near the pound is when I got sent there as soon as we first got here."

Reb stunned: "You mean Sassy does'nt come visit everyone that gets sent to the pound."

Kathy: "Some of them get visitors alright, but never Sassy, except for me and now you, I've never heard of it ever happening to anyone in this block ever before, by the way, Suze and Dot have never been chucked in the pound yet

Reb: "How did you get chucked into the pound."

We are taken to a scene that took place 4 months earlier

A cop car pulls up to the main building that says BLACKMOOR DETENTION CENTRE the cops get out the car and escort Susan and Kathy to the main building once in reception, Cynthia Leach is waiting for them, Susan is looking absolutely petrified, Kathy is standing next to her seemingly unfazed, Cynthia signs the transfer papers, the cops leave reception, Cynthia looks at Susan

Cynthia: Right you on the white line." Susan is not responding to Cynthia and just looks straight ahead

Cynthia: "I SAID, GET ON THE WHITE LINE NOW, don't make me come and drag you there."

Kath softly to Susan: "You best go get it over with, you don't wanna mess with her trust me." Susan goes over to the white line looking even more terrified, once Susan is there

Cynthia with sarcasm and contempt: "Well, well, just goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover does'nt it, your name is Susan Short you have been charged with aiding and abetting in an armed robbery by driving the getaway car, you have been sentenced to 2 years in a maximum security prison, is that correct."

Susan does'nt answer, Cynthia: "When I ask you something, I expect the answer of "Yes Miss Leach" I suggest you answer me very quickly Short or you'll find yourself in solitary in the next few seconds and facing a charge of dumb insolence.".."DO YOU HEAR ME SHORT." Susan is trembling but still says nothing, Cynthia makes a move as if she is going to slap Susan with the back of her hand

Kathy: "Why don't you leave her alone, can't you see she's scared and in shock, what's your problem are you blind or stupid or both."

Cynthia immediately leaves Susan and quickly comes over to Kathy: "I see we have another tough cookie here, I'm so looking forward to cutting you down to size and taking you down a peg or 2, by the way you will go to solitary as soon as you're admitted."

Kathy: "No problem, Ill go anywhere you want so long as you don't hassle her anymore, as far as I know hassling us when we get here is'nt supposed to be one of the perks of your job."

At that moment Janet O'Connell comes into reception:"Is there a problem Miss Leach"

Cynthia: "Yes, this one here (indicates Kathy) is extremely insolent and insubordinate and has earned herself a 24 hour stint in solitary as soon as she admitted."

Janet to Kathy: "Your insolence and insubordination will not be tolerated here, you'll soon learn to do as you've been told, you'll find yourself in solitary quite frequently if you persist in your present attitude, do I make myself clear."

Kathy cockily: "That's fine with me, at least now that you're here maybe i'll get to the pound a lot sooner."

Susan is then admitted and taken to the shower, Janet takes Kathy to the pound after she is admitted

Later in the pound Kathy is lying on the bed asleep Sassy is with her, suddenly Sassy starts growling and hissing loud enough to wake Kathy, Sassy then leaves the cell

Kathy: "What the bloody hell!!!." she hears the cell door unlocking, Cynthia appears inside the cell

Cynthia: "Get up Bates"

Kathy pinches herself: "Oh heck, its not a bloody dream after all, its real," to Cynthia" what do you want now, don't you know it's extremely rude to give someone such a rude awakening when they're trying to sleep."

Cynthia: "I SAID GET UP."

Kathy: "It just so happens I don't feel like getting up just yet, so why don't you be a nice screw and go away and leave me in peace so I can get some shut eye."

Cynthia enraged goes over to the bed and is about to drag Kathy out of it when Kathy jumps up out of the bed

Kathy: "Ok, Ok if you insist, mind you Its gonna take some time to get comfortable again, now I'll say it for the second time, what do you want."

Cynthia sneering and looking menacing: "I'm looking forward to teaching you some manners Bates, I promise you you'll leave this cell with a real change in your attitude, I'll beat the arrogant streak out of you."

Kathy totally unfazed: "Y'know screw, you're not the first screw that's ever said that to me or tried it, tell you what though it won't be nearly as easy to get me as you may think, why don't you do what others before you have tried and failed, give it your best shot, go on then, but don't say I did'nt warn you."

Cynthia can't control her anger anymore and tries to lay into Kathy, but Kathy being a martial arts expert has Cynthia lying on the floor as soon as Cynthia starts to move her fist, Cynthia gets up and tries to take another swing at Kathy, but Kathy has delivered 2 swift blows to Cynthia's kidney's in quick succession with lightning speed and Cynthia is lying on the floor wincing in pain

Kathy gets on top of Cynthia and has her neck in a choke hold: "Y'know something screw, I could snap your neck right now if I wanted to but I won't, tell you what though you will never, ever come into my cell and try something like that with me ever again ,and if I hear you've been hassling that girl that came in with me, I'll finish what I started here, you leave me alone you'll be alright , Ill be a model prisoner and do anything you say as long as it ain't crooked or nothin , I won't even tell the others I got the better of you here and now, now why don't you get yourself together and get the hell out of here now before I change my mind."

Cynthia gets out the cell very quickly , ever since that day she has tried to steer clear of Kath and her friends

Reb: "I can imagine the look on the ugly bitch's face it must have been priceless."

Kathy: "Yeah it sure was, at least we don't have to see her ugly mug in the middle of the night, she's too scared to come in here."

Reb: "She could still come into my cell though, she said she could get me anyplace, anytime."

Kathy: "I guess you'll just have to keep sweet with Noeline for the time being at night, I think in the meantime we better think of some plan to get the leach off your case."

Reb: "But why would you even want to do help me, why would you even care what happens to me."

Kathy: "Let's just say, I see a lot of myself in you and our situation might not be as different as you think."

Reb about to say something just then Margo and Noeline come into the cell

Margo: "G'day Reb, I see you're out the pound, we need to talk."

Reb: "Oh yeah what about.?" sees Margo and Noeline's face,"Yeah,ok don't tell me now," to Noeline "tell me just now when we get locked up for the night ok"

Dot: "Now what's this big mystery."

Kathy: " Trust me you don't wanna know Dotty."

Just then a screw appears at the door, everyone seems relieved it's only Beverley

Beverley: "Right everyone back to their own cells, please."

Reb to Kathy, Dot, Susan: "G'night see you all in the morning at the showers."

Kathy, Dot, Susan: "Yeah night, see you tomorrow, night Margo, Noeline."

Reb, Margo and Noeline leave the cell, just then as Noeline and Reb are passing Marie Winter's cell

Marie: "Hey Kean, they let you out again I see, don't you miss being where you belong."

Reb: "Why don't you keep your ugly foghorn trap shut Winter, at least in the pound I don't have to look at your ugly mug or listen to your bull."

Beverley: "Get moving to your cell now, Kean and Burke, as for you Winter, if you want to spend time in solitary, just continue with your antagonistic remarks and you'll find yourself there soon enough."

Reb and Noeline move to their cell once inside after Beverley has locked them in for the night

Noeline: "Geez I never saw Winter shut up so fast before, I did'nt think Carter had it in her to chuck someone in the pound."

Reb: "Never mind that now, why the hell did you and Margo come charging into Kath's cell like that, now Kath's probably having to think of some excuse to keep Dot sweet?"

Noeline: "Ok ,ok keep your shirt on, jeez, the problem is we didn't get the pick up."

Reb: "What do you mean you did'nt get the  pick up, I thought we had the whole bloody thing arranged and you were gonna get Margo to pick it up, how did the pair you manage to stuff it up this time."

Noeline: "Hey, dont go blaming it all on me and Margo, after all you're the one who got chucked in the pound yesterday."

Reb: "Yeah, Yeah ok you're right I suppose, but why couldnt you pick it up was a screw watching you all the time."

Noeline: "Yeah, but not just that Marie and her heavies were watching too, so me and Margo made a plan to go find an excuse to go get the stuff today, when Margo went to get it , the packets were ripped open and all the bloody stuff was blown all over the place, luckily it was only grass in the parcel, I decided to leave the coke till the next pick up, just as well, might have been that storm last night and the wind was blowing like crazy."

Reb realises what happened but only says: "Oh bugger it." (What happened was that Butch and Rufus discovered the parcel whilst they were protecting Reb's cell and started to rip the contents of the parcel open and scattered the remains all over the place) "Looks like we'll have to find another place to drop off the stuff next time, say Noeline, how do you fancy having Winter and her mates spend some time in the pound."

Noeline: "Yeah sure be good to see the bitch spend time in there, after all I sure as hell spent time in the pound for her at Barnhurst, one of her crooked schemes went bad and I was the patsy that took the fall."

Reb with a grin"Yeah, I know just how to do it too, but I'm gonna need a bit of help from you and Margo, I think Winter has tread on all our toes long enough, what do you reckon?"

Noeline: "We'll tell Margo in the morning."

Reb: "I'll tell Kath about the plan too, but I don't want Dot finding out about it or nosing around, so leave it up to me."

Noeline: "Yeah, sure, no worries, are you sure you can trust Kath though."

Reb: " Yeah, I know so, anyway Im tired , I'm only glad the leach is'nt here tonight, at least we can sleep in peace."

Noeline: "Yeah night then."

The next morning Terry comes to unlock the cells, Reb and Noeline go to the showers, Kath and Dot are already there in the showers

Susan: "G'day Reb, you sleep ok last night."

Reb: "Yeah fine thanks, how about you."

Susan: "Oh like a log, thanks."

Reb sees Kath and Dot: "Hi Kath, Dot y'all sleep ok."

Dot: "Yeah, fine thanks luv."

Kath: "The beds lumpy as hell, but at least it's more comfortable than the pound but."

Dot: "At least Ed know how to cook a decent breakfast, no lumpy porridge to go with a lumpy bed."

They all laugh at that including Reb and Noeline

Just then Marie, Janie and Jenny appear with a couple of other heavies, they go to the front of the queue

Marie: I think I'll go for a shower now, she shoves Susan out the way, who is in front of the queue just then

Reb: "Where do you think you're going Winter, Susan was in front of you, now why don't you and your ugly friends go to the back of the queue where you belong"

Marie: "Listen Kean, you're getting too big for your boots lately, its time you learned that I am topdog here and the topdog gets what she wants whenever she wants."

Reb: "Top dog you, don't make me laugh, top doublecrossing bitch more like," Reb looks around, anyone fancy giving me a hand getting Winter and her friends to the back of the queue where she belongs, Noeline and Reb make a move to Marie, Kath has just finished showering and moves with Reb and Noeline towards Marie, Janie, Jenny, they make no attempt to move to the back of the queue.

Kathy: "The shower's free now Suze." just then Janie takes a swing at Kathy who with lightning reflexes grabs her arm in midair and picks her up by the coller holding her in midair."Don't mess with me Turner, or Ill splatter you against the wall, at the same time Marie also took a swing at Reb who deliveres a hard punch to Marie's gut, Marie is temporarily winded and holding onto her side."

Janet appears at the doorway: "Just what the hell is going on here, why are there 3 free shower stalls and no one using them."

Reb: " Sorry about that Mrs O' Connell, Winter, Turner and Tyler came to have a chat, but they're finished now, you better get back to your place in the queue now don't you think, Winter." Marie goes to the back whispering to Reb, you'll really pay for that Kean, I can promise you that." Janet does'nt hear the exchange

Janet: "Start using the showers if you don't want to find yourselves on malingering charges, Short, Kean, Burke move it now, I don't have all day." Reb, Susan and Noeline move to the showers."

Later at Breakfast Kath, Susan and Reb are sitting at a table together quite a distance from the others, Marie, Janie, Jenny are a table together, Margo and Noeline are sitting together, Dot and an extra are on serving duty.

Reb: "How do you all feel about Winter and her mates spending some time in the pound for a few days and trying to nail that bitch leach at the same time

Kath: "Yeah,I agree with you Reb, Winter is long overdue for a stint in the hole, she's really been getting up my nose lately, but getting the leach may not be as easy as you think, the woman is clever, the best thing you can do to her is to get some sort of stalemate to try keep her off your back."

Susan: "Can't say I'd be too sad to not have to see Marie, Janie or Jenny for a couple of days myself."

Reb: "Might be easier to get the bitch with Winter in the pound but."

Kath: " What do you have in mind to get Winter and her mates thrown in the pound, but before you tell me about your plan I think you better tell me what Margo and Noeline came barging in our cell for last night, I think I already know, you're trying to take over Winter's little operation in here aren't you, I had one hell of a job trying to explain the whole thing to Dot last night when you all left our cell last night, Suze and I like a taste of grass now and again and we get it from Winter now and again, but we have to be careful if we use them because Dot hates any kind of drugs being pushed in the prison, she won't lag or nothing but she sure gives us what for and a long lecture about the dangers of drugs if she catches us using."

Reb: "What did you tell Dot last night."

Kathy: "I made up a story about you, Margo and Noeline planning to get Winter as you all owed her for the old days at the other jails."

Reb: "Yeah, it'll happen I can tell you I really owe that bitch she near tried to kill me a couple of times, you want to hear my plan?."

Kathy: "Yeah, why not perhaps you might need extra hands after all, especially if you wanna get all of them."

 Susan: "Yeah tell us your plan, Reb"

Reb: "What I wanna do is gonna get Winter and her cronies thrown in the pound so it gives me a chance to take over her rackets with her own stuff."

Kath: "Sounds ok but how are you gonna manage to do that."

Reb begins to outline her plan, the camera focuses on Marie, Janie, Jenny and a couple of others at the table

Marie: "The thing is to try get Kean on her own somewhere, she's gonna pay big time my gut's still aching."

Janie: "Yeah corner her somewhere when the leach is on duty and no-one else is around and really give her a bashing."

Jenny: "Just make sure Batesy is'nt around at the time, the last time she layed into me I could feel the pain for days afterwards."

Back to Reb, Kathy and Susan

Reb: "Say Kathy I saw for my self at how good you are at defending Winter and all, why have'nt you ever taken over topdog from her I'm sure you could."

Kathy with mock disgust:"What!!!, and have to look at the leach's ugly face and listen to her bull anymore than I already have to now and put up with a whole lotta moaning sheila's saying, What do I do now Kathy, someone wrecked my cell Kathy, someone pinched the porcelian statue me mum gave me for my birthday, Kathy, No thanks mate, Ill Pass thanks very much."

Reb and Susan laugh, just then the bell goes its time, all get up from the breakfast table it's time for muster

Later a note is passed under the door to the governors office

In the kitchen, all are preparing lunch, Reb is at the stove stirring the pots, Sassy has just come into the kitchen, Kathy comes back into the kitchen and comes over to Reb

Kathy: "Everythings cool, now we just get to wait for the hammer to come fall down." Reb gives one of her classic smiles when things are going according to her plan

Harold has just entered the governor's office he sees the note that was pushed under the door earlier, he reads it and reaches for the phone on his desk.

Harold: "Janet, could you please come to my office at once." he then puts the phone down and starts pacing up and down, there is a knock on the door

Harold: "Come in."

Janet: "You wanted to see me Governor."

Harold: "We need to do a search of the prison immediately, have a look at this note."

Janet looks at the note which says."There's more dope in this prison than you ever dreamed possible and guess what it's right under your very noses, ha, ha ,ha."

Janet: "That's not amusing at all, Ill organise a cell search at once."

Harold: "Get Miss Leach to do it with you, whatever she may be if there's dope on the premises she'll find it, I want the perpetrators caught and put in solitary for 48 hours, they'll also be facing charges from the visiting justice, also I want it made clear that all visitors are to be thorougly searched when they come in here."

Janet: "Right Governor, I will see to it straight away." Janet then leaves the office

Cynthia appears in the kitchen :"Get outside Kean, Bates and Short, your cells are going to be searched."

Kathy: "Yeah is that right, what for."

Cynthia goes up to Kathy: "Don't get smart with me Bates or you'll end up in solitary, I can promise you and when you address me you will say: "Yes Miss Leach, No Miss Leach."

Kathy with smugness: "Yes Miss Leach, just going Miss Leach." she then goes out the kitchen Edwina is trying to hide a smile

Cynthia: "Get out Kean, do you have a problem with obeying orders, do you want to find out what happens when you don't obey orders."

Reb quickly moves out the kitchen, Susan goes out as well

Outside the cells, Noeline, Margo, Marie, Janie, Jenny and a couple of others

Kathy loudly: "Geez I hope you don't have anything valuable in your cell,  as It wont be valuable no more once she's through."

Cynthia to Kathy: "Shut up." to Reb and Noeline"You're about to find out exactly how a cell search is to be conducted in this prison." she then goes into Noeline and Rebs dorm and starts throwing all the stuff all over the cell, she throws the coffee, sugar on the floor she strips the bed and turns the mattress she takes the pillow cases off the pillows and chucks the bedding across the cell and the powder is opened and thrown across the cell, Reb and Noeline look on in absolute horror , Cynthia seems to be in a frenzy

 Susan softly to Noeline and Reb: "Whatever you do, don't say nothing as she'll chuck you in the pound for sure."

Reb: "Ill get the bloody bitch one day I swear it even if it kills me."

Cynthia has finished the cell search, the scene is almost worse than when Marie Winter had that riot at Wentworth 5 months ago she comes out the cell:"Right get in there and clean up the mess your cell's  a pig sty."

Noeline: "Yeah well we didn't  make it a pigsty did we so why should we clean it, you threw my powder all over the bloody place."

Cynthia to Reb: "Get inside Kean and start cleaning your pigpen now, Reb goes in she mouths "You ugly bitch screw." starts slowly picking things up, Cynthia to Noeline: "Tell me something Burke would you like to find out what its like to spend 48 hours in solitary confinement for insubordination."

Noeline: "What the bloody pound, no way."

Reb turns and gives one of her classic smiles and carries on cleaning

 Cynthia: "It seems as if you lack common courtesy Burke, no problem we'll soon fix that, on second thoughts having you in solitary would just about suit you would'nt it, I have a much more fitting punishment in mind for you, you will not only help Kean clean your own cell but you will be put on extra cleaning duties for the next week am I making myself clear to you Burke, you better give me the answer I'm expecting to hear from you or you'll be on extra cleaning duties indefinately, am I making myself understood."

Noeline: "Yes Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Good, now get out of my sight, and report to me for cleaning duties after lunch." Noeline goes into the cell, Cynthia leaves and goes in Kathy, Susan and Dot's cell, needless to say she doesn't leave it in as bad a state as she left Reb and Noeline's cell

In Reb and Noeline's dorm

Noeline: "That bloody bitch, look what she did to my powder and she broke me jar."

Reb: "Yeah, Ive got big plans for the bitch screw, big plans I'm just waiting for the right moment then ..." Reb takes the empty  coffee container and chucks it against the wall with full force

Noeline: "Hey watch it, you don't want to take my head off."

Reb: "Yeah well, sorry about that, I must have seen her ugly mug at that point in time, one day she'll get...."

Just then Marie Winter is screaming: "You bitch, take your hands off me, it was planted there by someone."

Janet: "Yes I've heard it all before Winter, you're well known for that type of thing, you'll spend 48 hours in solitary confinement and you'll be facing the visiting justice the moment you get out, now move it."

Just then Cynthia comes out :"I found more in Turner and Tylers cell, to Janie and Jenny, "Right you know the way move it now, you'll be in solitary 24 hours and face the visiting justice with Winter, move NOW or you'll spend 48 hours." they all move along the corridor

Noeline: "Almost worth cleaning up the mess in not having to see Winter and her flea circus's ugly mugs for a couple of days or listen to their bull."

 Reb turns , gives one of her classic smiles carries on cleaning just says:"Yeah it sure is, what'll be better though is to get that ugly bitch screw Leach."

Later Reb is lying on the bed, Susan and Dot are in the recroom, Kathy has just come into Reb's cell

Kathy: "So the plan worked like a dream, you got any plans to take over top dog, if you do you'll have to work the press."

Reb:"Nah can't be bothered, it's like you said, who wants to look at leach's ugly mug anymore than you have to."

Kathy: "Yeah, know what you mean, just imagaine having to put up with Winter and Turner snapping at your heels all the time like a bunch of pesky poodles, I said to myself when I came in here and landed in the pound, I don't care who's running the place as long as it's not me and they don't give me any grief, they leave me and me mates alone and they'll be ok, mess with me and me mates they be flat on their back in one second flat."

Reb: "So what did you do to land up in this hellhole."

Kath: "Its a long story, you sure you wanna hear it."

Reb: "Yeah why not at least while we have peace and quiet."

Kath tells Reb her story

A man (app 35), woman (app 30) and a younger looking Kathy (age 8) and a young boy (Kathy's brother) David (age 9) are driving along the road and singing (row row row your boat) when

Dad: "So did you all have a good time at the fair today."

Kathy: "Yeah, dad it was ace, can we go again next week."

David: "Please Dad, say yes, please take us again."

Dad: "What do you think, Mum."

Mum: "That sounds good to me too, lets do it again"

Later on in the evening, they're all watching telly at about 21h00 Dad realises he forgot sdomething

Dad: "Oh darn it, I forgot to get some cigarettes when we went shopping earlier today, I'm just gonna nip over to the store to get some, anyone want something while I'm gone."

Kathy: "Can I come with you Daddy, please."

Dad: "No love, you've gotta get to bed soon, tell you what though I'll get you a double decker your favourite."

David: "Can you get me a double decker too please Dad."

Dad: "2 double deckers coming right up, now come give your old Dad a kiss and hug before he goes out." Kathy and David go to their dad and hug and kiss him, "Kathy, I love you Daddy."

Dad: "I love you too sweetheart , I love you all."

Mom laughing: "You better get going Charlie, or the shops will be closed when you get there, and Ill have to put up with a grumpy old man without any fags."

Charlie: "Mom's right I better go now," he goes to his wife gives her a big hug and kiss, "See you later Jen," he goes out saying "Love you all to bits."

Jennifer: "Bye love see you soon," Kathy and David, we love you Daddy." Charlie then goes out the front door gets into the car and drives off

3 hours later

Jennifer is pacing up and down looking extremely worried, Charlie has still not come home yet

There is a knock at the door, she runs to answer it , 2 police officers are standing outside

The older of the police officers say: "Im Detective Sargeant Reeves, are you Mrs Bates."

Jennifer frantic: "Yes I am , is something wrong, where's Charlie has something bad happened to him."

Dt Srg Reeves: "Can we please come in  Mrs Bates, I'm afraid I have some bad news for you."

Jennifer lets then in, "Where's Charlie, was there an accident, is he in hospital."

Dt Srg Reeves: "Mrs Bates I don't know how to tell you this, but your husband is dead, he was killed instantly in a car accident, a truck lost control and rammed straight into you husband's car, the truck driver was also killed instantly as well in the accident."

Jennifer: "Are you sure it was Charlie,"

St Srg Reeves: "Mrs Bates I'm positive its Mr Bates as his driver's licence was still in the glove compartment, I'm so sorry for you loss."

Jennifer: NO NO NO, Charlie she then bursts into tears and starts sobbing her heart out."

14 years earlier, 1 year has passed from Charlie Bates's death

We are inside the Bates home one Saturday morning, only the scene has changed dramatically, Jennifer is now unkempt looking and it looks as if she has been drinking, Kathy comes into the kitchen

Kathy: "Mum, I'm just going to go to my karate class, Ill see you when I get back, you want me to get you something."

Jennifer: "No thanks love, I'll be fine, see you."

Kathy: "Mum are you sure you're all right."

Jennifer: "Don't worry about me love, just sometimes I miss Dad so much, you go along to your karate class now, Ill be alright see you later."

Kathy giving her a kiss, "Bye mum see you later love you."

Jennifer: "I love you too." once Kathy leaves the kitchen, Jennifer goes upstairs and opens a bottle she downs many pills with the glass of vodka and mutters." I love you so much but I cant take the pain of losing your father, I only hope someday you'll forgive me."

David comes inside the house: "Mum, I'm home." no answer, David looks puzzled but thinks Jennifer has perhaps just gone out he goes into the lounge and puts the telly on.

Two hours later Kathy comes home, sees David watching telly and says"Hi Dave how did the footy match at school go today."

David: "Great sis, we won 15/10."

Kathy: "Did you tell mum."

David:"I wanted to only she's not home, she must have gone out to the shop."

Kathy: "I dunno about that, she seemed a bit funny when I went to my karate lesson, did you check upstairs."

David: "No because she usually answers even if she's there, but she didnt answer this time so I thought she's gone out."

Kathy: "Maybe youre right Dave, I'm just gonna go to my room to get changed, Kathy goes upstairs the door to her mothers bedroom is open, Kathy sees Jennifer lying on the bed, a bottle of pills lying next to her, Kathy goes into the bedroom and walks in

Kathy: "Mum, you're home." no answer, "Mummy please wake up," she shakes Jennifer who feels very cold," Davie, Davie, I need you to come quick, mummy's not waking up." David comes running up the stairs and is inside the bedroom

Kathy: "What's wrong with mummy, I can't get her to wake up."

David goes over to Jennifer he touches her: "Mum please wake up." to Kathy "We better call an ambulance, something's wrong, I cant get her to wake up." David calls an ambulance it arrives 10 minutes later

The paramedics rush up to the bedroom and feel Jennifers pulse one of them turns to Kathy and David: "I'm so sorry kids, but your mother is dead, we got here too late."

Kathy and David throw themselves at Jennifer, "No, No please don't be dead Mummy we need you, we love you." they then start crying in each other arms.........

Back to the present day

Reb: "Im so sorry about that Kathy, I can see that your folks really cared about you, it must have been really horrible to lose them like that so soon after one another."

Kathy: "Yeah, the loss over mum and dad was so great it took years to get over it ,even now I still I keep thinking about it, what made it worse was what Davie and I had to go through once mum died, our lives really changed ,we went from 1 big happy family to a hell much worse than this stinking dump, Davie died of a drug overdose 2 years ago and I've been inside for 7 years now ever since I was 18."

Reb: "OMG, Kath, what happened to you and David."

Kathy: "I'll tell you some other time, perhaps tomorrow, sorry Reb I'm just feeling a bit emotional now, it's like it all happened yesterday."

Just then Susan and Dot come into the cell, Cynthia is behind them

Cynthia: "Get back to your own cell, Kean it's almost time for lockup."

Reb gets up: "Night Kath see you tomorrow, night Dot and Susan, you all sleep well."

Kath, Susan, Dot: "Yeah sleep well, Reb."

Cynthia: "When I say move it I expect you to move a lot quicker, Kean."

Reb: "Sorry Miss Leach, just going."

Cynthia locks the Kathy, Susan, Dots cell and comes into Reb and Noeline's cell

Cynthia with sarcasm: "I see you have both learned incredibly quickly how to keep a cell tidy which is both just as well for you because as far as I'm concerned youre both treading on dangerous ground with me, do you understand me." no answer, "I'm not hearing the answer I'm expecting to hear, Kean?"

Reb: "Yes Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Burke?"

Noeline: "Yes Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "See what a little friendly persuasion can do to improve your manner, Goodnight." she locks the cell

Noeline jumps of the bed her finger goes up and mimics, "Yes Miss Leach, No Miss Leach, up yours Miss Leach you rotton stinking ugly bitch."

Reb says nothing

Cynthia is sitting in the staffroom drinking her coffee , the scene changes to the house in the previous flashback only this is a few months before Cynthia discovers her mother dead

15 years earlier

Cynthia: "Bye Mum, Im going along to that fancy dress party now, how do you like my fancy dress."

Mrs Leach laughing: "Good Lord Cynthia, what are you trying to do, scare all the people away at the party."

Cynthia: "Come on mum, you know me, anything for a good laugh, I'd just like to see my mates faces when I turn up in this gear."

Mrs Leach: "I only hope you can get it off afterwards, imagine if you had to go back to work like that."

Cynthia: "Mum you worry too much, besides if I can't get it all off tonight, Ill just spend all day tomorrow."

Mrs Leach: "Whatever you say love, lets hope we don't have to buy you a mask to cover up this one, now you better go along before youre late."

Cynthia: "Yeah youre right, bye Mum." she goes and gives her mum a kiss then goes out the front door, her mother is killing herself laughing as Cynthia sometimes does the most outrageous and spontaneous things."

Back to the present Cynthia's face becomes hard as she sees the woman responsible for her mothers death, she gets up goes to the cupboard and heads in the direction of Reb and Noeline's cell

Inside Reb and Noeline's cell

Reb: "Noeline, you still awake."

Noeline: "I am now, what is it."

Reb: "I've got the feeling Leach is gonna come in her some time tonight, remember our plan."

Noeline bolts upright."Oh What!!" they hear the cell door unlocking, Cynthia comes in

Cynthia: "Get up Kean."

Reb: "What the hell do you want now, what do you think you're doing, coming in here in the middle of the night."

Cynthia: "For that answer Kean, you've just earned yourself the hiding of your life for which Burke here is going to take the blame for."

Noeline: "You ugly poisonous bitch screw, I'm not taking no rap for nothing, Im not copping a charge for something you did."

Cynthia turns to Noeline, just then Reb produces a knife grabs Cynthia in a neck hold and presses it against Cynthia's throat ,"You feel that screw, can you feel how sharp it is, I could slit your throat right now and not regret it." to Noeline, "Grab her" Noeline grabs Cynthia by the arms Reb still has the knife at Cynthia's throat, "Take the knife Noeline and hold it against her throat." Noeline does

Reb: "Now you bitch, you're gonna get a taste of your own medicine, you're gonna get what you came in here to give me." Reb starts puching Cynthia hard in the kidneys and kicking her, Cynthia fall to the ground both Noeline and Reb are on top of Cynthia, Reb bangs Cynthia head on the floor a couple of times, she also punches her on the head.

Noeline: Lets kill the bitch."

Reb: "Don't be bloody stupid Burke, I dont wanna cop a life sentence for her, besides I think Leach has learned her lesson now, haven't you Miss Leach."

Cynthia: "Yes, Yes."

Reb: "Ill let you up screw but Ill tell you something you won't ever come in here in the middle of the night like you just did or you won't be so lucky next time, got me bitch."

Cynthia: "Yes,"

Reb: "Good now get out and don't come back."

Cynthia gets up gets to the door turns and says: "I swear you'll pay for what you just did ,both of you but especially you Kean, I promise you." she then goes out the cell down the corridor clearly in a lot of pain

Noeline: "Yeah we got her good and proper, be a long time before she sets foot in here again, what's up Reb, you dont look to happy but."

Reb: "I think I made one of the biggest mistakes in my life by not killing the bitch when I had the chance."
